Alty Game / Ian Craney

Should be a good following from Alty this Saturday and a healthy gate overall. Stanley are flying but expect Alty not to roll over for you. Alty have Grays away the following match so perhaps we could do your lot a favour.

I see Ian Craney is banging in the goals for you. Bearing in mind Alty have a sell-on clause, do people generally think he will stay and help you trying to get promoted. Or will a big fish come in and pounce. Any thoughts?

we thought FGR and maybe even Southport might put up a strong fight against us but that didnt happen so were not too bothered about Alty this weekend; no disrespect intended...in response to Ian Craney...

i doubt the sell-on clause is big enough to bag you 'fabulous money'
we have a very-err, 'financially safe' chairman you know (trying so hard not to use the words 'tight-arse' lol)

Its well known that Alty have a 50% sell on clause on Craney, so if he goes for 100k we get 50k, I'd call that fabulous money. That was part of the reason you turned down a £50,000 offer from Rotherham for him.

I dont think even non league super club accrington stanley would fill a 28,500 capacity stadium for a feeder league playoff final some how.Plus its customery to go for a drink at half time.

Re: Alty Game / Ian Craney

I dont reckon he will go in january as i think he is really enjoying it at stanley and i think he will at least do us the honour of playing for us to at least the end of the season....but unlike rory he needs to remember NO player is bigger than the club!

Also think stanley will wait for a very good offer...but like coley has always said he will never stand in any players career!

all i know is that they have got a large sell on fee on him but dont know if 50% is right?

Why so preoccupied with money? Who cares? He's an Accy player & if both clubs make cash from the deal if he goes then who cares apart from our Accountant!!!!

He's enjoying his time at Accy, we are treating him well & he is playing fantastic!

Don't think he will go in January but he probably will go eventually if we don't go up but come close

Welcome to the board Alty fans, have a good trip Saturday but hope you get a good royal shoe-ing!

Also, how come you know so much about our club, Rob's the Chief Executive lads so he'll know if you are telling porkies:p

& while we are posting pics of your biggest game in years, if you can beat the amount of colour we got on our terrace......

Re: Alty Game / Ian Craney

we need big money for Craney. Driving force in our midfield, 7 goals so far, now an England regular who has the benefit of 'captained England' on his CV.

Especially with the sell on clause involved, then £200k would be close to the mark. I would expect Eric to give him away for next to nowt though with a 75% sell on clause attached. Maybe we could swap for a roof, did Rotherham have a nice roof anybody?

It didn't take long for the wasters from Alty to get a thread started about how they loved Craney so much, well guess what, he doesn't play for you anymore and if we sell him and you get a bit of money out of it then it will help you get out of the conference north next year.

Why the angry post? I'd sooner be a waster from affluent Altrincham than a self grief wallowing plastic scouser. There was no need for you to take that sort of stance, no wonder no one likes you.

Growing Up?

I asked a very straight question at the start of this thread about Saturdays game and Ian Craney and all you get is drivel such as :

Ian Craney is a red is a red
Ian Craney is a red
He Hates Alty

Or

wasters from Alty etc etc

Can I ask why?

It's called a sense of humour mate - and I can't see Ian singing his heart out on that photo, just having a brew and a natter as far as I can see :)

Re: Alty Game / Ian Craney

Well, to answer your question, no, I don't think he will go before the end of the season, especially considering that Coley has already knocked back Crewe and Rotheram enquires

There's been all different kinds of responses, its our forum, we can say what we like pleasant or unpleasant! You'll find we will have forgotten about Alty as soon as the 3 points are bagged & the goals for tally has been improved

Sell on clause

At a recent Altrincham fans' forum, the manager Graham Heathcote explained that there is indeed a 50% sell on clause written into the Ian Craney transfer deal. He knows because he wrote it in. Eric Whalley turned down the Rotherham money because "half it it would go to Altrincham".

Ian is a classic example of how the influx of foreign players is restricting the development of homegrown talent. I'm sure fifteen years ago he would have been on the books of a top flight team by now.

A couple of our more quick-witted correspondents have picked up on this one (thanks for the laugh, lads) , but you make a very significant point.

I share your concern, Resting Collier, that our own backyard is being neglected. I believe that it's all to do with the dying art of scouting.

My old friend Eric Harrison has spent half a lifetime getting up early and watching hundreds of juvenile geniuses (according to their dads !) and using his diplomacy to reject 99.8 percent of them whilst finding that one absolute diamond . . . and Eric's found several of these gems for Man U in his many years of devotion to the art of football.
Where are the new Erics ? Too much like hard work , isn't it ? Much easier to take on hundreds of new players for peanuts and toss most of them aside.
Cynical, moi ?
