If I was Coley now (or Mike Bassett eh ukcowboy :D) I'd take off Craney & stick Mangy upfront with Mullers - switch to the 4-4-effin'-2.
It's the only way I can see us getting anything out of this game now.
Counter attack & exploit the full backs instead of channelling everything through the middle.

Got to agree with you there Shaker, we really need to be pressing them, from the sounds of it Lincons defence is not the best.

Mind you perhaps Coley can persuade thr Ref to stay in the dressingroom for the second half!!:p :p

you probably dont care what i think lol but i have some points.
1. your team were poor for the first half today but played well second half with some good proper passing football and you got me nervous at 2-0
2. you wont set the league on fire this season but you deffinately have what it takes to stay up and there is alot of potential there for next season.
3. yes it was offside but we were denied a blatent peno. but hey thats football.
4. your turn out was VERY poor but of the loyal fans that made the long journey you did your club proud and outsung us at times and there was 4800 of us miserable bar stewards.
5. I hope we wont be playing you next season but only cos were going up :not_ripe: keep believing.

Just got back 2am (Didn't leave lincoln until 11.30 ish) Great place.. had a walk round center and a nice meal in witherspoons (RITZ) .. nice friendly club with helpfull staff etc.. everyhting great.... bar the football :(

Quietest support ever, and a worse drummer than Matt. Poor result, but a couple of players looked so much better today. Gary Roberts was a star today, Mangan lookwed cracking when he came on. Mullin looked anonymous, although I'd put that more down to tactics than Mullin himself. Todd was hi usual cracking self, as was Harris. Craney played well in patches, but was mostly poor. Our defense looked terrible today..

Oh, on a side note, nice to get a few compliments about our style of play from a few fans outside the ground. Just a shame that hoofing the ball down the pitch seemsto be more effective.

I live in Lincoln, but was born in Rawtenstall so last night I did the right thing and sat in the away end. Thought that the Stanley fans were superb, an absolute credit. Out-sang the Imps all ends up. The football was encouraging. Definately have enough for League 2.
My Dad lives in Haslingden so I'm going to do some home matches this season as well.

As an exiled Imp supporter being on holiday this week, I took the opertunity to travel from from West Yorkshire to see the Imps play -- partly because I was a mere toddler when Stanley were last a league club and it would be an oppertunity to add another team to my list.

Whilst not claiming to being a totally objective and unbaised view, I'm not a Imps supporter who see's the teams performances through rose tinted glasses. However, I thought it worth passing on few observations and thoughts.

Given the amount possession Stanley had during the course the game last night to come away with nothing was a sad indictment of "your" inability to finish which was quite abysmal. If this is a wider problem, which looking at the 'goals for' column it might be -- also given that Lincoln patently do not have the best of defences in the divison. Given there are a whole host teams in this divison that will not give you the space or time, you had last night and have far better defences you may struggle.

My opinion based on what I saw last night and watching forty years of basement level league football [If I could have could have pound for every time I seen the Imps play really well, away from home only to sent home pointless by the virtue of superior finishing -- I would be comfortably retired now].

I venture Stanley unfortunatley may be in for a long hard season and possibly a 'twitchy' last quarter. A good team, given the same circumstances would have certainly been dissapointed with not getting a draw at Sincil Bank last night.

It is often this, that distingishes the teams pushing for promotion and those flirting with relegation in the division -- over the years I have come to the opinion there is often very little between the teams at the top and bottom other than the ability to convert chances being the only possible significant difference, along with a modicum of luck. The second goal was a good example -- from going from a situation were you missed a sitter to equalise, twenty seconds later it was two nil!

The sending off's were unfortunate [it was not a "dirty" match by any stretch] and were clearly down to Stanley's inability to the deal with speed and movement of the Imps front three and surging midfield when coming foward.

I agree the atmposhere was strangley muted last night, for such a decent attendance -- possibly due to a series of undistingish home perfomances over the last three or four years and a penchant for throwing away good leads. However, sitting in the Stacey West any noise generated by the away support was not audible. Saying that there would many a club [incuding yourselfs] in the divsion that swap places with us, getting a gate just short of five thousand on a Friday night with a modest away support to say the least. If you think Sincil Bank is quiet, you aint seen nothing yet -- you have some wonderful places to visit.

Whilst the Imps start to the season is encouraging, I'm holding my council if this is 'the' season and wait to see what happens when 'we' start playing on the heavier pitches and play the more physical and cynical teams. I suspect we are in for some "muggings" as the season progresses.

Anyway... It's good to see you back.

All being well I make the return match looking forward to the journey, which will be significantly shorter than last night.

The way the season is panning out is very strange. Out of all the defeats we just ain't got our noses in front. When we have gone behind except for a wonder goal atEdgeley we have lost.

Last night you knew when we conceded we'd lose. I was also confident that had we not conceded early we'd have done well. Maybe its a confidence thing. Last year confidence grew as we gained points & the players looked world beaters. Now we struggle when we go behind like we believe we aren't good enough.

Usually in form like ours you could say "he was crap" "he ain't good enough" but I couldn't say that about any of the first eleven lasty night. Yeah Harris & Proccy never played well & Craney keeps choosing the wrong option but for the main Cav, Liam & Rocky all solid. Roberts head & shoulders above everyone & a cracking goal. Toddy ran all night. Mullin Mr Relaible.

Yet 1-3????

Personally I think that we are conceding the game by the 4-5-1 system. Yes we could get a draw but we could also get a draw or maybe even a win by going for it.

Striker needed desperately. Mangan missed a one on one & added to that header he missed in a recent home game I'm unsure of his ability to finish.

Boco was sorely missed...

We won't go down:eek: but its gonna be a long long road to safety

simple we where outplayed last night, i already thought we would hammered before we left accy. Lincoln are a good footballing side, who will be there or there abouts come the end of the season. craney not on his best form at the moment, gary roberts beggining to get his form back in my opinion just a few to many step overs and fancy flicks.....nothing to get worried about yet with only 6 games played....bring on county!!!


also how many headers does Jay harris win!! hes the 6ft 2" midget!!

One of the benefits of being a league club, you get an improved standard of debate :-)

I was'nt having a dig per-se, despite living a handful of miles from the Shay and admitting to an obvious bias at the outset of my original post -- I would suggest that that to guarantee safety, fifty points are required and averaging a point a match is'nt going to get any team to that target.

The bottom line is you are going to need to score some goals and what I saw last night despite creating some good openings, in all honesty you very rarely looked liked putting the ball in the back of the net. Again despite some good approach work there was often not a Stanley player aware or even close to making the final touch, all against a lightweight defence, 'you' will undoubtedly encounter better defences in the division and as such will not be allowed to build-up like you did against then Imps -- I briefly scanned through some other of 'your' match reports and see a common theme emerging.

What I have seen of teams in this league down the years it just struck me that you may well be scrapping for points to ensure you avoid the dreaded drop into oblivion at the end of the season, playing good football in this league does not equal safety. My opinion is, along with a with a clutch of other North West teams you may well be looking nervously over your shoulder come Late April early May.

Imps fan here, first a belated welcome back to the league. Thought last night was an excellent advert for the division, two sides trying to play football in the right way, although the two sendings off were deserved for the tackles they did not reflect the game as a whole.
As previously stated if you can find a player that can actually shoot straight you will do well. But take it from me there are sides in this league with much less talent than you showed last night and over the season you will consolodate and be ok come May.
All the best for the rest of the season and beat the Boscum and Cods for us!.

Cheers Lincoln fans for coming on here and giving us constructive posts instead of the usual abuse. I enjoyed my night in Lincoln despite the result, standing next to Coxy I didn't need a drink, only joking.
The food in your bar was top class and well priced, drinking from plastic glasses is not something I enjoy but the barmaid who served me made up for that. Friendly stewards and security was good not like the Hitler's at Stockport, if I pay £17 for a seat in should be up to me if I want to use it, your stewards allowed me to make that choice.

the only problem is our stewards dont give a crap about anything!! Occasionaly in the big derbys we will get trouble and they will do nothing. Theres been so many reports of stewards just standing and watching fights and also antagonising aswel. They are getting better but..... hey at least they let us stand up lol

Thanks for that, really pleased with the Lincoln fans response.

Your counter attacking style is not what we want at the moment, to be honest.
And you may well have noticed that our lads need a few more touches than are allowed at this level.

Anyway, hope all Lincoln fans enjoy the return leg, February is usually dry, but bring a brolly anyway.
