cheese rolling beats even the American sports because it stinks. It used to be okay but it's gone downhill since (hee hee)

I would have to agree, when i lived in Canada i tried, i really did, to get to grips wth their sports but they just did absolutley nothing for me, apart from in Ice Hockey when the gloves came off, i would rather go and watch Burnley than any of their sports, but that said each to their own i guess.

I'm going to nominate that ever nauseating outdoor activity known as golf. While I am not much of a Mark Twain fan, I find myself agreeing with his assessment of said game...nothing but a good walk spoiled.

The England team largely comprised players from the West Riding of Yorkshire and from East Lancashire.

The USA team had planned to play in the 1940 Olympics, but for obvious reasons that was postponed.

I consider it highly likely that there would have been at least one England player with Accrington connections.

That's fascinating. Unfortunately, after a bit of Googling, it seems that most of the British side were Canadians playing in the newly formed John Moores' Yorkshire-Lancashire Major League and the 'East Lancashire' is mainly South East Lancashire so there's little chance of an Accy connection. I saw cheese rolling once. Now that's a game for real nutters!
