Prendergast to Southport?

Little bit out of date actually, sorry, this was on the Southport site yesterday, taken from an interview with Liam Watson

In the past week I have made enquiries for Chris Brass (York City but currently on loan to Harrogate Town), Phil Bolland (Chester City), Andy Todd (Burton Albion), Rory Prendergast (Blackpool), Mark Roberts (Crewe) and Adriano Rigoglioso (Doncaster Rovers), all players with League or Conference experience. At the moment I am keeping my fingers crossed that one or maybe two of them will join us.

ah there's nothing like living in a dream world, eh Scouseport!

Re: Prendergast to Southport?

Maybe it is dreaming, but out of the list submitted we've managed to get two of them in on loan with a third possibly signing.

However, having heard what Rory is on, I don't think it is likely he will be coming to Haig Ave!

Re: Prendergast to Southport?

Can't see Rory moving to be honest, although with Colin Hendry's future in the balance at Blackpool you never know but it makes a change for someone to come on here and admit they would like him to play for their team and not slag him off.

Re: Prendergast to Southport?

Its also refreshing to think that would we want him back with Georgie Best playing so well

I'd say we would & stick him on the right!

How well have we coped without out Rory & Evil, fair play to all concerned at this magnificent "roofless" club

I think Rory and Evil are quality players but they were the best transfers we made in the summer IMHO

Rory had gone on loan for 2 months to Halifax Town

From Blackpool website:
"Seasiders winger Rory Prendergast today joined Conference promotion chasers Halifax Town. the former Accrington Stanley winger joined Blackpool in the summer for an undisclosed fee, but has failed to nail down a regular spot at Bloomfield Road. The deal will see Prendergast join the Sahymen until 31st December, however the Seasiders have inserted a 24 hour recall after the first 28 days of the loan period. Prendergast is expected to make his debut on Saturday when Halifax travel to Scarborough."

That means he'll play against us over Christmas. At least we know how to play him. Give him a good kick in the first 5 minutes and he'll be quiet as a mouse for the rest of the game. ;)

I dont think Liam Watson is being too ethical making public what salaries people at other clubs are on. He was quoted as saying Carl Ruffer was on £800 per week at Morecambe which is probably very accurate but not many people would want their salaries made public knowledge on a fans forum.

That's a lot of money! It's more than the average wage in League Two where annual salaries are around £35,000 according to the Deloitte Review of Football Finance.

mellowyellow 24-11-2005 15:06

Re: Prendergast to Southport?

It is a lot of money, but he won't be the first or the last footballer to be paid too much at conference level. He is probably the highest paid footballer by minutes on the field for a club though!

As for whether it was ethical to reveal his wages, those figures have been in the public domain for a while, courtesy of Mr Ruffer himself. I think Liam was trying to point out why we hadn't been able to secure certain players' signatures. We don't pay anywhere near those figures. We could get three players for that!

True!

I recollect seeing him play against us for Bradford at IES, & thought he was a 'pain' IE wonderful.... I said as much on a later thread, after we had signed him!!

Different perspective, different opinions!
Now he's left us, he's crap!

(Sorry Lindsay, if you're still here!!)

Just spoke to a couple of Town fans who simply cannot believe their luck.
They genuinely seem to believe that the much-hated (sorry, make that much-loved) Rory can put them on top of the Conference by the year end. And I'm worried that they might be right . . .

Absolutely!!

How many times did we cry 'foul' as he threw himself to the ground, yet, if he had been on the opposing side, we would have been chanting......

'CHEAT' !!!!!!!

Don't think you need to worry, Henry, I get the feeling that said Rory may have just 'shot his bolt' as it were!

(Where's Lindsay to defend him when he needs her most??)

Don't get me wrong, I used to think he was superb until the last couple of months, when it obviously went wrong for him.

ooo could we be seeing Roberts vs Prendergast as the two wingers assists try to move their teams to the top of the Conf' in these trying months?

I think that is a complete load of balls, yes I agree Roberts is better, but only because of consistency. On his day, Rory is an absolute storming winger, unfortunately he has too many off days. His stats from his days in the conference tell the whole story, he had the most crosses in the league I think, and quite a few assists too. He was a bad diver, which used to shame me, tbh. When people used to refer to the club as 'Cheats', when it was only Rory was very saddening.

Re: Prendergast to Southport?

Well they lost yesterday, it was all going so well till he arrived, eh ? 2-0 loss, and he played the full 90:

Halifax: Legzdins, Haslam, Quinn, Ingram (Atherton 7), Wright, Forrest, Thompson, Foster, Prendergast, Grant, Killeen (Senior 68).
Subs Not Used: Young, Mansaram, Bowler

No fear now, if scarborough can keep him quiet ......

Re: Prendergast to Southport?

agree with you frank, on his day rory is a terrific player but we didn't see enough of those days..I also think until he cuts his play acting part of his game he will always be remebered by football fans as a "cheat". I just hope gary roberts doesn't believe the hype and his performances do not falter as i think Rory's did :o

Tin Monkey 27-11-2005 10:28

Re: Prendergast to Southport?

Rory went downhill once Gordon Armstrong had told him he was good enough to play in the Football League. From that point on he was 'too big' for the Conference.

The fact that Blackpool were struggling to get a midfield together for yesterday's game and they still sent Prendergast out on loan, tells me that his days at Blackpool are numbered.

I'm not saying anything that I haven't said before, so nobody can accuse me of hypocrisy. The point is, Prendergast was a decent player on his day (an excellent crosser, etc), but he has an awful attitude and it wouldn't surprise me if he thinks himself too big for Halifax right now. Having said that, I think he'll sign for them in January, if they still want him.

Willie Miller 27-11-2005 16:39

Re: Prendergast to Southport?

spot on Mr Copper Ape....;)

Rory's head was his biggest weakness & our team spirit & morale was never right with him at the club. Once he realised "bigger" clubs were in for him, we did right getting rid

Team spirit seems as high as Unibond One days (when you could hear the changing room from the top o'coppice after a win) & that is a credit to the management team. You don't always need the best players to have the best "team" & again I credit John, Jimmy & Cookie

Only thing that Rory could teach Gary is that final telling cross as Gary's a faster player, better at beating people & shooting. Rory's final ball was his greatest asset. Gary will develop that with time .......

On Stanley On!
