Friendly in Scotland
See fishy site.. friendly at Partick Thistle and on a saturday .. Had a fine old time last season at scotland friendly away to bluebells or whatever... ... nice trip accross the border this season .... far more appealing than away to Northwich vic..
Just looked and the ground seems to be in glasgow.. great stuff :) |
Re: Friendly in Scotland
I dont believe it, every single pre season friendly is while i`m away on holiday, i would have liked the trip to Partick Thistle, Oh well.

Re: Friendly in Scotland
The link on the Official site for Northwich Vics gives directions to Witton Albion ground so beware. Partick Thistle is near the Maryhill district of Glasgow - leave the M8 at junction 16 and it's only about a mile up the road on the right hand side. Last time I was there their supporters weren't very friendly, but I was supporting Hibs at the time.

Re: Friendly in Scotland
Some of the pubs up Maryhill Road are a bit rough as well. I was fine but I worry about Kipax.:D
There are some very friendly pubs near by on Great Western Road, or the city centre is only a mile or so away and it's fine there. Go thrash 'em.:) |

Re: Friendly in Scotland
I seriously don't believe the coincidence here, my Home Town club playing my adopted Town Club. Deffo got to get to this game!
Was born in Glasgow, and followed Partick as a lad, when all the other Kids were following Rangers. Wasn't that long ago they were in the SPL. Also, if you look down the history line, a left back by the name of Norman McCredie played for both clubs. I'm sure there are other players that have played for both Clubs, but I happened across this particular name after talking to his son in a pub. Never been to Firhill unforunately, so would really love to go to this match. Travel by train if needs must :D |
Re: Friendly in Scotland
also being a glasgow boy I have been to firhill many a time over the years when 'thistle' were in the spl and my team were in town, its not the best ground in the world by any standards and maryhill can be a bit rough to say the least.. although thistle fans are generally a friendly bunch and I am sure they will give you a good time..train from preston to glasgow central station, then jump a taxi to the ground from the station - will probably cost about £20 but it will be a black hackney so between 5 of you its only £4 a skull, cheap as chips and there in no time....and garinda is right about great western road..load of nice little pubs on it...and only about 6 mile from firhill park...and dont forget to leave your bank of england £20 notes at home as the dark and dingy little pubs in maryhill may refuse to take them due to forgeries...the same way as alot of shops & pubs down here wont take my bank of scotland notes when I return after a weekend in glasgow....its annoying as some of you may find out...should be a good do...I may be in glasgow that weekend and take the game in...free digs in glasgow and an afternoon of footy..sorted !!

Re: Friendly in Scotland
I remember all the little Rangers fans having some cheey song they used to sing, Jase will love it:
Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Cannae kick a jellybean, Rangers won the golden cup, Celtic won a rubber duck They're probably all Celtic fans now though :D I also think you'd struggle to kick a jellybean, so not really sure if thats an insult or not... |

Re: Friendly in Scotland
Accrington Stanley.. Who are they? ;)
The date for our game against you lot is schedulded for July 31 - A Monday  It hasn't been confirmed to take place at our stadium - New Bayview as the pitch isn't ready so you will might miss out on visiting Costa Del Methil  At the moment we are trying to oust our chairman from our club and we have staged protests since the start of the year to remove him and a lot of us have boycotted home matches since this time, but fingers crossed he will be gone by the start of the season. You should enjoy your trip up here though, we're a friendly bunch :not_ripe: |

Re: Friendly in Scotland
Fifer, if the match goes ahead where can we get the frendliest welcome for a bevvy sesh then prior/after the match??
|
Re: Friendly in Scotland
If it does take place in Methil, most of the home fans go to East Dock Bar in Methil High Street or Wellesley Inn which is owned by an East Fife fan or failing that the Social Club within the ground. But you will be ok wherever you drink.
