Non League Closure

to mark the passing of our non-league status and our return to club of 92 Chimer posted this idea

Quote:

Just an idea .....

It had crossed my mind that it would close the circle nicely to meet up at Peel Park and have a procession through the town centre then up to the FES - but I was assuming the first home game would be on a Saturday, not sure it would work on a Tuesday evening.

Also as I've not been in Accy for the best part of 30 years, I may be underestimating how long it might take !

the idea is a good one and we are planning to do it. At the moment the plan is to meet around 6:45 at Peel Park. We will set off shortly afterwards. We hope to have a convoy of cars and foot pedestrians with flags, air horns, THE DRUMS, and anything that displays your passion and enthusiasm for Stanley. We are hoping to have the Angels with us, and I think somebody was talking to the pipe band.

As part of Red and White Fortnight this will get plenty of publicity from The Bee, 2BR, Rock FM, Lancashire Telegraph and the Observer.

All are welcome and absolutely definitely the more the merrier.

If you wish to take part in this buthave difficulty walking and do not have transport PM me and I will try to find somebody who can include you in their section of the convoy.

This is not going to be like a carnival where we meander through the streets. We will be taking the most direct route to the ground possible along Alice St, Thorneyholme Road and Ribblesdale. This will also mean the least possible disruption to traffic.

10 cars or less is not worth doing. 20 cars with walkers would be okay but still a disgrace considering the reason why. Over 30 cars with flags and noise and a Pipe Band and dancing girls would be a moment to behold.

Maybe a vicar to recite some prayers and bless the team before we leave?

Procession fingy...I think you need to contact the police if you havent already...

maccawozzagod 21-07-2006 21:58

Re: Non League Closure

Yeah it crossed my mind, gonna get on it tomorrow.

Although advertising it and then having the police pull it would create twice the exposure and an uproar..............

100% on it tommoz.. let us know what they say... and fingers crossed :)

What about the plane? like the pride of lancashire stunt, who organised this and what did it cost any ideas? I'm willing to chip in to get it flying round for an hour before the game

What about the plane?

I believe Willie Miller organised it. cost was about 600quid, 10 of the ultras paid 60quid each.

Saw one last week going round over cackburn it read "mumtaz halal baby food"

Re: Non League Closure

I’ll bang in a tenner for the plane “Small Donation but it can be increased if people don’t stick enough in”

I’ll drive in the procession, and I’ll be on my todd so three seats are vacant (No Drinks and No Smokers and No Food) in the car.

Re: Non League Closure

been to the local poilice station who have told me to put my request in writing detailing who what why when where and how many>?

Doing that now but how many should I say?

Re: Non League Closure

Although the idea is a brilliant one, have you got time to organise such a parade of fans. I for one cannot do the Tuesday night, although I will be at the match, but unless I can finish work about an hour earlier, then I cannot do the parade. Police are notoriously slow in getting things arranged, although I think it will only be the lights at the end of Alice St and onto Queens Road plus the turning onto Thorneyholme that will need to be policed, but be prepared to pay for the services.

Re: Non League Closure

we'll see what they say first and then do an impromptu one anyway

A processon of milk floats might add to the occassion,it would certanly be eye catching and those less able to walk could ride on them.

I hope you have better luck than us, we can't even play a bloody football match at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon in Shrewsbury, because of the coppers.

Bringing back to top ... are we going ahead with this procession / amble on Tuesday, with or without approval ?

Re: Non League Closure

Have you had a word with Sue,the landlady at the Peel Park? She might appreciate a bit of notice if you are descending for a pre-procession pint;she only usually has 1 person behind the bar at that time of day!

spud 03-08-2006 20:29

Re: Non League Closure

Having spoken to maccawasagod yesterday, he has told me that THE POLICE HAVE GIVEN THE PROCESSION THE GOAHEAD.

They don't think it will disrupt the traffic any more than a usual match day.

Good luck people any mass in your numbers.:engsmil:

I'll be making sure 25 lads from the Ultras are....

Doug 04-08-2006 18:31

Re: Non League Closure

All being well I will be walking, driving if the weather is very bad. I’ll have 3-4 seats for anyone who is in need i.e. the elderly or disabled first, then anyone else.

If we’re walking I’d appreciate a lift from the ground to Peel Park.

Can someone confirm the details, time of meeting? If we’re have a pint before leaving? Start time etc.

KIPAX 04-08-2006 18:33

Re: Non League Closure

6.45 from peel park ... is that the pub or the school or what?

also has the band and stanley angels and all the other stuff been organised as stated in first post.

Re: Non League Closure

I know we have a couple of days before the game but it would be helpful if we can establish if we’re walking or not.

Questions.

Time we’re meeting up?
Where are we meeting?
Are we having a pint or two before the off, if so where?
What time are we starting off for the FES?
And is any one going to give me a lift from the FES to Peel Park?

K.S.H 05-08-2006 20:56

Re: Non League Closure

I believe its 6:45 from Peel park Doug, I will be parking at FES then walking to peel Park, having a pint in the peel park before I set off.
Prob set off from FES about 5:45
If the weathers not good though I will be going in the car
edit - maybe we could share a taxi FES to peel park

Doug 05-08-2006 21:06

Re: Non League Closure

Cheers Ksh. I should be fit for the walk both ways if the weather holds up. I should get in town for about 5.30. Happy to get a cab if it’s raining, I’m also happy to take the car if anyone wants to do the trip but is unable to walk the distance. Looking forward to seeing people and being able to put names to faces, can’t wait to have a pint in the Peel Park, hoping that its going to be a step back into history.

maccawozzagod 05-08-2006 22:09

Re: Non League Closure

cheers for posting confirmation Spud.

yep, details here are correct. I'll ring the Peel Park and let them know to put another staffie on. I'll prob be in about 6 for a swiftie (2).

I'd like to see a good number of people on foot and in cars. Cars cos they are noisy and on foot cos that is the presence and flag waving.

As far as I know there has been no contact with the Angels or the Pipe Band.

If you are in a car, could you have your scarf wound into the window.

The police are not closing any roads for us so we will have to wait on Penny House lane for the convoy to catch up as we cross Burnley Road.

Have we got drums Diesel?

Newspapers e-mailed.

2BR, 107 The Bee, Rock FM e-mailed

Radio Lancs never got back to me about Red and White Fortnight but JT has an in with them so will you speak to them John?

Could this go onto the Fishy site?

John Coleman did his bit as well on the Radio 2 interview, well done JC.

Lancs Telegraph will have it on page 3 tomorrow and Rock FM will be mentioning it on morning news broadcasts and teatime DRivetime show.

Re: Non League Closure

There is a mention in the LET (page 14) about the procession, it says we're leaving the Peel Park at 7 o'clock. Me & my two lads will try and be at the pub, if not we'll join in at Pennyhouse Lane if that's OK

maccawozzagod 07-08-2006 16:48

Re: Non League Closure

2BR will now be featuring it on their news bulletins all morning (plus a little interview). Cheers Dan

have you put a poster in the peel park pub

maccawozzagod 07-08-2006 17:52

Re: Non League Closure

no, but they have been warned. Didn't think of advertising there. But, as it will be in the paper, and on radio all day tomorrow, and that all the webbers know about it, and that word was put about on saturday, I think that most bases were covered anyways.

Keep the ideas coming though.
