That were needless, mate. If it weren't for the Ultras, there'd have been no away coaches.

Re: Stanley Fanzine Idea

While I think the question was badly phrased, I can understand why it was asked. Anyone using the club to 'potentially make money' should be able to explain where the money is going to. When I did a fanzine I was asked on numerous occasions where the money was to be used and I was always happy to tell them (match/ball sponsorships, season tickets as prizes, etc).

As I have stated before on numerous occasions, if a fanzine is to be set up, then I'd be only too happy to help out in anyway I could - articles, etc. I also have some experience of page layout, plus the tools to do it. :)

........what's with all the bitterness/jealousy aimed at the Ultras. 'do anything to get on TV?' - please explain this intriguing comment....

Re: Stanley Fanzine Idea

I agree, what's with all the bitterness? The Ultras are one of the best things that has ever happened to ASFC. Win 5-0, lose 5-0, they are always in fine voice and are great ambassadors for our club. Anything to get on tele? Again, jeaulousy. The Ultras are only trying to open more peoples eyes to the club they have in their town. Their banners and flags have benn praised by home and opposition alike, as well as the Stanley managerial team. I try to stand as close to them as possible during games, as the atmosphere they create is second to none. The way some of you talk, it seems you want to keep Stanley a small club for the flat-cap brigade and those in the know. We are growing, and the Ultras have and will continue to play a part in that. They inspire the players, run coaches to away games and generally increase the enjoyment of matchdays. I sometimes feel priveliged to support the same club as them. The moaners got their drum took away, can't you just leave them alone now?

RANT OVER:)

Fanzine = top idea

I`ll 2nd that Alvin.
The Ultras are a great bunch and matchdays would not be the same without them.

I agree totally Alvin ! :)

The Ultras are very good for Stanley, create a great atmosphere at every match and have done a wonderful job in helping to promote the club and keep its name in the public conscience.

I am relative newcomer to supporting Stanley, but have only praise for the Ultras - they are a great bunch of guys, very friendly and made me feel most welcome as a supporter ! :D :D :D

Many of that group have been going for a decade or more. A good portion for two decades. Many of that group are still around school leaving age and have been going since the Unibond days. There is a blend of youth for the future support and experienced campaigners who have seen far worse days than the current ones. Not one member of the Ultras would have a bad word to say about the cloth cappers who have done their bit. Their is still room for such servants and their is also room for a new breed. Embrace it rather than fighting it.

Keep yours eyes and ears open and there will be developments before the league season is commenced.

As for the other comments;

The whole point of getting on the telly and frequent radio shows is that Stanley is kept in the public domain. Anybody can contribute to that. If you have the idea for getting on a particular show then you and your friends can get on it. I wouldn't have minded being on various things but its up to those people to whom the idea was borne. As far as other ideas are concerned why not pester the local papers letter pages with various gripes or praise.

The Ultras are personified by a group of people who congregate behind the goal and make a racket. But they are not the be all and all. "Ultra" is a movement or idea not a club. If you display an ASFC car flag then in a small way you are Ultra-ing, pinning your badge on your lapel of your Sunday Suit could be said to be Ultra. Everybody who has been or is an active member of the Supporters Club is maxing their support of ASFC, which is a trait of Ultra-ism. A band of people choose to be Ultra by putting on displays of colour and noise that are envied by supporters of clubs the length and breadth of Britain. What we lack in numbers is made up for by fervour and enthusiasm.

By the end of next season you will know exactly what the Ultras are about.

Get over the Ultra website and have a look about. You will discover that it is not a self -appreciation society but more of a case of people trying to enhance the reputation and profile of the club we love.

Another reason why I "sometimes" doubt why I bother.....

Very easy to hide behind a log in & mock. If people weren't aware, my first game at Accy was 1983 & I was 10 years old. I joined the Army & missed alot because of tours etc, A reason I wasn't around for some of the adventures in the 1990's. Big friggin deal.......

I have lots of pride & envy for the fans that travelled with ASFC at that time but at the end of the day whatever anyone has done for our club in the past in reality all that matters is what you do in the future.

Forget TV appearances.... Out of the people at the meeting to introduce new ideas there were 3 members of the Barbados lads so wind your ****in necks in

Either help & encourage, or keep quiet

Jase, just admit your a media whore and be done with it ;)

Some of the posters on here rank of jealousy, without any reason for it. I've had a few people say to me "Oh, why were those on SoccerAM there? I never seen them in 1990!" etc sort of comments, it's pathetic.

The Ultras are a good thing, and Jase has put more money, time and effort into helping the club than the people slagging him off have.

If somebody actually has a reason why they dislike the Ultras, please, by all means share it. But make some sense whilst your at it!

How about looking into the Ultras and whate we do/who we are and what we spend the money on before slagging us off pal

Where in my question am I slagging anyone off Smiffy?

It was a straight forward question which I gather the answer is NOTHING from the proceeds will go to Accrington Stanley.

There is only a limited space on the ground for all the flags, so I don't see why there as to be a new one for every game.
I know what the ultras do and most of it is good, especially like the ultras footy team and getting on soccer am(which I thought was absolutly brill)

Sorry if i've upset any of the ultras but the reaction to the question speaks for itself.

I take it i won't be invited to the ultras website "secret place":) <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Re: Stanley Fanzine Idea

how about if nowt goes to the club but to the community in general?

my main ethos though is that fundraising is 2nd to the priority of raising the clubs profile. Money is important however for the purpose of putting on displays that most of you seem to enjoy (and that promtes the club in the correct family-orientated manner) and for making up the shortfall on away coaches and to pay for jobs around the place that ..................... oops nearly said too much.

All flags have been purchased by myself at my own cost, including the huge surfer. All monies created from any Ultra projects will go into fan projects. The whole ethos is by the fans for the fans it is definately not to make money for the club, which at the end of the day, if it survives from hand outs then we are "screwed" anyway

Most supporters groups at our current level are actively into helping the fans & not the club. The OSC have their own mission to raise money for ASFC the club & a good job they do at that

I don't wanna have to defend anything we do because we have done it for the right reasons we believe, but all I will say is watch this space in terms of new "non flag" ventures. & remember every Sunday Stanley Ultras FC travel the length & breadth of the North West as ambassadors for our fine club. I know that people from Leeds, Barrow, Southport, Northwich have attended matches because of us cus I've spoke to them. They pay for entry, programme etc etc. Which isn't direct money into the club but indirect.

Instead of hiding behind a PC & having an opinion, PM me & I'm sure we have a role for anyone who has the best interests of ASFC at heart

If you just trying, as TM says, to fish for a response then well done & good day

On Stanley On!
