Old stanley book!
Ive just recently come across this old stanley book called "the best season ever- the story of accrington stanley in the 1954 - 55 season - ON, Stanley ON" and just wondered if anybody knew anything about it, it was published by the club its self and printed by cambridge press in clayton, It has lots of pics and tells the story of the season along with many adverts from the time, plus it has a few stanley related cartoons at the back. Just wanted to know if anybody has ever seen it before and if anybody has the story behind the book? or if anybody is intrested in having a look at it?

Re: Old stanley book!
Yes, it's a fascinating book, John. A little bit sad though, when you read about all the grandiose plans the club had for the future and just seven short years later Stanley were no more. A stark warning for those who think that gates don't matter. Got my copy for twenty quid on ebay, but perhaps you can get it cheaper - there must me a fair few copies still knocking around.

Re: Old stanley book!
If there are crowd pictures in the book you might see me in the Peel Park end singing On Stanley On, as a little lad of course!

Re: Old stanley book!
John,
Not only do I own a copy of the book, but I still recall to this day many of the matches. It was my first full season as a Stanley fan and for me it really was the "Best Season Ever". My favourite line-up: McQueen; Ashe, Harrower; Hunter, Ryden, Bodle; Devlin, Cocker, Stewart, Wright, Scott. Manager, Walter Galbraith. What a team! What a season! ON, STANLEY ON! Quote:
