I don’t think this has anything at all to do with the law, but I’ll give you a lawyer's view just the same.

A Football Club is not a legal entity, it’s a concept indicating a common purpose among the interested, and the Football Club can be run by any kind of legal entity, and as Jeff points out, the identity of that legal entity can change without change to the Football Club’s identity. A club is a legal entity, and of course so is a limited company. We know the Football Clubs as such, because most clubs were clubs to start with, but no professional football clubs are run by clubs anymore. Nottm Forest </ST1:pwere the last to form themselves into a limited company, I believe, in 1982.
Accrington Stanley were run by or as, a club 1891-<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com[IMG] /><st1:PlaceName w:st=[/IMG]Nottingham</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st=" /><st1:metricconverter w:st="on" ProductID="1907, a">1907, a</st1:metricconverter> limited company 1907-<st1:metricconverter w:st="on" ProductID="1917, a">1917, a</st1:metricconverter> club again 1919-1921, then a limited company from autumn 1921 to Jan 1964, then again as a club until Jan 1966, and a limited company from 1968.

Different companies, same club sounds good to me .... good luck to the present company, but the club's the thing with the heart.

"The company that wouldn't die" lacks a certain something, doesn't it ?
