Opening Shot
On Tuesday the 8th August 2006 “The Club That Wouldn’t Die” will play it first home game in 44 years as a League club.
I personally would like to see this occasion made more memorable than ever. How we do this I don’t know, but I feel that something should be done to celebrate this fact and to commemorate the lasting memory those players, fans, officials and absent friends who weren’t able to witness the achievement of their successors. This is not to be seen as a wake or a moment of solitude. But a celebration of a fantastic achievement that began as a dream 44 years ago. What do people think? What would make Tuesday the 8th August special and memorable for you? Apart from thrashing Darlington within an inch of there lives. For me I like to see Accrington pay tribute to its club by filling every space in the ground. I’d liked the Accrington Pipe Band march on ahead of Accrington Stanley playing Amazing Grace. I would like to see the Ultras proud and steadfast with flags unfurled and raised high in each corner of the ground and the stands ablaze of pride and colour. These are just drunken thoughts, but I would love the reality to be even better. Let yourselves go and let’s see if some comes out of it. |
Re: Opening Shot

Re: Opening Shot
Hmmmm.... a colour display - definatley
But a brass band coud be a bit far, i mean, do you have permission to allow them to go on the pitch ? |
Re: Opening Shot
Well said Doug, I never thought I would see the day dawn, that the beloved Reds would once again be part of the Football League. It would be nice to commemorate the occasion with something very special. How about the biggest display of Flags ever seen, Jason?

Re: Opening Shot
Doug I like the idea but this is one exiled Accy lad that cant be there in person but will be in spirit. As a consolation though I will be around for the Bburn one.

Re: Opening Shot
Just an idea .....
It had crossed my mind that it would close the circle nicely to meet up at Peel Park and have a procession through the town centre then up to the FES - but I was assuming the first home game would be on a Saturday, not sure it would work on a Tuesday evening. Also as I've not been in Accy for the best part of 30 years, I may be underestimating how long it might take ! :rose8: Play Up Stanley - Stanley Play Up :rose8: |

Re: Opening Shot
Well, I'm getting all misty eyed after reading that.
Should be a fantastic occasion whatever the result, and I'm sure Darlington fans are looking forward to it as much as you are. Whats the capacity for the away end? Is it likely to be reduced, because I was just thinking there may be a high demand for home tickets? Darlington isn't exactly walking distance and it is also on a Tuesday night, but I'd still expect us to bring around 500. |
Re: Opening Shot
there will be room for you all. I think around 1200 would be the usual allocation.
I like the procession idea Chimer but like you said tuesday would scupper that. Not enough people etc. Maybe a convoy would be a better idea? Flags out the window horns blaring, the drummer playing for the only time at home this season, as many foot soldiers as can be arsed to make it and driving at walking pace. 15 minutes tops |
Re: Opening Shot
Is the first home game all ticket ?
I was thinking about popping down to watch. |
Re: Opening Shot
nowt been said yet. See if you can bring a bigger flag than we took to your gaffe
