Roof and future plans for the stadium!!

I think i remember at the last Q&A, Rob said there would be a full report on the official site regarding the roof and future plans of the stadium and as a few people are talking about moving to a new stadium just wondered what the plans were for extending the and improving then stadium
i doubt we will be moving to a new stadium soon unless we progress through the leagues rapidly.

just wondered what the situation regarding theses two points??

we wont move grounds until we have to

Re: Roof and future plans for the stadium!!

I am trying to keep optomistic on the new roof situation, but if it is not sorted out by the begining of next season i will not be a happy camper!

We have been promised this roof for 3 years or so.

The current weather conditions are one reason the attendances are as low as they are. People will not stand for another season of the clayton end terrace without a roof, especially when the price goes up on the turnstyles next season.

I'm not having a rant for the sake of it, i'm just concerned about how many new supporters are gonna be put off and not return until the the F.A. cup wagon rolls back into town!

Does anyone know how long the work will take to finish/completion dates?

Hear hear, if there isn't a roof next season, I am ditching the flags & the terrace will be a duller place IMO

The club would be dissapointed if work hasnt started over the summer

sorry just pre empting an official statement :)

I think now is the time for the club to come clean and make it public what are the start and estimated finish dates with the construction work.

It will put a lot of peolpes minds at rest, and give us all summat to look forward to(perhaps a opening party!).

To be fair spud.. there was a supporters club meeting tonight and usually a director or two are present for questions and answers. you could ahve popped along and asked them.....

spud 13-03-2006 21:13

Re: Roof and future plans for the stadium!!

If i could have kip, i would have.

It shouldn't be down to the fans to keep asking, the club should make a statement with concrete gauruntees not the 'we will be dissappointed if it dosen't' attitude we have come accustomed to.:)

Re: Roof and future plans for the stadium!!

again it comes down to communication. The club in the past has been none to forwards with information. This season has been a little better but maybe thats because we've tired of excuses. Our league position this last few weeks has seen us forget the tirades, but now that the league position is all but assured .......

WHERES OUR ROOF?
LOL

baldy 13-03-2006 21:47

Re: Roof and future plans for the stadium!!

Not having a dig at the club just wondered as im sure we will have a few new fans next season so why not tell them and the fans that are here now whats happening.

who will want to come just to get wet if theres no roof on etc because we need to attract supporters but also keep them coming espicially with us NEARLY getting promotion :D

Thanks Rob, that will make fans a little bit easier, in their minds. I think people were begining to have doubts, especially with the pronounced silence from the Club. We have been waiting since January for the plans, when you said that you would publish them within the next few days. I hope this time you stick to your word.

Re: Roof and future plans for the stadium!!

personally i cant see the roof happening for a while, as it is not in the guidelines to make the stadium acceptable for league football, im sure due to the attendances the club will do the minimum required ie more turnstiles, first aid room etc until we are getting 2000+ every game.

Chicken and egg though mate isn't it. I read Eric moaning in the local rags a few months ago asking if the people of Accrington 'really want a league team' due to poor attendances. That bloody roof must be the biggest Google Page Ranking disaster in history. Anyone would think they are trying to organsise a 3 tier cantilever stand, its dragged on for about 2 years now. More than working as a shelter im eager to get it on because of the improvement it will make to the atmosphere. It will stop all the songs evaporating into the cold night sky and instead create a clayton ednd cauldron of noise. Ragggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Anyway, positive, positive, CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are football league, say we are football league.

I cant understand what EW is going on about 2000 fans and all that, Down the road Bury get smaller attendances and Rochdale dont get to many either !!! but they cut their cloth accordingly. The roof needs to be put up to keep existing fans, the last thing we need is fans going elseware, the club need to remember the fans pay the money they are at least entitled to decent toilets and a roof to keep them dry, this is basic stuff and if the club cant get this right what chance do we stand.

Raising standards on and off the pitch go hand in hand.

Give us a green to the football league. :engsmil:

Re: Roof and future plans for the stadium!!

Over half the ground is covered. Seating and standing. Lets not get carried away. we all want a roof for the clayton end but to suggest people will support another club just because there isn't covering over a certain part is a bit OTT

maccawozzagod 15-03-2006 18:28

Re: Roof and future plans for the stadium!!

I think one or two people are trying to let us in slowly to the reality that we may not get a roof this year. I heard on the radio this morning that ASFC are before HBC tonight with a view to planning permission. It was said by our CE - RH, that even if we dont win promotion this year they will probably go ahead with their plans for a first aid room, toilets, two extra turnstiles and a police control room, as we will need them sooner or later anyway.

I sincerely hope that the roof is incorporated into those plans and their omission from the statement was purely oversight.

The issue of a roof has gone on for FAR TOO LONG. Kipax mentioned that more than half the ground is covered, maybe, I do not wish to sit, most people do not wish to sit. Also the Whinney Hill is too small, too low, and too many olde worlde people who wanna get as far away from shoute swearee people like me, or the drummer.

We wanna be dry, we wanna be loud. We will be both when the roof is in place. Two seasons ago, after promotion to the conference yielded no roof, I got into the habit of not going to a match if the weather was even slightly off. It is an easy habit to lose (going to every match) and we dont have enough fans to start losing some again. We need to keep the ones we have before we start worrying about attracting new fans. Many people have commented previously about whether they can believe what the club tell them as regards future developments - can you imagine the outcry if it is not done in the current round of development?

ps Ignore Kipax if he sides with not getting a roof - he will be wetter with raindrops dripping on his touchline hugging bonce if the roof hangs over far enough ;)

Really bugs when my fellow neighbours on Livingstone Road do nothing but try and hinder Stanley's developments, even as far back as 1985 I can remember them moaning about the floodlights, then again for the all-weather pitch (which they succeded in putting a stop to), and now moaning about the control tower and new stand. If you dont want traffic outside your house, and the roar of a crowd and to see the success of the stanley - dont move in next to a football ground.

Extract from the March edition of 'Global Sports And Property Gazette':-

"It's not difficult to understand the enormous increase in property values in the Livingstone Road area of Accrington. As the Accrington Stanley Football Club has risen in fame over the last seven years, aided by its history and provenance which stir deeply passionate feelings amongst East Lancashire ex-pats worldwide, so local property values have soared to levels which were hitherto unimaginable.

Local estate agents have, at last, acknowledged that there is an insatiable demand from abroad for holiday homes in the immediate area . One agent, who wished to remain anonymous, told our reporter that there was now an unprecedented number of planning applications in the pipeline for adding upper storeys to existing bungalows in Livingstone Road."

I have been told that work is due to start on Monday. A fence from the second gate to the car park at the Coppice End to the turnstiles with a bar etc. for the away fans, the roof, toilets and bar at the Clayton End. Next season you will not be allowed to walk to the Clubhouse from the Clayton End. and no access to the seats from the Clayton End. Just what I have heard.

[quote=Redash]Did you notice that 30 odd Grays fans (with a roof) made more noise than an entire Stanley Terrace without a roof. Think about what the atmosphere will be like if we have a roof over the terrace.

Yes, but 100% of the Gray's fans were noisy - how many of the Stanley fans on the terrace were? I would think about 10% - the Ultras deserve better back-up.
