Two important meetings coming up
 

FIRST :- On Monday 5th June at 7.00 in the Sports Bar a meeting for anyone interested in helping the Accrington Stanley Exhibition project along.

I do know that all ideas on the subject which have been posted on this forum have been noted , and that the suggested names have all been listed for consideration . (Yes, really!)

Please bear in mind that you do not have to be a Member of the Supporters' Club to participate in this project. You just have to care about the history of our wonderful Football Club and about passing on this unique heritage to others - particularly younger citizens and others who were not here in the Sixties or earlier.

Gayle Knight and Bill Nuttall (who are the main protagonists of our bid to secure Lottery Funding for this worthwhile scheme) deserve all the help that they can get , but they can not do it without a lot more support than they're getting at the moment.

Please get there if at all possible.

SECOND :- Supporters' Club Meeting on Monday 12th, usual time, usual place. New Secretary and Membership Secretary required for the start of the new season, so please make the effort.

Henry,
Due to other commitments I won't be able to make it to the sup club meet, could you please put forward the following on my behalf.

1/ The agm is normally October if my memory serves me right, it should be brought forward to may or june so that all officials can be elected before the start of the following season. this would help with setting up the new seasons membership cards/badges etc.
2/ as soon as fixtures are available bookings for social events for the 12 month period should be booked in advance, so that we can hold celebrations etc without conflicting with others.
3/ I will pm this as it could be a bit contraversial.:)

Kate has not asked me to remove her details, although I'm well aware of her decision.

What I will say, though, is that the Supporters' Club can ill afford to lose such talented people as Kate who has been an excellent Vice Chair and
has the ability to think clearly and incisively through problems.

We discussed the business of timing of the appointment of new officers at the last Meeting, so Bottletop's idea is definitely part of our thinking. I brought my own resignations forward for that very reason, in the hope that new people could be in place for the start of our first League Two season.

Not every member can make it to meetings due to personal/business/other circumstances. But are as members still entitled to know what is happening within the organisation.

I am a member of a trade organisation which covers the industry I work in, if I can't make it to a meeting I still receive a copy of the minutes of said meeting, so am fully informed of what occured.

What is point of having a sup club website when meeting info isn't put on for all members to see?

Seems there's a mini revolution going on:). Seriously though, me and my lads have been members for a few years now but I gave up going to the meetings before Christmas, the only one I've attended since then was the April one and then only because I had to ask if it was ok to present the website player of the year trophy at the presentation night. I still paid subs for the three of us though although along with quite a few others I won't be renewing them this season.

With respect Ossyclogger, I attended almost every meeting for a couple of years but got fed up with hardly ever being listened to when I had a valid point to make and only being thought of someone to make the butties for any events we held. You might think I'm being paranoid but it proved a point when at the meeting before the kids Christmas party, for one reason or another none of the women who are usually there could attend so what happened regarding the catering for the kids do - the landlady at the Crown was asked to provide the refreshments!

People have been criticising the Supporters Club since the Unibond Days, but there are enough people willing to muck in just no modern popular direction for everyone's efforts (Poker night excluded!)

Until it embraces what the supporters want it will be criticised

My mood is explained by so called supporters coming on here whinging and moaning about the Official Supporters Club when they obviously don't really give a toss what happens anyway. If they did they would attend meetings and make changes. We will probably soon be the only league club without a supporters club.Given that the supporters club are supposed to be applying for a Lottery Grant to put on an exhibition about the club, draw your own conclusions.

its seems weve got some kind of coup happening its what i said when i first starting posting some people have just jumped on the bandwagon for personal gain anyway im gonna get banned again for stating the obvious the official supporters club was here before the new wave of supporter started coming when we started winning why dont we try and get this sorted before the beginning of the season.if the exhibition does happen where is it going to be situated .????????:rolleyes:

Ossyclogger you can attend meetings cos youre retired and have nowt else to do all day or night others like myself have businesses to run/work shifts etc (like I said in an earlier post on this thread) so we can't make it to every single meeting, even the chairman has missed meetings in the past.
So we pass on ideas etc through the message board, is this a crime?

is it complete ignorance to respond to an idea/suggestion put forward just cos it as been passed on through the message board rather than at an actual meeting?

It's not my exhibition, it's the supporters clubs but I suppose I can understand how that impression might be given.

Thisis how it came about. I spoke to Rob Heyes ages ago about using the clubhouse to put on Vagina Monologues. Whilst there I mentioned that it would be an ideal time to hold an exhibition about Accrington Stanley, given that at the time they were looking like they were going to win. He agreed so I looked into the option of lottery funding on his behalf. Rob and I had a meeting with heritage lottery but the outcome of that was that, although they would probably fund it, it would need to go through a supporters club, (Heritage Lottery can not fund organisations with a turnover of over £100k).

So, I spoke to a member of the supporters club and told them the situation so far. I then had a meeting with them about it and told them what would be needed to progress it.

My position is this - if the supporters club want an exhibition then I will help them apply for the funding. I would not put in any fee for doing all the work involved in sending off the funding bid because I think it's a great time for an exhibition and I am happy to help with funding bids (I have offered to help lots of other community and social groups obtain this sort of funding because I believe this area should be going for as many as possible). If the supporters club get the funding then they will be responsible for deciding how to manage it - not me. If at that point they want to appoint me as project manager then some of the funding would go towards paying my professional fees. However, I have stressed and will stress again, that if they get the funding and want to appoint anyone else as project manager then I am not bothered one iota. The aim is to get the funding and the exhibition first, beyond that I really do not need to be involved.

Now, I know that there are some people who think I'm doing it for personal gain but I'd rather walk away right now than cause any problems.

I would say your probably the only person who could project manage it... no one at supporters club could.. thats not an attack or insult... each to his own.. i know all the "active" members and theres isnt the time or experience available within them :)

I can't just 'get on with it' because although I can say what I think we should be doing, it has to have full support from the supporters club - by full support I mean that the committee has to agree to what's going in the forms and to sign them. They also need a constitution before I can do anything and from what I understand at the moment there isn't one.

I have tried, helped out, inputted into meetings with new ideas and yet you collectively share a mental block which refuses to accept ideas from people who are either a woman or under 60. Makes sense when most of the new supporters are under 16.:confused:

I don't understand how the Supporters club can justify the pathological narcissism which infatuates them with trying to run things like their 60's predecessors.
We are not in the north west counties anymore.
Wake up.
Or else you will very quickly see the supporters club driven into a rut of obscurity which will be extremely unattractive to everyone outside of your little gentlemans club.

Because you're packing in. All one can do is to keep turning up and keep on trying. All it would take is 10 or12 like minded members to turn up at a meeting and all sorts of things could be voted on and changed. As things stand the whole setup is likely to grind to a halt. We have no vice chair, no secretary, no membership secretary. No-one comes to the meetings with the expertise to fill the vacancies. As Gayle says, we need a written constitution to run the club correctly. Without this we cannot apply for a lottery grant. Without a lottery grant there can be no great exhibition . And so it goes on.

But I wont go back to spend 20 minutes arguing over who turns the tellies on before a game or to organise events then advertise them two days before they happen.... this years supporter of the year voting upset a lot of people.. it was an absoloute farce... sorry but theres lots wrong and it needs sorting in my opinion..... but as you rightly say .. not enough people interested to sort it out.... so where do you go from there?

You're half right about the meetings needing people to attend to move forward; but it is a two way street ossyclogger.
In order to keep people interested there needs to be a certain level appeal to fuel their efforts.
Grumpy old men banging on (for what seems like an eternity to any soul with a drop of lifeblood inside him/her) about ****** all - then getting shot down for bringing up a new point to get something positive acheived; is definitely not appeal.

answering one question would go a long way to helping the OSC.

What is the purpose of the OSC?

Its not fun because it is old hat ideas in general being organised in order to pay for old hat things.

The club doesn't need the money - it needs people through the door.

Raise money for needy local causes and get in the news as ASFC OSC buys wheelchair for local child. One or two knobs on here would think that is bigging yourself up "I want to be in the paper" rubbish. Anything and everything that can get us into the media is a good thing.

Put on some kind of event that everybody in town can get into somehow. The Carnival events were the right kind of thing because everybody sees it. Can something else be done along those lines? The OSC used to organise the end of season open day at the ground. Where did that go? Can it be revived? If you can find the right events that people can really get their teeth into then they may want to get involved.

The biggest gripe is against both the OSC and ASFC. The lack of communication around the place is amazing. It is like a secret society where any absentees are excluded. Their is a website for both clubs that takes no time whatsoever to update. As long as the information is conveyed to the relevant person. Let people know what has been said. If it is crap then they can ignore it and the same old few people can carry it out. If it is worthwhile or likeable then more people can get involved and just maybe they will get invovled in more things in future.

Yes, you need our memberships. But if we haven't paid up can we not get involved. Membership is an option and we feel obliged to pay it anyway. Membership should entitle you only to feel that you have done your first bit of the season. It is a belonging thing only. Maybe you could send out minutes of the meetings, or christmas cards or itineraries or something. If not just to let people in on whats happening but so that they feel like they belong.

Foster the team spirit. Not everybody feels like they would be welcome by the Ultras. Well you would be. Likewise not everybody feels like they would be welcome at the OSC as it is 'clicky'. Let everybody know they are welcome and that we are a family club. Red and white fortnight should be an excellent Google Page Ranking exercise, is there anything you can contribute in terms of manpower and presence? Maybe a marquee/caravan on Broadway giving out literature or membership applications? Parked up next to the LET caravan giving out car stickers should be worthwhile.

There is no such thing as them and us. Lets help each other this year and see just how far a positive outlook can get us.

It seems as if the Supporters' Club is caught in a vicious circle. People won't go to meetings because nothing ever changes, but nothing can ever change unless "new blood" gets involved. Maybe the best end to all this would be to disband the Supporters' Club and think about setting up an Independent Supporters' Trust (or whatever you wanted to call it).
Maybe people who've been involved in the OSC in the past but got fed up for whatever reason might be interested in getting involved in a new set up (but it would have to be different than the OSC or we would be back to square one!) The first thing to do would be to have a constitution and decide what the profile should be. As Maccawozzagod suggested, raising the profile of the club is probably the way forward.

Things did get changed... then when no one was looking they got changed back to the old way :(

As for new setup...Already up and running.. unofficial supporters club.. lots of things organised.. all out in the open.. no secrets. nothing hidden... and bags full of ideas all in motion... some advertised on here .. and sorted in one meeting ... A meeting i didnt go to and not involved with before anyone asks.... but I have followed the progress and offered my support :)

one of the reasons that I resigned was the fact that I knew I wouldn't be able to attend all future meetings due to other commitments.

I have attended meetings since my resignation, the last one I attended I received a phone call and had to leave early to sort out a problem.

That is the all point of asking for proxy voting, minutes of meetings passed to members etc.

Maybe the sup club need to experiment with meetings held at different times or dates? not just what suits 1 or 2 committee members.:)

If the minutes of a previous meeting are published then people will know whats happening.. if those and the agenda for next meeting are published then people might make an effort depending on the subject at hand.... just an idea:) some wont want to go about one thing but might make a special effort to attend about somehting else..

keeping everything secret just makes a mockery of the whole thing.. the "you should be there" line doesnt work... look how many members abroad? let alone as bottletop points out the people of accy who simply cant get there..

just what i was saying on positive sunday have news letter that all associated organisations can contribute to i.e. red and white weekends fanzines etc stick it in free papers to get delivered ..... then we can include all the community u never know might attract more people to come and watch stanley:p :) :) :) :engsmil:

In between world cup games I have just read 8 pages of utter shi te, what a thread , he said, she said, we need to do this, its all falling apart, is there any actual adults on here?
Heres how it sounds.............
1. Its not working
2. Close it
3. Start again, with new blood and younger committees.
4. Make it something everyone will want.
5. Free to join ( that means you have to work to make it work)
6. Have a brain storming session over a couple of pints.
If everyone wants this to work then get on the same page and it will succeed, you don't need anyone in charge to have a good discussion. Maybe even the idea of a committee is antiquated and it should be more of a collective, but the team has done so well I am sure the supporters don't want to be left behind. :)

your right. try and have a discussion here they hit you with negative and abusive karma and tell you your not wanted .i tried to have a positive sunday thread but they were not interested. couldnt even have a sympathy thread for norman mcredie thread without somebody putting smart comments. we are all supposed to be supporting the same club people are bound to hav disagreements but thats life its better to have a disagreement and resolve than just to go with the flow .

Walter, you post endless drivel and try to hijack serious threads with negative comments, unpunctuated chav speak, and general mischief making. That is why you get bad karma, nobody believes you if you try to join in with serious debate.

My suggestion would be to cancel your username and start again. Just keep it brief (no repeat posts one after another in the same thread), try to make it legible and making sense and above all think about what you are saying. You will be found out if your new username starts spouting crap (Jinxy).
