Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
Steve Jones was the big difference today (23 for them). Everything that went to him resulted in something. They kept possession really well in the second half, Cav had a good battle with their leftie but wasted the ball on the occasions that he won it. NOthing happened for us up front in the 2nd half but in the first half Roberts was excellent (got sponsors M.O.M) and Mangan was good as well. He seemed to be a lot more aware of what was around him than last seasons head down and run charges. Sean The Doc looked good as well in t'second half. A good number of excellent challenges in the second half as well. Elliot played the first half and was commanding as usual. Fearo played the second half and showed some good distribution but was at fault for the first two goals IMHO. Good save from a free kick but wasn't up quick enough to close down for the rebound. Second goal could have come out a bit quicker. In saying that the defence were given the run around from a good forward line and left him a little exposed. The third goal was a wonderful free kick that would have beaten many a more experienced keeper.
Summary Stanley Reserves 2 Burnley reserves 0 in the first half Stanley 1st XI 0 Burnley 1st XI 3 in the second half. That Burnley first team fully deserved to beat us and would have won by a landslide if they had played the whole game, but as far as strength in depth is concerned, its no wonder they aren't having a reserve team this year. But it was the first game back. |
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
I would totally agree with the gentleman in the black bra. Overall a good afternoon, Nice to be back.

Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
Don't know which match you was watching Maccawozzagod, but from where I was sitting both Rocky and Cav looked a yard slow, Sean never got a decent pass throughout the whole of the 2nd half to show us what he is made of, although when he did run at defenders with the ball, he frightened the hell out of them. In the first half, Stanley's no 6 and 10 looked half decent and certainly worth another look at, also the no 15 in the second half looked a possible useful partner for PM when he gets back.Liked the way Sean and Andy swapped sides during the second half, but for some reason, we don't like playing the ball out to the left winger whoever it may be (recall something similar couple of seasons ago with McEvilly and Rory - led to bad blood between them.Julian N'da looked decent in defence. I don't think you can blame Martin for 2 of the goals either. the 2 free kicks were perlers, but with the first, where were the defence to back him up when it came out off the bar/post, the Burnley player had a free header! To me, that second half was worrying, however, only time will tell. Thought the crowd was a few more that 1700 as well (like 1,000 more). I would suggest the Blackburn match is fully segregated to stop incidences like we had today. It is no good stating that the ground is now segregated half way through the first half, when no-one could get to the bar. This is what caused the problem. Would also suggest full height gates at the Clayton end of the main stand otherwise Stewards are going to get thumped/abused on a regular basis. All in all a good day and a useful exercise spoiled by one or two nerds in Burnley shirts.

Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
your summary is similar to mine Ozzy, I weren't gonna comment on physical fitness though as the point of these matches is to regain it.
|
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
I dont know what match he was watching either... had he turned his head slightly to one side he would have seen Fearon watching the game not ten yards from him.... Bit harsh blaming him for two goals :)

Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
What was the trouble with the Clarrot knuckle draggers all about?...nothing serious I hope.

Looks like the only folk 'putting the boot in' were the usual suspects!
How many did they bring? |
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
Theres no official figure, as there was no segregation. CVhrist knows why, we should pen them in the cow shed next time we play 'em. Can't be trusted..

also i wouldnt be surprised if some dingles turn up for our game its been discussed on our forums that no segregation is quite silly looks like it was a good game today though, plenty of goals |
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
It was Burnley hols though the attendance was down on both sides really certainly compared to last year, altho the attitude was certainly that it was a friendly.
As for the hooliganism suggested yeh a couple in Burnley shirts was involved in a scuffle with security simply stupid fault of tannoy announcing segregation into last 5mins of 1st half which i think they were meaning to stop movement till half is over not to acually segregate stupid really to announce it once deed was done & all stands were virtually mixed - even the stewards were bemused with the announcement:rolleyes: other than that little bit no further trouble & back to the normality of friendly match:D Ps glad to finally hear the tannoy, least we have a decent system than before:rolleyes: |

Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
I think you are a little harsh there in all fairness Aaron made a fantastic save just a couple of secs before the 1st goal, he's only an inexperienced youngster guarding net against championship players!!!!
Hard to completely judge someone on 45mins in all fairness. |

Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
What Slater Scott was in no way arrogant.I doubt his non quoted dream will blow up in his face, indeed I wonder what his dream this actually is, as he does not mention one in his post. Blackburn a second Div club really, that's also a meaningless statement now as 2nd div club is open to much interpretation. Stanley to play Rovers an Burnley in the league before you die, well as long as you are Dr Who, maybe.
And as for Blackburns following, well wait and see . Wait and see. Bitter-yes you are. |
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
What dream!!? 2nd division club? What the hell does that mean these days? Stanley to play Burnley and Rovers in the league in next 40 years? Ha! OK!
And as for the Rovers following, wait and see, just wait and see. Like the murphys, you're not bitter! |

Oh, and for the record, you're posts came across as arrogant as well. Blackburn fans, eh? Just can't help yourselves.
Just keep looking down your nose, 'cos we'll get the last laugh. Might take a years, but we'll get the last laugh. |

Don't get me wrong - can't stand Rovers/their fans...the boring sods that be.
But we can't really use Jack Walker's injection of money as an insult. Albeit; his money only fuelled one season of success ...& Kevin Davies :laugh8::rofl38: Eric's money has fuelled over 10 years & counting of ongoing success :D |
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
You do know Jack Walker died 6 years ago? And with it any significant instant cash injections for players?

Diesel I didn't intend to compare Whalley to Walker - I was saying that we can't use Walker's vast cash injection as an insult to Rovers when Eric's money (aswell as good business) has played an integral part in our resurrection. :) Anyway, why argue; Rovers are going nowhere...the intertoto cup will be their only annual holidays for decades to come :D Honestly; I don't know how you blues don't suffer chronic boredom from it all! |
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
Bloody hell Diesel whats the problem?
Who's looking down at,taking the mickey out of Stanley?......Rovers fans are glad to see you back in the league and many will go and support you when Rovers are away down south. Whats with having a pop at our support and Walkers money? Strange. ''we will bring more than what the attendence was today'' In all honesty he may well be right but that is in no way meant to be arrogant...it will only benefit the coffers of Stanley. It will be a good evening and we should all be looking forward to it.:Banane25: |
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
Eric has helped the club to become self-sustainable. He is by no means dipping into his own pocket all the time, as some of you suggest. He puts as much enthusiasm and passion into the club as he does money. And it's a sorry state of affairs if any club has to be dependant on a rich backer to keep going.

So, according to Ozz, either Stanley have no chance of progressing further, which in my book, is looking down his nose at us. Or he thinks that Blackburn are so big, they'll never go down (Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, West Ham anybody?), which in my book, is arrogance. I try not to tar you all with the same brush, but it is quite bloody difficult with pillocks like that. Why exactly does he think we won't play Burnley or Blackburn? Maybe he'd like to explain...? Blackburn, fair enough, have a much larger town and bigger catchment area than us, but Burnley certainly don't, and they're in the Championship! So why can't we go as far as Burnley? At the end of the day, I am of the personal opinion we'll play both Clubs in League matches one day. I'm also of the personal opinion that Blackburn fans are snooty and arrogant, and Burnley fans are thick idiots who can't handle their drink. |
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
Rob has fequently said he believs Accrington could sustain a decent Championship team, and he's right. Look at the likes of Rotherham and Crewe. They lived the dream, and as a club we've got far more potential then they ever did. And just for the Rovers/Burnley fans we have no debt and we own our own stadium.;)
|
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
Do we actually own the Stadium Alvin? I'm not 100% on the business side of the Club, sure somebody will enlighten me though
|
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
I think so. Not like Burnley who have to sell theirs and then lease it back.
PS: Anyone else notice the IES sign was still up? |
Re: Stanley v Burnley - Commentary on 2BR
I really hope Stanley do well, an was genuinely chuffed to see them get back in the league. I get the feeling that you feel the same way about Rovers, that Rovers feel about Chelsea, Liverpool, United etc. Their arrogance and snootiness gets on Rovers fans nerves just as we do to you.
We all have our chips on our shoulders to bear.;) |

As much as I hate to drag this back to the topic of the thread, did anyone listen to the coverage?
I'm after some feedback (good or bad; it doesn't matter. Will help me learn for next time I get the opportunity) If you listened, your comments would be welcome. |

The clubs history tells us all steady progress and a healthy cash flow is much better than boom and bust. Give us a green to Bayer !! :D |
