….THE <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City><st1:place>Stanley</st1:place></st1:City> Ultras were formed by a group of like-minded <st1:City><st1:place>Stanley</st1:place></st1:City> fans who were passionate and committed to increasing the atmosphere at <st1:place>Accrington</st1:place><st1:City><st1:place>Stanley</st1:place></st1:City> both home and away. We believe that our support, for a club our size, is second to none and ‘The Ultras’ will only improve this in the long term. By supporting <st1:City><st1:place>Stanley</st1:place></st1:City> with large, colourful flags and banners, and travelling in numbers it is hoped that we can make a difference. It can be hard to follow a lower league club at times but we do it because we love our club. Also, we all know what happened to the club in 1962, so it is vitally important that we, the fans, continue to do our bit. On <st1:City><st1:place>Stanley</st1:place></st1:City> On.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
On the 5th August of this year there will be a monumental moment in Hyndburn sporting history. This is the day that League Football returns to <st1:place>Accrington</st1:place> for the first team in over 44 years<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
In 1962 football in <st1:place>Accrington</st1:place> ceased because of the apathy displayed by the people of <st1:place>Accrington</st1:place> towards their team. The club folded due to a lack of support and crippling debts. The modern day team have no debts whatsoever and under the guidance of Eric Whalley will continue to trade in a solvent fashion. However, the support still needs to increase in order to sustain League football in the town. The Ultras are determined that we should get around town and do all we can to get people to the ground. This is where you, the local businesses come in. We all know that the feelgood factor associated with sporting success has knock-on benefits to the local economy in many different guises. We want to include everybody in our recruitment drive and have devised Red and White Fortnight to raise the profile of our club.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
From the 22nd July through to the 5th August we want every shop possible in the town to display some element of <st1:City><st1:place>Stanley</st1:place></st1:City> support in their shop. We want to see the whole town decked out in the Red and Whitery of Stanley. We want the whole of <st1:place>East Lancashire</st1:place> to see that we are alive and well and that we are proud to say that we support Accrington Stanley.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Your display could be in the form of a window display, a flag or scarf behind the counter, allowing your staff to wear an <st1:place>Accrington</st1:place> shirt on Saturdays, or even just a good luck poster on the door. You needn’t spend a lot on your display, a dozen red and white balloons cost just pence. You may have an <st1:place>Accrington</st1:place> fan amongst your staff who could bring in their scarf or shirt. The sky is the limit on what can be achieved with just a little bit of thought and creativity.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Of course, there is always the matter of incentive. Accrington Stanley Football Club have offered a prize of four tickets to the Gazelle Lounge to a Nationwide League 2 game this season. The Gazelle Lounge is a hospitality suite that includes complimentary drinks, half time buffet, programme and reserved seating. This is always a popular option amongst the sponsors.<o:p></o:p>
The business premise that has the most eye-catching display in town will receive this prize as well as getting free publicity through the Official Matchday Programme and the supporters fanzine ‘No F in roof’.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
We are also going to have mainstream media behind our drive, with the two local newspapers getting involved and we are also talking to the major local radio stations in an effort to really drive this promotion.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
www.accringtonstanley.co.uk contains any information you may require about the club, sponsorship and The Gazelle Lounge. It also contains a poster under the banner for the next game. It would be a great help if you could print one off for our home matches and display them in a window.<o:p></o:p>

If you can read beyond all the codey type stuff in the above post, that is a copy of the letter that will accompanying the Burnley match poster for us to give out to as many shops and pubs as possible on saturday.

The meet will outside the Market Hall at 9:30. I will probably be at the Burger stall. Please wear red and white as that is the whole point.

If anybody wants a copy to run some off for their local shops (Ossy,Clayton, Bash, Huncoat, Harwood and Rishton all unaccounted for as yet, as well as any number of local shops and pubs) the please PM me with their E-mail and I will send it you.

Does anybody know how to clean it up to put on General Chat?

With the original document, you could try to copy all the text into Notepad, that will remove all the office formatting and code. Then copy and paste from Notepad to post on the forum.
That also goes for all documents that are done in Word or similar, as the office code causes many problems with web pages.

THE Ultras were formed by a group of like-minded fans who were passionate and committed to increasing the atmosphere at Accrington both home and away. Re: Saturdays' recruitment drive

a big thank you to those that turned up this morning. It only took us about an hour and a half to blitz the town centre. Many posters were being put on doors before we had even closed them!

Everybody has had a letter detailing red and white fortnight and when the media get hold of it this week it will reinforce what they have already been told.

To anybody that didn't turn up but wants to get involved still, just print a poster off, print off the text in previous messages and take it to you local newsagents, fag shop, post office, barbers, pub or workplace.

The whole idea is for Stnaley to be in your face at least until the season starts proper. The more posters we get up the better.

I heard through Mystic Meg that todays attendance was going to be about 800. So anything above that we have done (I wish).

oh yeah, and other than us I counted four Stanley shirts in town this morning.

and about 20 stanley fans

Re: Saturdays' recruitment drive

Good effort, I see quite a few in Stanley shirts when I was down - most hanging round the burger van :)
See quite a few of the posters are being displayed, i'm gonna print a few off for every match and put them on the notice boards inside the town hall and market hall entrances. Do you just pin your own up in these places or do you have to see someone, anyone know?

that was us earning our dinner.

Thanks for the posters KSH, they look really professional.

As far as sticking up your own are concerned I think the etiquette (hark at me with big words on a weekend) is that if their is a notice board you can stick your own up, if there ain't then you can't.

Just printed the Blackburn poster to stick in my car before I go to the match today

Are you really stupid or do you just pretend to be that way to wind people up? It's there for all to see in black-and-white, "We want to include EVERYBODY in our recruitment drive" or is that too difficult for you to understand?

Obviously, nobody takes you seriously but what really annoys me is the nom-de-plume you have chosen to use. Walter Galbraith was one of the most successful managers in our history, an intelligent man and, by all accounts, a gentleman. To blight his memory, even by association, by using his name to post the utter drivel you choose to inflict on us makes me sad...very sad.

Doug 09-07-2006 20:00

Re: Saturdays' recruitment drive

Without offence the answer is quite simple it’s about getting bums in seats and getting Accrington behind its team. It’s promoting what Accrington Stanley as done for its town and about what the ultras do for its team. If you want to join the ultras, just get in there and give it your all, simple Answer.

Ksh, I’ve been displaying a Blackpool poster in the car around Blackpool for the last few weeks. Nice Job. Trying to seek them into the Stadium as well.

Just a note. The Shop have a number of magnetic Stanley Crests which look good when displayed with the posters, worth a plug, They are expensive but well worth it in my opinion. I have had one on the boot of the car for the last two weeks including at Saturdays game against Burnley, to everyone’s credit it was still on the car when I got home…

walter galbraith is! the most successful manager in the history of accrington stanley and if you want to take everything the wrong way you must be off your rocker .somebody asked me to ask and i did is that a crime why cant everybody be as sensible as the person above.........ill be waiting for my negative karma............

oh plus the personal threats through my private messages and if you think im stirring it ask the moderators theyll have the proof

Wynonie Harris 09-07-2006 21:22

Re: Saturdays' recruitment drive

I've never given any bad karma to anybody and I've certainly never issued any personal threats, so I hope you're not accusing me.

The fact remains that it wasn't a genuine question, it was a sneaky little dig at the people who organised the whole thing. But then again, sneaky little comments are your speciality, aren't they? A few weeks ago you commented about "people jumping on the bandwagon for personal gain". When challenged about it, you chose to ignore it, because facts aren't your forte; instead you deal in inneudos. And if you think Walter Galbraith was our best manager ever, please stop using his name to post your rubbish on this site.

KIPAX 09-07-2006 21:26

Re: Saturdays' recruitment drive

i read it as a dig as well to be honest... or should I say...another dig at the ultras.. I may be wrong.. I have been known to be wrong a couple of times a day :) ... but to be honest thats how it read..

Re: Saturdays' recruitment drive

Wow for some one who spouts crap and has no clue whats going on, also pees off 99% of this board you seem worried about a bit of Karma.
Why not crawl back under the stone you appeared from and let the Ultras and the supporters club do the best they can for this club.
I think Kipax was nice to think he was wrong as it is with out doubt a dig at the people trying to make vast improvments for this beloved club, why did the people ask you and not come on here themselves, are you the only one in the "chip on your sholder club" that has a computer?

:engsmil: having only started watching asfc last season i have been doing my research into asfc history and surely the most succesfull manager in asfc history is john coleman, in 7 years in charge he has won 3 championships, peter swales trophy (twice) and marsden cup (twice i think) and has taken asfc into the FOOTBALL LEAGUE,
i believe walter galbraith was a very popular 50,s manager but not as successfull as jc, so to MR WALTER GALBRAITH i say as a new supporter give the ultra,s the credit they deserve and either PUT UP OR SHUT UP, as you post drivel, and i am not a kid i am a 43 year old female civil servant who enjoys the flags and the banter etc :engsmil:

With regards to WG and his question I too like Kipax think it was a dig at the Ultra's, who it seems are just trying to get the people of Accrington and surronding area to become intrested in following ASFC.

Had he read the thread from the start he (and I'm assuming that this member is male) would have seen that the question had been answered before it was even thought of ie opening statement of this thread!!!!!

While I can not actively join the ultra's I do hope that their hardwork is rewarded with the gates increasing at the Ground and that ASFC go from strength to strength.

Howevere that does not mean I cant put up a poster (or tow)
