Alsager away

Non-League paper says there is a pre-season friendly: Alsager Town v Accrington Stanley on Wed 12 July. Is this the first team or Stanley reserves?

See http://www.alsagertown.co.uk/. Near Crewe, not far from M6 J16, just finished 3rd in NWCFL and promoted to Unibond 1 (remember that?). We played them in a friendly a couple of seasons ago. They've recently suffered damage from a break in so this may be a friendly gesture from Coley to help them out.

As far as I am aware, this is a benefit match for John Brown, who is a friend of Coley's. He used to play at Ashton when John was there I think, and ended his career at Alsager Town, where he played his final game at the end of last season. This was a good season for The Bullets, who might well have finished runners up to Cammell Laird but for losing three games in the closing stages, and have now been promoted to the Unibond League.

Alsager Town have lost equipment worth between £3500 and £4000 in a series of break-ins since Christmas, which is a great shame as they are a really friendly little club who can hardly afford losses on this scale. Any Stanley fans who can get down there for the match would be very welcome, I am certain, and I am going to try to get there for this event, even though it is midweek.

I should also add that all proceeds from this benefit match are going to the Donna Louise Trust, for children who are terminally ill.

Just read about this on alsager site.. seems in 6 days time we are playing a charity game there.. for a good cause... I wonder when stanley fans get told ?

There's more on Alsager's site: http://alsagertown.proboards12.com/i...ead=1151570441. I believe Coley's taking a mixed side and that there'll be something on the fishy site soon.

Re: Alsager away

What I mean is.. its for charity.. surely they want more people there? and if its all been set weeks ago.. why havent we been told when theres now only a few days left.. seems a bit strange to keep it from the stanley fans.

Re: Alsager away

No, because you would basically expect it to be on your own clubs official site, but obviously not ....

Agrees on .... ? that all the latest stanley news should be posted on the official website before bieng broadcasted here ... ? yeah, i agree with that :D

Re: Alsager away

ABSOLOUTLY! and somehting I ahve been trying to convince the club of for years... I ahte reading things on here or other websites or the observer before reading it on the fishy site... Its somehting I have a dig at the club about a lot.. especially at rob.... but i never seem to make much headway .... it should be on the fishy site FIRST or at the same time as other places

DanTheMonkey 07-07-2006 10:22

Re: Alsager away

Agreed. Maybe something should be said to the club, i mean, why have an official site if it is inactive and nearly last to know all the latest news ... ?

Re: Alsager away

sorry, haven't been much involved in this, will chase it up this afternoon and get the full story...

Re: Alsager away

Also, i know its off topic, but when actually is Elliot expected to sign
As he is under contract at another club, he cant be played as a trialist/free agent tommorow, which also leaves another problem of who we would play between the sticks ...

Any clue rob ?
