Rob Elliot for turning Lose into draws and Draws into Wins.. every game theres a stuning save.. If his kicking was on every game he would be 100% :)

Re: -OFFICIAL-Website Player of the Year

Gary Roberts - Brilliant free kicks, goals, assists, taking defenses on and a great player to watch. Although he hasnt been as consistent these last couple of month he has overall been a fantastic player for us this season...........

I am now changing it because i thought seeing as this player was only here since January it wouldnt be right to award it him even though he has played absolute immense in most games. His penalty saves are fantastic and iv never ever been as confident as our keeper saving a penalty when we concede one when he is in the net. His shot stopping is brilliant and he can look forward to a very bright future in the game. Therefore my vote is going for ROB ELLIOT !!

Re: -OFFICIAL-Website Player of the Year

Robbie Elliot, turned us from Playoff Contenders to Champions. Saved us in dying minutes on numerous occasions. Wins have been taken from draws, and draws from losses. Rarely makes a mistake, and as Kipax has said, only his kicking is off the mark.

I will stand bye what i said earlier ..

Gary Roberts...No dissie to elliot or even randolph(charlton av seen us reight) Ian craney has been phonemonal!

Not forgettin THE MAGNET MAN, Mullin...every ball ball towards him sticks and holds...great for a midfielder...this cat is playing two or three positions per game.

It has been been close but ROBERTS for me, on where he has come from and what he has made of himself in such a short space of time.

That may well be, Spud. But it wasn't Rory being booed . . . it was a nervous young player called Gary Roberts .

Anyway, let's not stray too much from the point of AccyMad's thread. Sorry if I've been a distraction.

My vote for Official Website [didn't that used to be called Internet ?] Player of the Year is Rob Elliott.

Rob is an astonishing young man who owed us nothing but has given us everything.

His will be one of the names that will forever live in Stanleydom .

Gary Roberts, for his dogged determination and some great goals.

Mr Consistency. As with all the lads; settled into a new, young team brilliantly and quickly. My vote could go to anyone in the back four - of which I believe is the strongest we have had in years. Great player.

Paul Mullin - Never have I seen a player put so much effort in, game in game out. Mr Consistency never lets his head drop and is a shining example to young strikers everywhere.

Only one player to name  i think most our our regular team have been superb team players this season so no discredit to the rest like Craney, Cavanagh & Roberts - class act even Andy Todd has been a good asset to us this season - so well done lads!!! :D

The player i vote because he is our backbone & rare goalies get recognised above strikers, even when he had his wonkie kicks at christmas LOL he has given it all for the team & guarded our net very well.........can we keep him Coley? :D.

The player of the year should go to Rob Elliot !!! :D

Re: -OFFICIAL-Website Player of the Year

Shame it's only 1 vote allowed. So difficult to choose between Paul Mullin for the 110% he gives in every game, Ian Craney for determination and consistency, Liam Richardson and/or Michael Welch for strengthening the defence to its best in a long time, Gary Roberts for the entertainment value, etc etc. After alot of deliberation however, it has to be Robbie Elliot for the sheer number of points he has single-handedly (no pun intended) brought us this year.

Rob Elliott for me. After the goalkeeping problems of last season and the problems of this he has come in and performed heriocs in a costantly changing defence!

I too think there are a team full of potential votes and I cannot split who I would vote for so for me it has to be shared between Darren Randolph and Rob Elliott for the same reason as most people are saying - they both kept us in games where we could and should have lost with some blinding saves.

Its got to be Paul Mullin for me, If i'm honest i didn't think he would deliver this season but he has been absolutely fantastic, if this guy had pace he would have surely graced the premiership, so strong, intelligent and has the abiltily to head the ball sheringham-esque...Top bloke to and deserves to play in the league....:)

I said in a previous thread that I would share it between Randolph and Elliott. For keeping the points always last minute wonder saves etc, Give it the goalies.

Due to rules allowing only one player name, it would have to be Rob for his commitment to the cause through injury and the fact that he has played more games than Darren.

Re: -OFFICIAL-Website Player of the Year

I have to be honest here, I wasn't sure about Welchy in the first couple of games I saw him play, but in my opinion he has done as much as Rob or Darren toward keeping the goals down. Great positioning, awesome in the air and has done it with a whole range of partners at centre back. A true unsung hero. I vote for Welchy.

Count Duckula 06-04-2006 19:46

Re: -OFFICIAL-Website Player of the Year

A wonderful season in every sense of the word: so many outstanding contributions there are too many to mention. Every single player has come together this year to make true THE impossible dream.

Each and every player who has graced the Stanley squad this year will go down in history. Let's not forget Anthony Barry, Darren Randolph and Stuart Jones - all of whom are no longer at the club but are so deserved of a medal at the end of this momentous campaign.

So too the likes of Danny Alcock and Andrew Procter - the latter having battled back so admirably from injury; how it must of hurt him to miss out on Stanley's promotion year.

For all the plaudits the players will rightfully recieve come the final curtain, only one player for me will rise above the rest - a player who I have admired as a person and as a footballer every since I first came to Accrington. He always gives 110% (cliche I know but for him it is the ABSOLUTE truth), he never hides and rose above an early-season goal-drought to orchastrate the club's progression onthe field with his very presence - oh - and his goals too.

For me he is the greatest asset the football club possesses - a true leader in his own right, not to mention the most reliable and consistent striker in non-league football and always, always the first name on the teamsheet.

How fitting it would be for him to score the first goal back in the league. I pray for that moment - he deserves it.

My player of the year is

Paul Mullin

Re: -OFFICIAL-Website Player of the Year

It is so hard this season because it seems ages since we were on here whinging about Player A or Player B (Mostly after the Worcester & Stevenage games!) We 've had a brilliant 4 or 5 months which will culminate in Promotion for the third time in 5 years. It is testament to all at ASFC for a fantastic season & its very hard to pick out one player.

The goalkeeper situation was embaressing at times yet I reckon we have seen three of the best goalkeepers & the best since JAmo for cult image. Who can forget the rendition of Stay Now to Darren & Jonesy saying he's never seen fans like it! Robbie has & will always be one of the main reasons we are champions! Legend is too short a word

At the back we've been awesome from Welchy, to Leam Richardson, Cav they've all been immense.

In midfield the shining lights have been Ian Craney & Gary "nutmegged by me in the fans game" Roberts. Both will undoubtably, IMO, be offski in June but it was a pleasure. Ian Craney's dancing & Gary's Alcohol purchasing skills will be missed.

Up front, the man that strings it all together & is so honest it sometimes means he gets very little from the ref - Paul Mullin (The best thing to happen to ASFC since the Ormerod sell on clause & will only be bettered by the Clayton End Roof!) The man is so reliable, so strong, again a real Accy legend & obviously first name on the sheet.

That said, the man I believe to be player of the year, IMO is the guy who started with us as a boy. A man who is much maligned & sometimes ridiculed yet has been with us like Jimmy & John, from the start of the Coley Revolutio. A player who's game has come on in leaps & bounds yet is still young & still learning. A player who JC rates very highly & he obviously knows a player. A man with I believe has everything & only needs experience to go to the very top!

LAdies & Gentlemen (& Boggles!) I give you

Robert Williams (My Player of the Year)

PS I would personally like to take the opportunity to thank everybody at Accrington Stanley for this wonderful season. Players, fans, Management, BAckroom Staff (even Shultzy!) Groundsmen, Mascot, Bar staff, Coach Drivers the whole damn lot of you/us should be very proud! When the dust settles remember that we all had a hand in this little piece of history.

PPS & I don't just mean the fact we have won so many games, I mean th e whole experience this season has been A1! I love you all!

Cant argue with any of the players people have put forward, for me phil edwards has been brilliant, ant barry was also, boco has been great some games but inconsistant, but my choice...

Ladies & Gentlemen (& men who tuck their bits between their legs pretending to be a lady)

Ian Craney, just for his battling and ability to change a game when he gets a little mad, scores now and again too.

This is looking like a done deal! I agree,it's gotta be Rob Elliott;a true professional in every sense of the word.He has saved our sorry a** on so many occasions this season and had to cope with some seriously woeful defending.I hope he stays with us but I fear there maybe more tempting offers heading his way! Well done Rob!

Rob Elliott. Reason should be self explanatory. That should detract the effort, commitment and passion of the rest of the team, every one them a professional Footballer, every one of them in Accrington’s debt. Thank you.

Re: -OFFICIAL-Website Player of the Year

Got to be Gary Roberts.

He has been the difference between being a hard to beat workmanlike team and a consistently winning team IMO. His pace and skill are a cut above and the goals he has chipped in with have been invaluable.

As for Rob Elliott, he looks a good keeper. I think this love in is a bit disrespectful to Darren Randolph though myself, he was every bit as good IMO.

Each to their own though!!

KiTChener 07-04-2006 21:19

Re: -OFFICIAL-Website Player of the Year

I think Darren Randolph.............

If only for the best headline written about his leaving us just before Christmas

"RANDOLPH THE RED LOAN REIGNED HERE"

Pure class, as his performances were.

Saying that, I really have to go for his mate, Rob, as someone else said on here, he has turned losses into draws, draws into wins, with his superb saves at crucial times.
Was behind his goal, second half. last Saturday, & really began to appreciate how lucky we are to have had him for the last few months.....

Thanks, Rob, you (& Darren) have got us where we are at present.

I'm talking as one whose boyhood heroes were Frank Swift & Bert Trautmann!!!!
You're both too young to have even heard of them!

Tin Monkey 08-04-2006 06:46

Has to be Paul Mullin. The team can't play without him and tonight at FGR illustrated that perfectly. Without Mullin we have no plan B, so he has to be player of the season.

His vital saves must be worth 20 points this season and we'd have been embarassed on a few more occassions especially recently. The difference between this season and the previous two is that we have leaked far fewer goals well done Robbie

Great arguments for a lot of players, and hope they're all still here next season. They are all still improving, individually and collectively, several match winners and savers, but all work as a team.

Special mention, from me, for Phil Edwards, great first season; Craney, who has come on a ton and has potential to get much better.

But there's only one PAUL MULLIN, masterclass in leading the line, and the team, every single game.

After a rather disappointing season last year, Ian Craney has come back with a vengeance, dominated the midfield in virtually every game he's played and chipped in with vital goals as well.
