Jim Harvey

I see that Morecambe have released the Irishman from his contract after 10 years. With McIllroy leaving the club today too, who will take up this post with the Shrimps?

Anyone having a punt on Coleman? :D

KIPAX 16-05-2006 11:27

Re: Jim Harvey

I knew harvey was out... I had followed that one from when he first became ill.. I wasnt aware Mcillroy was out.. seems a bit silly losing him..

Not as silly as suggesting coley for the job though.... bit of stirring there TM ?:) Yes he has a background there but I wouldnt have thought it was that strong and the accy background is now stronger IMHO

AccyMad 16-05-2006 11:28

Re: Jim Harvey

I was just reading about it on Morecambe's website, can't help but feel sorry for Harvey. Seems a bit harsh but maybe he thought his health couldn't stand another season of disappointment with the Shrimps

Tin Monkey 16-05-2006 11:31

Re: Jim Harvey

I'm not saying McIllroy won't return, but he officially said goodbye to people at the club today.

As to the Coleman connection... why not? Now, where's me spoon? :D

Put your spoon away TM - just been announced on the fishy site that Coley and Jimmy have signed 2 year contracts at Stanley

Ahhhhhhhhhh... I can't help but claim some role in this major development.

Maybe I should become an agent if, within minutes of my 'speculations', the club offer the management pair a new deal?

Where's my 10%??

Stimson has left Grays too. That comes as a massive shock to me

Stimson has apparently resigned because of the diappointment of not getting into the league at the first attempt. Sounds a bit fishy to me - he's probably got another job lined up

Ummm, it's a little far North, surely.

And Grays could probably pay more than Morecambe.

I think, if anything, theres a League Club involved

Re: Jim Harvey

..actually Diesal you are so far off the mark with that one.

Our Board has at least personal collective fortunes of £20million.

Still, all the money in the world can't bring promotion....as we and others have found out.

I seem to recall Eric saying that Coley had 3 years in which to achieve promotion to the league otherwise he'd be out. Sounds to me as though to be successful you have to have a bloody mean streak. Maybe my lot have not been that in the past.

You recall wrong. or your just a sad little person trying to cause trouble.. hmmm tough call eh :)

Tin Monkey 17-05-2006 07:20

Re: Jim Harvey

One thing I do recall is my statement a few months ago that Morecambe had stagnated under Harvey and they'd never do anything with him in charge. I also recall being criticised for my view by Morecambe fans who listed the things they'd won under Harvey (a couple of tinpot cups, etc), but it seems that the Morecambe board have finally come round to my way of thinking.

I sympathise with Harvey and totally agree that the timing of the move is not the best, but football is increasingly a cut-throat world and sometimes tough decisions have to be made.

DanTheMonkey 17-05-2006 10:09

Re: Jim Harvey

Whats with all the manager sacking's all of a sudden, Westly going from Stevenage (no big surprise, really, they shopuld be in play off's every time)
Harvey leaving Morcambe, which is a bit harsh, as i have already said
And Stimson leaving because he didnt achieve promotion 1st time, thats a really poor reason, surely he wasnt expecting to walk the Conf at the first time of asking ... ?

zayno14 17-05-2006 16:02

Re: Jim Harvey

maybe stimson has lined a job up elsewhere? I couldn't see him just walking out on a play off team, albeit they were knocked out and the fa trophy winners...

Re: Jim Harvey

I also hear Bury are on the verge of signing Thompson according to Shrimps board, i rate the guy, pace pace and more pace along with a few tricks and scores his fair share of goals..Anyone else like to see him at the fraser eagle stadium next season playing for us?

Twiss is musclebound without an ounce of fat on him so I really don't know where you're coming from there mate? and he has had his hair cut in anticipation but the worzel gummidge stylist should have left well alone, still he's a top player who should be playing at a higher level without doubt.

Perkins is a fantastic player and yes he would do well in your side but surely you have enough good players don't you????

shakermaker 17-05-2006 23:45

Not really, one hard working player with a cracking header playing alongside the laziest player in the Conference? Not convinced myself...

Don't get me wrong, Twiss is talented, but he's really, really lazy.

Re: Jim Harvey

I'd have Perkins in my team, He has great feet and doesn't stop running, he was the only player that stood out from the Morecambe team that got beat at accy, gave it his all throughout the 90 and would be a top addition to our squad.

I really can' see where you have got that from. When we played them a there place, if you watch the highlights on conferencefootball.tv you will see that every move Morcambe was involved in, he had a massive part to play, and in that game, with the ball, never stopped running.
I still belive he WOULD have been a quality signing, but with his new contract signed, not a chance now :)

Are you sure you're not thinking of Perkins? Twiss is bloody lazy, I've seen him play a few times, and he's never majorly impressed me. Perkins on the other hand...

Sammy McIlroy has been appointed the new manager at Morecambe, so much for some of their fans saying McIlroy wouldn't take the job because of the way Jim Harvey was treated and McIlroy and Harvey being such good mates

Coley says in the Observer hes in advanced stages of talks with two midfielders...one from a league 1 club and another from the Conference

According to our local Press Gary Thompson has been made an offer by Coley to join you guys in your first season in the league.

Can't see Thommo joining now that Samy Mc is on board. Same applies to Bury who have also made an offer.

The lad you have signed comes well recommended I understand. A replacement for 'superstar' Craney?

Nice try there, except the lad we've signed plays on either flank, or up front. Craney plays in the middle, so wouldn't be much of a replacement

Whats with the obsession in signing the morecambe squad???? I would sign one maybe two push thats Perkins who is one of the best players in the conference and maybe that fella they call Jesus (forgot his name)
But other than that there not world beaters, We need to sign players with plenty of league experience in my opinion

I agree with timmins the only players from morecambe I would like to see at stanley are david perkins for his versatile hobbit like tenacity, and chris 'jesus' blackburn as he is a quality defender.

I also agree with Timmo - whats with all this sign this Morecambe player sign that Morecambe player - wouldnt want 'Jesus' personally - Mully and Roberts took the mick out of him at the IES this season for 90 mins... We need to be looking at higher rated players people - not Conference players... Onwards and upwards..

"Jesus" does have league experience. 75 games for Chester before they dropped into the Conference and he must have been young when he played them as he is only 23 now.

Perkins is their best player and the only guy i'd have from there team the rest bar tommo who is staying aren't good enough...Morecambe were suprisingly rubbish at home, they couldn't handle us on TV and Perks was there only decent player..The rest of them are good enough for the league...
