Good Idea Diesel! I am away on holiday from Monday for 2 weeks, but will be back in time for our first home league match. Whatever is the ultimate choice - I will play it at the Darlington Match.

Diesel 23-07-2006 22:23

Re: Music to Run Out To

I honestly can't believe that this;

Guess who just got back today?

Those wild-eyed boys that had been away
Haven't changed, haven't much to say
But man, I still think those cats are great
They were asking if you were around
How you was, where you could be found
I told them you were living downtown
Driving all the old men crazy

The boys are back in town

You know the chick that used to dance a lot
Every night she'd be on the floor shaking what she'd got
Man when I tell you she was cool, she was red hot
I mean she was steaming
That night over at Johnny's place
Well this chick got up and she slapped Johnny's face
Man we just fell about the place
If that chick don't want to know, forget her
Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Dino's bar and grill
The drink will flow and blood will spill
If the boys want to fight, you'd better let them
That jukebox in the corner blasting out my favorite song
The nights are getting warmer, it won't be long
It won't be long till summer comes
Now that the boys are here again

The boys are back in town

is even competing against this;

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run whew the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are to weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest, to follow the star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right, without question or pause
To be willing to pass into hell for a heavenly cause
And I know, if I'll only be true to the glorious quest

That my heart lies peaceful and calm
When IÕm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last once of courage
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest, to follow the star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right , without question or pause

And to dream the impossible dream
The impossible dream
The impossible dream
The impossible

Anybody that hasn't yet voted, I urge you to consider exactly what you're voting for. Yes, Thin Lizzy is much more upbeat than Carter USM, but The Impossible Dream epitomises everything this Club and it's fans have been through, both past and present.

The Carter song is too slow and quiet and is not the sort of tune to get the fans going but then again neither is "The boys are back in town", vote Tenpole Tudor.

shakermaker 24-07-2006 20:19

Re: Music to Run Out To

It's not 'taste' if everyone goes along with the same suggestion, Diesel :)

Would go for Town Called Malice or possibly Time For Heroes by The Libs over any of the above suggested, but of that selection I would probably say Impossible Dream.

Re: Music to Run Out To

if Tannoy man gets all fancy with some editing then anyhting will sound good. I agree that Impossible Dream is slow if we played it all the way through. But if we get an edited version can become a terrace favourite. And, it is the story of Accrington Stanley. One day it will be on Broadway. And I mean Broadway New York.

As I've said a few times, it's not how it sounds, it's what the song is about. I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles and You'll Never Walk Alone are both real Crooner songs, but those get the crowd going, just a little, don't they?

Or play it a few minutes before kick-off, as it sounds really great a minute and a half or so towards the end of the song, the players running out just as he sings "And the world, will be better for this" would be absolutely quality!

Thats a little pedantic....the reason I opted for that song, is because I don't want a rock or pop song I can listen to whilst chatting to my mates, I want a song I can sing along to, with some pride and passion. The Impossible Dream has exactly those sorts of lyrics, in my opinon. Funnily enough though, I don't imagine too many people are gonna want to sing along to Thin Lizzy or Kaiser Chiefs, let alone sing it with pride and passion. Unfortunately, it's not looking too good for Carter USM, but at least I fought their corner, with a decent argument, rather than "Oh, it's too slow!", like we're talking about motorsports or something.

Oh well, Rob, looks like it'll be you, me, Jase and Spud singing it, drunkenly, in some middle of nowhere football clubs Supporters Club, frightening the regulars :D

Re: Music to Run Out To

The Impossible Dream was composed by Mitch Leigh with lyrics by Joe Darion for the hit show Man of La Mancha - which was based on Miguel De Cervantes novel Don Quixote. In this song Don Quixote expresses his intention to battle all odds to achieve his goal. It is widely reckoned to be an anthem for Optimists in an age of rampant cynicism.
So it says on my cd of that well known british east Accrington songstress, Lesley Garrett . Yeah yeah - I know the locals insist on calling that area of the parish yorkshire !
