conference play-offs

Not that Stanley are going to be in them! But does anybody know the dates of the semi-final and final play-off matches?

PS, What if its Morecambe v Halifax in the final? Who would you cheer for?

But it wont be
Hereford vs Exeter final, what a game that would be !!

Re: conference play-offs

If I had to choose anybody to go up with us, it would be Morecambe anyway, just love the matches against them. Admit it, you'd miss playing them. Failing that, Grays fans are just a great set of people, wouldn't mind them going up either.

Its Got To Be Grays To Win The Play Off Final, Then I Get To See The Red Men For An Extra Game And Just As Important Ill See All The Freindly Ultra Faces

doubt the 'fax would be able to go up anyway; with repect to their ground.
I'd love Morecambe to go up through the playoffs, the matches are brilliant.
The again, don't care about any other team apart from the ones they call Stanley!

Re: conference play-offs

Am I alone in finding all this celebration just a tad premature ?

I'm hoping, I'm praying . . . I'm begging for this wonderful Accrington Stanley team to continue performing with such consistency, skill and enthusiasm. I truly believe that League Football will happen, and I've said so since November, but please let's not start talking about who (other than Stanley) will participate in the play-offs.
It's just too presumptuous before we've even left January behind us.

Belief coupled with talent will invariably result in success . . . complacency coupled with assumptions will invariably result in failure.

8 wins from 16, HM...........just 8 wins...........

Re: conference play-offs

poppycock - for too long Stanley fans have suffered from pessimism. Under the John Coleman reign we have banished such failings. This Stanley is the real deal, this is our moment. Last night was a watershed breached. Yes we can still fail, but we won't . Not only do we have to capitulate, but another team has to take on the mantle as outstanding challenger. And none of them are fit to wear that crown. We will have to lose four games more than whoever is challenging us to be at worst 1 point behind with a game in hand. Whilst Grays, Exeter, Morecambe, Halifax, Hereford and Stevenage are taking points off each other we will just ride out the storm, steal the points and keep marching away. Out of that lot we have faced Halifax and Exeter twice and have Morecambe, Grays and Stevenage at home.

For gods sake the Ultra's dont like singing John Colemans Red and white army just because we once lost whilst singing that song thus it must a bad omen. Start believing heathens because Judgement Day cometh.

Very true HM.

Hereford are still the danger club and have now extended their run to eight Conference games without losing. An eleven-point lead over them could easily be just eight if we lose at their ground in March and you can drop points pretty easily with a few draws instead of wins.

Re: conference play-offs

Pessimism ?

It isn't in my vocabulary.

Where did you get that from?

Belief, pride, passion, loyalty . . .that's what I share with thousands of Stanley fans worldwide.

But cocksureness of the ". . . all we have to do now . . ." sort is our worst enemy.

I don't think for one second that our players harbour any self-doubt. Neither do I imagine that they possess any smug arrogance.

Nor should we.

Just to echo WR - Hereford won 3-0 tonight to 3rd place just 11 points behind us but one game more played, Grays on the other hand lost at home to Burton Albion 3-2 and are now on the same number of games as Stanley but 13 points worse off. Yes the optimism is there, but as I have stated, when it is a mathematical certainty that we are promoted then I will celebrate, but i do believe this COULD be our year

Whalley Red 31-01-2006 22:43

Re: conference play-offs

Hereford have played the same number of games as us. Now that the Grays bubble has clearly burst - and it is evident that their fans think so as only 858 turned up tonight - I can only see Hereford as potential challengers. But at least they have a good record of finishing 2nd in this league ;)

Good luck to Stanley, seems resulys are going well everywhere at present :-)

Fingers crossed, Monday night's game could and should give the players the belief to go on and secure top spot now.

Nothing's a given in this game though, I'm still not convinced my side ( five levels below ) will gain promotion.

I dont think Grays will make the Play-offs.

Its going to be Morecambe v Exeter in final with Morecambe winning (hopefully)

Did I just read that right?

our ground is not good enough?!

Our ground is probably the best in the division (or at least top 5!).
But then yours isn't exactly Nou Camp is it! (with the shed and 2 uncovered small ends)

shakermaker 01-02-2006 14:35

Re: conference play-offs

it was a reference to the financial state of the ground...whether it would still be yours to play upon; not the aesthetic state of it.
our ground is very basic yes....but at least all 4 sides are accessible :)
a 75% complete ground cannot really be in the top 5 in the division, can it?
anyway it wasnt a snide comment at your ground or your club...get off yer high horse!

Re: conference play-offs

Look at it from an internet forum point of view........ if Grays and Exeter go up we only get decent supporters coming on here and making sensible comments........... if Morecombe go up we get a discussion on the merits of which town is best, who has the best fish/cockles, how they deserve it because they play in Red, everybody likes Blackpool better etc,etc and if we try and inject any humor we will be slagging off there worst disaster since the closing of Heysham Head. If Halifax go up we have the Yorkie's coming on and talking about how the Shay is the best ground/building site since Buck house was built and how they won the war of the Roses, the refs hate us because we were once BIG, our grounds bigger then yours, we have more supporters then you and other Yorkshire crap. So as a distance supporter and regular imputter on the forum I think if theres a football god he will allow either Grays or Exeter to go up.:)

and Exeter have an element of hooligan to their club as witnessed on this site and as personally witnessed outside the away end on monday night. So if this football god is reading this then it must be Grays. Congratulations Grays we have voted you forwards as Play-off victors.

Re: conference play-offs

Gotta be Halifax with us for me. I have friends over there and I love going to the shay. Another local game with very little agro fans wise attached would benefit us as a club I think.

After they're display on here and at the game exeter can get stuffed.

Grays would be an acceptable alternative though.
