Atmosphere

Or the lack of it.
Yesterday v Boston really was like an Accy library which was a shame because it was a good high tempo game. There was no electricity until the final 5 minutes. :(
The answer?
BRING THE DRUM BACK!

I'm certain we can get more for the drum than against it, and though the utilitarianism of it may unsettle some, it's the greater good for the greatest number.

Your thoughts & votes please...

Why is it not there in the first place...is it because of the neighbours??? Sod them.Bring it on in.

I think a roof would change things. I stand on the Whinney Hill terrace and there was loads of atmosphere. People shouting out support for the players (especially Todd on that side) and generally enjoying the banter. Maybe you're standing in the wrong place?

I'm in the main stand & once Stanley gets going we can get all of around 30 people shouting & getting involed which is very poor. Obviousy people support the team in their own way but football is a crowd-driven sport and I don't see the sense in coming to a game and not getting vocally excited about it
Anyway, I digress.

The poll is for the drum to add to the atmosphere the singing makes, which perhaps I didn't make clear. The 20 ultras who sing in the Clayton End are a credit to the club - however their noise is inaudible past the half way line. Therefore with the roof an 'impossible dream', the drum is the most realistic way of injecting atmosphere into the game from kick-off.

A roof would make all the difference to the atmosphere at the ground i got stuck in heavy traffic on the m6 yesterday so i ended up going to fa cup game kidsgvove v leek a ground which has a roof on both ends and the noise created from both sets of fans was loud because of the roofs and this was coming from a attendance of only 395.........

Re: Atmosphere

This may be a very petty and immature retaliation to the ban on the drum but if we organised a game where everyone took an air horn ( There about 5 quid each ) That'd give the neighbours something real to complain about, they'd be begging for the drum back :p

maccawozzagod 17-09-2006 15:23

Re: Atmosphere

air horns are equally banned as they are from most league grounds. But the little horns that the kids have would make quite a din if we all had one. Also kazoos' , very annoying but quite loud if out in force.

Incorrect I think its the way forward but just for one game to see what it's like.:p

Tin Monkey 17-09-2006 19:27

Re: Atmosphere

Perhaps you should take rattles to the match and use phrases such as 'cart on'? That would add real authenticity to the atmosphere. While you're at it, don't forget your woodbines and flat caps.

The drum is banned. Live with it.

(Apologies for not capitalising every word. My keyboard doesn't do that).

Bring it back...anybody stupid enough to move next to the football ground and complain about the noise, shouldn't be allowed to vote, let alone get involved in club issues. I personally say "**** 'em". Bring it back

Sorry lads pressed wrong button,Im all for you having your drum:) I take it the ones complaining are the ones on the new estate on whinney hill? The footy grounds been there longer than them houses so they cant really say much:) Use the drum, airhorns, rattles, megaphones and any other amplified noise maker give it 'em:D :D :D

Re: Atmosphere

An idea from the States, cow bells can be quite unique. Opposing teams really hate them cause they're kinda different. Maybe more for American Football and Hockey but thought I'd throw it out.

Side note: Enjoy reading the threads about Stanley. I'm trying to understand and appreciate the passion you have for your club. I was really wishing the season had started when my daughter and I were over there in early July. I'd of loved to get to a match.

I wish we had that over here. I guess the closest thing we have is College (American) Football.

None taken. You realise, of course, that the Silver Fox is a dab hand with a snare drum. Not sure whether he'd volunteer or not though.

We shouldnt knock the drummers we have, they roused a good atmosphere last season, and got the crowd going

After tonight let's hear no more talk of squaddy drummers .. couldn't have been better. Never thought to see/hear Mrs Chimer chanting "Come On Stanley" for 10 minutes without a pause, and it was definitely the drum that did it for her.

She may have been born in Dorset, but now she knows she is, she's sure she is, she's Stanley still she dies !

Nice one Diesel :drink: have one on us

Just got back from the match, not sure whether it was the occasion or my drumming, but I've never seen so many people get involved in the singing. I was so proud tonight, we outsung a Premiership side, as well as doing the job on the pitch.

Remove the drum ban!

Diesel you did a top job last night I'm sure that the drum you use could not be the one the w*****s on Livinstone Rd object to.

We've got the best drummer in the land !!!:) :) :)

I can only add to what I said on another thread - your drumming at Watford was terrific Diesel and really got the Stanley fans going - all of them in my book ! :D

Definitely, PLEASE BRING BACK THE DRUM !!!!! :) :) :)

DanTheMonkey 26-09-2006 10:27

Re: Atmosphere

It doesnt only get the fans going, it must also give the players a chill down thier spine as they walk onto the field and hear the drum and the crowd chanting for them

Its simple - bring back the drum
