Re: Tonite's game

I don’t know what I was watching tonight and I don't understand what the hell we where thinking of but it certainly weren’t about winning. Southport wanted it tonight and I sincerely hope they go on to win it because they bloody well deserve it on tonight’s performance.

If the Club doesn’t want to win these games don’t bother playing them. “80 mile round trip and £12 for the gate plus a pound for some photocopy paper and a 50/50 draw ticket, to watch my team play to win, even if they lose, it’s a small price to pay” to watch us out played by a bottom of the table team and the cheerleaders put on there best performance to date it was not.

Re: Tonite's game

Come on, look at the line up! Four first teamers in opening line up not exactly a case of wanting to get through to the final. Me thinks a case of stuff this, winning the Conf & getting back into the league is more a priority than a bit of tin. Southport aint met our gale force first eleven yet! Savin it to upset Hereford with another 3pts towards history.

Re: Tonite's game

Had it been warmer it wouldn’t have been as bad. Your right and I openly accept what your saying Big Al. When they got stuck in they play some good football but they didn’t seem to want it. At 2-1 up we only had to keep the ball up field and hold them, but we seemed to fade out and just let them run away with it. But by hell, weren’t it cold……..

Re: Tonite's game

In spite of Coleman saying he wanted to win the trophy, he obviously didn't. In turning out such a weak team he showed disrespect not only for the opposition, but also for the few hardy souls who braved the conditions to watch the match. I learned my lesson at the Burscough match.

Re: Tonite's game

To be fair to John Coleman, Liam Watson did much the same thing, replacing our entire midfield, one defender and a goalkeeper from a normal first choice lineup. And two of the subs were 18 year olds from the academy.

But we knew that there would probably be six players rested as would most observers of these games.

The only shocker was the £12 admission charge which quite frankly Stanley should be ashamed of.

Maybe you should be playing the lads who played last night more regularly as they seem to have done better than your first team are doing at present:) . Have to agree with you on the admission price though which to be honest was part of the reason I didn't go last night although the club did reduce the admission in the first round we played at home but it didn't work and we had a really low turn out - maybe they looked at that and thought a reduction in prices wasn't worth it.

Re: Tonite's game

Last night was a complete waste of time and a few things baffle me
If we are not really bothered about this so called tinpot cup why play
Roberts, Williams, Edwards, Todd who are gonna feature in our title run in.

The second half last night was played in unplayable conditions, the pitch was rock hard and it only takes a badly timed tackle or a slip and we could have lost a vital player.

What if Roberts had gone over on his ankle last night ?
Imagine that, One of our best players out for the season because
he played against Southport in the Lancashire cup in front of 350 people !!

Not only that we brought Boco on with 15 minutes to go which is beyond believe.. Im just trying to say we are a professional club now so if we don't want to win the game we would have been better playing the Youth team players last night so nobody was in danger of getting hurt.

Anyone agree ?

AccyMad 01-03-2006 11:48

Re: Tonite's game

Totally agree Will and if the club weren't taking it seriously, how could they expect us to pay £12 to watch it

mellowyellow 01-03-2006 12:08

Re: Tonite's game

You don't get a choice with entry to the competition, it is mandatory that all clubs that are members of the Lancashire FA and at conference level to north west counties have to enter.

I'd imagine squad size would dictate why both teams would still have to field a number of first teamers. We're in the same boat as you in that we probably need our better players to be available to a degree greater than you do!

Pitch was hard from the kick off and appeared to freeze as play commenced.
