tonights game

Heard today that paul mullin is unavailable tonight after injuring his shoulder on saturday. Apparently it's still very sore, and it isn't worth risking making it worse.:(

Alvin the chipmunk 07-04-2006 18:26

Re: tonights game

Maybe a rare start for Mangy then?

sparkie 07-04-2006 18:33

Re: tonights game

starting line up as follows :-

elliot
ventre welch edwards cavanagh
todd williams craney roberts
boco mangan

subs:-
alcock tretton jagielka boyd and 1 other that i didn't hear which i would presume would be brown

Alvin the chipmunk 07-04-2006 18:36

Re: tonights game

Thanks Sparkie, Ive got a bet on that Mangy wil score 10 this season. He's currently on 7 so you never know.... and his explosive pace will cause a problem for any team. That said, if we win 5-0 and he doesn't score, then I won't be complaining.

Doug 07-04-2006 18:37

Re: tonights game

Just seen the line up on Sky Live Score Andy’s on in place of Paul, harsh break for him really when you consider that this game could bring us within one point. Get yourself right Paul lad….All the best.

Alvin the chipmunk 07-04-2006 18:41

Re: tonights game

Hope Rommy Boco can get one tonight, or at least have a good game. Hasn't scored for a while and it cant help his confidence. Add this to the fact he's in a foreign country and I really feel for him.

Doug 07-04-2006 18:44

I like Mr Boco. Impressive chap, almost time Good Luck lads....

Re: tonights game

0-0……I think we need to start pushing forward all the way in the second half. Poor Boco getting knocked about…Thank God again for the exploits of Mr Elliott.

Doug 07-04-2006 19:38

Re: tonights game

I'v no doubt we're all missing Paul Mullin tonight. We need one or two big lads on our team I think.

Henry Morton 07-04-2006 19:44

Re: tonights game

Which radio station, please ? Bear in mind that I'm the wrong side of the Pennines.

I've tried BBC Radio Lancs but they're not currently broadcasting digitally.

Obviously, DAB is preferable, but I'll try any analogue signal.

Doug 07-04-2006 19:54

Re: tonights game

Sorry Mr Morton, all I’m able to get is Radio Lancashire on 95.5 FM Now’t else I’m afraid.

Let us stay cool, calm and sozzled at this moment [. . . HIC ! ]

One point is a good thing to have - especially when you compare the 75th minute of the game to the 80th.

Tomorrow's Conference teams will kick off at 15.00 in the knowledge that the Stanley Steamroller moves inexorably forward . . .

Amen to that....

Safe Journey one and all for those travelling home tonight and tomorrow from Forest Green.

Henry Morton 07-04-2006 20:54

Re: tonights game

And well done FGR who, by all accounts, scored an excellent goal.

And even more "Well Done" to our supporters who made the journey.

I'd be very surprised if our own Gloster Red hadn't attended. No doubt he'll be home before the others and give us his own (considerable) wisdom on how went the day.

There's a wonderful old American vaudeville song called "The Stanley Steamer" (named after an early 20th century automobile).

Perhaps someone with more time on their hands than I have would care to look it up and rewrite it to suit our current situation.

In fact, I'm sure that someone at Preston University could construct an entire thesis from it . . .;)

Yup, (as they ask in Brokeback Mountain) that's the one.

I've just sung the whole song at full volume with the excellent piano backing provided. I'm sure that all the other residents in my small block of flats will have appreciated this , particularly as it's only 1.10 a.m.

Thanks Kitch !

Re: tonights game

just got back and my opinion is that the M6 sucks, so did Stanley.

Every ball was battered from our defenders to theirs looking for big Mullers. Mangy and Boco were not the men to hit aerial balls at. I think we were looking for the ball over the top every time and succeeded with none. It took FGR to score before we realised we were in a game. On the one occasion that we got the ball on the deck we scored. The ball was played around until a cross went in that about five people went for and the keeper fumbled it. The keeper and the ball were both poked home and in truth was probably a foul. That was our only meaningful attempt on target. Another good turnout from Accy with around 200 making the trip (cue 'proper' clubs having some fun about Champions Elect only taking 200 away, how dare we go up on crowds like that). Ultra's on song particularly in the first half. Second half faded away but we had the wind and rain in our faces and zero happening on the field.

And the M6 sucked

Re: tonights game

yes henry i was first home im sure...but no computer..

my wisdom on the game would be that it was not our best performance but forest green despite their league position are never easy tobeat at home and were worthy of a point last night they probably had the edge in terms of passion ( they need the point/s as much if not more than we do) but the steamroller which is stanley rolls on with woking next en route.
it is perhaps easy to get frustrated at games like last night that on paper should be 3 points but this late in the season trips to clubs at the bottom are no foregone conclusion and point away from home is always welcome.....on stanley on

Now that we've seen the lyrics (wonderful midnight research) a rewrite of that looks rather challenging, but 3/2/1 Wheels on My Wagon seems quite appropriate .....

4 wheels on my wagon
And we're still rolling along
HUFC are after me
But we don't care, we're nearly there
And we're singing the Stanley song

Stanley, Stanley, Stanley aye,
This is the club that wouldn't die
3 points away is division 2
And we can watch the playoffs
Without having to cry

3 wheels on my wagon
And we're still rolling along
HUFC are after me
Beat by Grays, in a daze
But we're still singing the Stanley song

Stanley, Stanley, Stanley aye,
etc.

2 wheels on my wagon
And we're still rolling along
HUFC are after me
FGR a pain, points down the drain,
But we're still singing the Stanley song

Stanley, Stanley, Stanley aye,
etc, etc

Only questions are, how many wheels did we have on the wagon to start with, and how many have fallen off since Staveros did his "It's all over" post ?
