What The Hell?!?!
Just as Barry gets great he leaves, and we replace him with a Burton reject?! I dont know what to make of it.
undisclosed fee? hope we got big money for him at least... http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
just read it and i am shocked!....Anthony Barry who lets the team play the way we do sold
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
I'm shocked too, I wouldn't have thought we'd have let anyone go at this stage.
But then again it's the age-old theory of one in-one out at this club which makes perfect economic sense I suppose |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Jeez - good luck Anthony and welcome Andy Todd. Hope you enjoy your stay and the IES and assist in our promotion. Got to say at least it wasn't Ian Craney or Gary Roberts, they would have been hard to replace if not impossible
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
good luck to the lad but ithink he will be hard to replace..he was the unsung hero and broke opposition play and found the ball to gary..it is hard to find a player to do that and he was getting great at the role...:o
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Just our luck ain't it? As soon as Barry puts in his greatest performances in a Stanley shirt he's shipped off!
I wonder if this makes way for Rocky as a makeshift midfielder? (remember Rotheram?) or maybe a surprise early return from the Proc? Todd is a defensive midfielder isn't he? looks like we are trying to cement our place at the top with good old fashioned tough defending. It's all happening so fast! |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Just discussing on coach how underated Ant Barry is :(
John Coleman said nobody was going and then :( just checking its not april 1st :( anyway good luck Antony Barry :):) |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Well Coley must believe Todd is better than Barry...and so far this season I trust his judgement 100%
Good luck Ant and let's get some songs thought up for Andy Todd!! |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
fair play to him securing the move to a yovil as at the start of the season even coley thought he wasent good enough to play ten games for stanley!, Maybe coley is building for the league and barry might not be able to stand up against the tough tackling of league 2, when was he contracted onto with us? maybe coley was making sure that he made some cash out of him?,
Rocky as a midfeilder sounds good as thats wat he was when he joined us, and perfect with tretton and welchy at the back! Still think we need some more cover in the middle though, especially now! |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Good luck to Barry, he's made a good move there. Hope this Todd is just as good, if not better

Re: What The Hell?!?!
Hi guys.
So we've got a good 'un in Barry have we? |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Just a though, Tretton looked fairly solid last night gainst Exeter when he came on - lets hope he is now injury free till the end of the season.
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
you gotta gem! :(
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
okay as many people know i'm not one of barry's biggests fans, but we do need what he gives to the team which is tough tackling and good first touch. I hope this undisclosed fee is a big one! Good luck to you son onward and upward!!!
One thing I can't understand is letting anthony go when we were already short in midfield, surely it would have made more sense to keep anthony and sign Todd. All the talk about adding another midfielder to bolster the sqaud only works when you keep the players you've got!!! Lets hope Toddy can settle quickly and be a good asset. |

Re: What The Hell?!?!
I don't think we are short for midfielders...we have Boco, Brown and Rocky ready for makeshift midfielders; and Jaggers should be back ready for action soon
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
According to burtons website todd is a striker!!! One can only hope they have it wrong!!!
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Obviously, no ideas about the size of the fee, but we don't pay big transfer fees traditionally.
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
just had a thought, Todd won't be eligible for the trophy will he, after playing for Burton? :(
maybe we'll see the Rocky thing happening sooner than we thought! I don't think the club could afford to bring another player in without shipping one out, adding another name to the wage bill without taking one off doesnt really make sense in our financial position of low gate revenue etc. |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Probably next to nowt, which is why it's 'undisclosed'. Why won't the club ever let the fans know whats being paid for players?
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Quote:
it is common to not reveal the actual fee; with many deals going on at once agents will want to know why we ain't paying more for this player or accepting less for another etc... |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Out of interest, how tall is Barry?
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
will probably be a selling on clause in the transfer thats why i always think we keep the fees private. to prevent a backlash from the selling of a player fro possible less than he is worth!
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
not very tall!
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Quote:
like a terrier though, running for the full 90. excellent work rate |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
not very tall but very strong..On your forum it says he breaks the play up and is not a playmaker but is good at both jobs which is why he is highly rated in these parts..
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
That's ok, we like midgets.
The 2 midfielders we've just sold to Hearts and Swansea, were both 5 foot 6!!! |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
He is smaller than 5ft 6in
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
While I am shocked and disappointed to see Barry go, Coleman has my support 100%. I've never said that before, but his track record is second to none and I trust him to do the best for the club.
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
i second the 100% judgement backing. Too many times I have said that Coley hasn't got a clue what he's doing, but every time I and many others have been proved wrong.
I do however, detest these undisclosed fee's. If Barry has gone 10k (ballpark figure only) then one is inclined to think what was the point, if he has gone for 30k (ballpark again) then you think good deal. I just hope that Coley has judged right once again, because now is not the time to gamble. |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
We all talk about how we can't believe we've let Barry go!!! Has anyone thought what it actually means to the lad and maybe we didn't want him to go but he wanted to.. It is a league one team for goodness sake.
For what it's worth (and I know it's not much) I never rated him that much. Thought he was just ok... alright before you all start jumping all over me I will be the first to admit I could have missed something and only time will tell without him. I just tend to remember him for giving the ball away too much to the opposition!! He had improved in recent games but if we were to lose any of our midfield I'm glad it was him. Finally, after saying all that I wish him the best of luck and hope he becomes a sensation in league 1 :D |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Gutted... His energy will be missed.....:(
everybody has said that if barry or craney got injured we would be in trouble. I hope this lad from Burton is a good player. |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
If he wasnt good, i doubt coley would have brought him in
He knows its crunch time, i doubt he will gamble |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
In respect of Coley’s decision. It's his job to get the best out of the lads and ensure that we maintain a credible team. I have to wonder why we would doubt his judgement when the club is 11 points ahead with a game in hand. It’s a possibility that it’s Anthony’s decision to move on. Whichever it is both players should have our support. Anthony Barry, because he is entitled to have a future, Mr Todd because he’s about to put on a Red Shirt and is entitled to have the opportunity to prove his credentials…….
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
How the hell do you think I feel?
Last night after coming back from the Grey Horse after seeing our inspired performance I sponsored Barry's away shirt!!! In my opinion he is POTENTIALLY the best player we have (had). I thought that when we eventually have to sell Craney we would have Barry to build on for the future. I feel sick . |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Andy Todd is definitely a striker and a tall one at that. Not exactly sure how he fits in the current team though. He's on the bench for all of Burton's game and surely he'll be the same here: cover for Mully, rather than as a strike partner instead of Boco.
Unless Barry only got a contract until the end of the season, I can't see why we would sell him. We're clearly short of fit midfielders with Cav playing on the right hand side. Good luck to the lad. I've always rated him as someone who could develop into an extremely good player. |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Good luck to the lad. He's benn impressive for us and it's a big step up for him but I'm sure that Yeovil have signed him based on his potential and why not? - Premiership teams pay millions for it
As regards to Coley's judgement - what can you do but trust it - the guy's hardly made a mistake apart from the procession of 'keepers we've had before he found Alan Curbishley's 'phone number! James, Prendergast, Hollis (and others) all did a job for us in the past but we've moved on as a club. As the man himself would say "Keep the Faith" |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
absolutely gutted hes left i hope J.C knows what hes doing cus to let him go for next to nothing (which is what an undisclosed fee means) is an absolute disgrace!
i can only hope proccy returns ASAP! |

Re: What The Hell?!?!
Gutted gutted & double gutted
But, Tin Monkey is right that we should trust Coley & Harwood Red is right too that a move for anyone at Accrington Stanley to a League 1 club on good money is what the management promise these young lads (if they train hard, do the right things on & off the pitch & play well). JC couldn't really stand in his way & unfortunately, the pull of the wages for Anthony & playing in front of bigger crowds means the move was a "no brainer". Despite the transfer window, there have been comings & goings all season & we can still get a loan signing or even a free agent in the coming weeks. We have some good contacts & so keep the faith To Anthony, thank you & the best of luck. You have hopefully come a long way to making a little piece of football history. The Future.... Rocky in centre midfield with tretts & welch at centre half 8 wins & we'll be home & dry, Grays lost at home & only Hereford are on a "run" along with the reds of Acc LOVE IT! |

well put their, id have proccy over rocky any day of the week in center mid tho. i hope hes back from injury soon cus rocky is not a midfielder:mad: in my opinion. |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
rocky is a brilliant centre midfielder when needed. argueably more presence than procter if not the work rate. remember he was a midfielder when he joined us way back when!
this club will never struggle to put together a full strength team as the passion is and will always be there. EG. Cav and Barry Hart playing in the net against Barrow after 2 sendings off in the cup a coulpe of seasons ago? Every player at this club WANTS to play for stanley - and so will always give 100% and play wherever he is needed. It's the Stanley way! :D |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
I have a feeling that the Todd is going to play right mid, and we will loan a centre mid from somewhere else.
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Once Jags is fit, he could do the 'enforcer' role in midfield.

Re: What The Hell?!?!
for those of you that don't know proccy has had knee ligament surgury and is still limping. I dolubt if we will see him at all this season but if we do it'll be late on as once the knee is fine he'll have to get fit again.
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
If I remember rightly Andy Todd is a righ sided attacking midfielder who played against us for Hucknall and Worksop, and also scored goals against us. I was disappointed when he signed for Burton at the start of the season as I would have liked him at Stanley. Coley went for him before he signed for Burton. I, personally, would prefer Andy Todd to Antony Barry. Time will tell, but let's get behind the Club and the players and the Management Team at this crucial time of the season. No bickering or falling out, we all want the same thing. These players could make history and if Antony Barry doesn't want to be part of a history making team that is up to him.
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Some of you will know that I was never sure about Anthony Barry although recently even I had to admit that he was doing an ok job and what I really can't understand about his move is the timing. Why unsettle the side now when only a few days ago the message from the club was nobody is leaving. I can only think it must have been too good an offer to turn down both for the club and player. Good luck to the lad, hope he makes it at Yeovil.
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
Quote:
Read lots of reports about him being a striker used as a winger at Burton (played against us in September), but that previously he had been an attacking midfielder. He was also one of Coley's targets in the summer before he chose Burton instead, so he is clearly thought of highly by the management. |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
I hope this is a hint at FINALLY Jagielka being used in his position of an anchorman in midfield with Todd being used as an out&out winger on the right?
If this is true it's bloody good stuff....we do need a permanent starter in that right flank position...stability can only be a good thing at this stage in the season. |
Re: What The Hell?!?!
I'm still concerned about injuries. At this stage of the season we could loose everything with a run of injuries, particularly to the midfield. Coley must strenghthen and consolidate at this time.
|
Re: What The Hell?!?!
One last thing, has Barry got a nickname and did you have any particular songs for him?
Ta. Good luck for the rest of the season |

Re: What The Hell?!?!
Thanks for that sav :)
Coley was saying on Radio Lancashire that he had signed Todd as a winger and that he had been a long-term target for this transfer window and had nothing to do with Barry's move to Yeovil. He also said that he is now short of midfielders and will definitely be bringing in at least one midfielder between now and the end of the season. I doubt that he'll find a good one that is out of contract, so I presume that he means another loan signing. |
