Entire Crawley squad up for sale!
Taken from www.bbc.co.uk/sport
Conference club Crawley Town have put their entire playing staff on the transfer list, reports BBC Southern Counties Radio. The decision was made by chairman Chas Majeed in an attempt to restructure the club and reduce staff wages. The players have been advised to contact the PFA as the club are now in breach of individual contracts. It is not clear how many players will turn up for training on Friday ahead of Saturday's match with Accrington. <!-- E SF --><!-- E BO --> |
Re: Entire Crawley squad up for sale!
Sorry but being arse end of the table doesn't seem to be the best advert for their players...
I'll give 'em a fiver for the lot and I'll have 'em on ebay for next week! |
Re: Entire Crawley squad up for sale!
How would this effect saturdays match, if only an handful of players ,turn up?
I would presume that if Crawley could not put a team out the Stanley would be given the match by forfeture. Or would all Crawleys results be nul and void, how would this effect the league table? |
Re: Entire Crawley squad up for sale!
Just to complicate matters, what happens if the match is postponed because of adverse weather conditions (frozen pitch)?

Re: Entire Crawley squad up for sale!
Crawley Town have put their entire squad up for sale amid reports of unpaid wages.
Crawley, who have 30 players listed as squad members on their official site, have struggled since turning full time in the summer. The players have now been advised to seek PFA help over breach of contract. Should the breach of contract be confirmed, the players would be free to leave the club without the constraints of the transfer window. BBC Southern Counties Radio have been told that the club are uncertain how many of the squad will appear for training tomorrow, and they may not be able to field a side for the game against Accrington on Saturday. Should Crawley leave the Conference before the completion of the season, their record would be removed. The Bulls would lose six points from their record, and Accrington three, but the Bulls would gain a game in hand on the league leaders. Just a month ago the clubs owners, SA Group, assured fans that the club would not go under if they were relegated, telling The Argus: "The club is on a solid footing. We will not go bankrupt or fold if we get relegated. Grays were full-time for several years before they got promoted and Weymouth are full-time in the Conference south this season." The SA Group had originally intended to go full time in three years following their £547,000 purchase of the club last summer, but rushed matters ahead whilst guaranteeing £2million of investment over the three years. The SA Group owns a string of bars and off-licences across the south coast, with a turnover of £50million. |

Re: Entire Crawley squad up for sale!
44 years ago it was us. Let’s not forget what its cost many generations to bring Accrington Stanley back to the threshold of re-entering League football.
Take no pleasure in what’s happening here, not least in our own self interest. If Crawley go down before the end of the season it may well affect the final outcome of the table. I hope that this is just a pressure play in order to restructure the club or at least a little miss-advised stunt. |
Re: Entire Crawley squad up for sale!
Every football fan across the world especially here in our little town of Accrington knows the hurt and loss felt when a club goes under; but let's not right the creepies off yet they are putting their squad up for sale to relieve financial difficulties not to fly the white flag!
Remember Exeter a few years ago? 'The Great Football Conference Swindle' saw them make a comeback even that Lazarus bloke would be proud of....bloody grecians can't do anything right eh! Best of luck Crawley and I hope there is a match on Saturday so we can thoroughly stuff you :D |
Re: Entire Crawley squad up for sale!
The BBC local station there "BBC Southern Counties Radio" is doing full commentary of the Crawley v Stanley match - don't know if it is online or not, but if it is, it will be linked somewhere off here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/southerncountie...ey/index.shtml
