New signing

My Doncaster contact tells me we have signed Rigolioso (or whatever his name is). Great news if true as Coley will get the best out if him!

Re: New signing

Adriano Rigoglioso started his career playing for Liverpool where he appeared in the same FA Youth Cup winning side as Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher amongst others. He left Liverpool to join Marine where he applied his trade as a striker before being snapped up by Morecambe in the summer of 2000. After attempts by Doncaster to take him away from Christie Park failed, Rigoglioso's form began to suffer and after a sending off against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round the club decided that his heart was no longer at Morecambe Football Club and placed him on the transfer list. Doncaster Rovers had a bid of £20,000 accepted with a further £10,000 due to Morecambe when they achieved promotion from the third division and Rigoglioso made the move to Belle Vue. I think he only made seven starts for Doncaster since he signed in 2003. He was on loan at Southport earlier in the season and played against Stanley, he looked overweight and un-fit. He then had a trial at Chester but nothing came of it. If he gets fit he could do a good job for Stanley.

Re: New signing

Some Morecambe fans seem to be confident of him going to Christie Park according to their forum [see 'Celi release' thread].

There is a confusing post by his brother, "frigiglioso", who says that he cannot play for another League or Conference team because his contract has been paid up. That seems questionable as surely he would be a free agent as his contract is paid up and Doncaster would no longer keep his registration if they have paid him to leave.

Has struggled with injury and must have lost some confidence at Doncaster, but could become a very good player again under Coley.

Re: New signing

Going off his performance against us for Southport I'd be very sceptical about him signing for us - the last thing we need is another Justin Jackson fiasco

Re: New signing

He fell out with Dave Penny after being sent on as sub just before the end of a match they were losing badly. He was well wound up and his first touch was to take out an opposition player and get red-carded. As he left the field he gestured to his boss "Why did you only give me 2 minutes?" !!!!!!
Oh dear.

Re: New signing

I don't think Coley would seriously consider signing a bloke with at sort of peronality

Re: New signing

I really admired the player when he was at Morecambe, but when i saw him playing for Southport he was nowhere near the same level.

Even if we had signed him, can anyone say that he'd be fit enough to play for us this season?

Re: New signing

And, if he had signed, wouldnt there be something on the official site confirming it.
Can we actually sign players today, as there was a rumor, and it left me confused

Re: New signing

anyone who is out of contract and therefore a free agent can be signed at any stage. However you can also 'emergency loan' players from other clubs.

Re: New signing

So, he could be signed today, tommorow, or any other day
I have heard of him before, apparently a decent player, but reading some of these posts, my mind has changed, although we could do with a midfielder

Doncaster Star Sport
Any time, any place, anywhere . . . Rigoglioso all set for pastures new
DONCASTER Rovers' midfelder Adriano Rigoglioso doesn't know where he will plying his trade next season, but he does know that it won't be at Belle Vue.

The 26 year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has already been told by manager Dave Penney that he doesn't feature in his future plans.
Rigoglioso had considered cutting his loses at the end of last season after finishing the 2004-2005 languishing in the reserves.
"I decided to stay on and I hoped to have a good pre-season and force my way into the squad.
"But I started to have problems with the knee I had a bit of trouble with at the end of last season and I ended up having to have an operation and that kept me out for nearly four months.
"By the time I got myself fit against I was well down the pecking order.
"I decided to go to Conference club Southport on a month's loan to get some games under my belt, but I only played one game due to picking up a hamstring injury.
"They wanted me to go there on loan for the rest of the season but I didn't fancy it."
There was speculation that Conference leaders Accrington Stanley would come in for Rigoglioso before the end of the January transfer deadline.
"Their manager knows me from my Conference days and he has asked me to keep him informed of the situation at Doncaster," said Rigoglioso. "I also understand that one or two other club have been sniffing around.
"I want to stay in the Football League if I can, but with Accrington 11 points clear at the top of the Conference it looks as though they will be playing in the Football League next season so I would be interested in talking to them.
"But really it is just a case of seeing what happens and what offers I get at the end of the season; I still feel that I have something to offer."
Rigoglioso played in "the hole" behind the front two in his days at Morecambe before being snapped up by Rovers October 2003.
But since his move to Belle Vue he has played mainly in midfield - particularly at first-team level.
He said: "I don't think the manager recognises the position and has always favoured 4-4-2. In view of the success he has achieved playing that way you can't knock him.
"I still think that is my best position and I felt I did well there when playing in the game at Blackpool last March, but I wasn't even in the 16 for the next game and I was disappointed at the time.
"But I am prepared to play anywhere an interested club want me to play.
"With little prospect of playing in the first team again this season unless the club have a lot of injuries, I will have to use the reserves as my shop window.
"But it can be dificult to impress in the reserves when you aren't playing in a settled team.
"That is often the case when the team contains trialists or a lot of youth teamers as opppososed to other squad players, which was the case on Tuesday against Scarborough."
Despite the fact that things haven't worked out for him at Belle Vue as well as he hoped following his move from the Shrimpers, Rigoglioso says that he has no regrets about moving to South Yorkshire.
"It was an easy decision to make at the time because Doncaster were offering me full-time football, which is what I wanted.
"I would have liked to have been more involved at first-team level, but knowing what I know now I would still make the same decision.
"I have learnt a lot while I have been here and I will leave a better player."
