Well done Coley. Sounds like Doherty is a cultured palyer for his age with a good pedigree & bags of potential. Nice one.

Re: New signing

Rob,
Can we please have information on how long he has signed for, and the same with future signings?

Re: New signing

From the Football Conference website:

21-year-old Doherty is manager Chris Coleman's first summer signing following his release from League One side Port Vale.

he has signed for 12 months, with an option for a second year's contract depending on the number of appearances he makes this season.

Good stuff, looks like the kid can play !!!

Re: New signing

He was reported to have turned down Bristol City, Motherwell and Yeovil in the LET because he said to Coley if he ever left Vale he would sign for us..He also seems to be very loyal guy, not just someone who can play football..

DanTheMonkey 30-05-2006 08:43

Re: New signing

And that's a quality that seems to be lacking in football today
Big name players being temted away from the club that taught them all they know, all for a big bag of green, where is the loyalty
That's why i enjoy the pleasures of lower league football

KIPAX 30-05-2006 08:46

Re: New signing

Then your in a dream world.. There is no loyalty in footbal... the only siff of loyalty about is from the fans... Players have there own reasons for whatever they do and it aint loyalty. They all have there price.. most its money others its other things... But no player will stick with one club just because they like the club....

Roony...allways a what?

Re: New signing

Mostly it is the money, but you never see this within lower league football, or am i still dreaming Kipax ?

Your in a world of your own there.. its probably moreso in non league... What do you think most non league players dream is? Dont you think there eyes light up if a league team comes for them ?

Tell me one single stanley player who wouldn't sign for Arsenal if they came calling.. a daft example but you get the picture :)

Re: New signing

he knows stanleys going to be in the limelight next season so more clubs will see him. using club as a stepping stone but who cares if he does a good job .

He has been at Morecambe for a while, which proves my point about loyalty

Are you being serious ????

So if Arsenal came in for him. Or Carlisle even or newcastle and offered him big bucks and a league future.... He would turn it down because he loves morecambe..

yeagh right.... time to wake up and smell the coffee there I think :)

Well he was a big player in Chester's Championship winning team and his contract was expiring..Morecambe who were in the conference came in and offered him more money than Chester and he accpeted.. So he turned down the chance to play football league to play for a team who offered more money..Which to me indicates unloyalty and greed for money..For me it's like IF Craney joined Morecambe becasue they offered him a contract more than we could offer him despite us playing league next season..To me this is unloyal as he is being driven by money..

here, here

sparkie 30-05-2006 21:23

Re: New signing

there are plenty of examples in non-league football of greed over the shirt you wear, Lee Elam, Adriano Rigoglioso, Micheal Twiss, Anthony Elding I could go on and on and on!!! A lot of them now seem to play for weymouth!!!

maccawozzagod 30-05-2006 21:38

Re: New signing

was it Tony Naylor who dropped from league 1 to the conference because Telford offered more money than wherever he was?

Cafu01 30-05-2006 22:41

Re: New signing

If you got offered a job with more money would you take it????
