Having just got back, first half was pulsating, second half, not bad but referee and his assistants were shocking. How one player being sandwiched by 2 oppisition players is a foul I will never know. Still a useful away point that could and should have been 3 in reality.

The stanley subs were practicing crosses with Rob eliot in goal, the groundsman came charging over telling them to get out of the goalmouth in a proper cartoon style, shouting, waving and gesturing. He gave Andy Mangan a right earbashing before being told to leave the lads alone by another groundsman.
A little while later a loose ball went close to the 1st groundsman, Andy was hanging around the centre circle waiting for the groundsman to move away before he would retrieve the ball, to save being told off again.

Enjoyed the visit to gigg lane tonight, came away with a full on greenie...... of envy of course of the roof we were sat under!!! Great ground too.

As others have said great first half, dismal second, complete and utter naff (being polite) referee and I reckon the linesman down our end second half is a retired ballet dancer....I've never seen such poses, lol!

Shame we only got a point but felt at times we were lucky to come home with that..... Please less of the high balls....

All in all, fair result especially with it being 3rd game in a week.

Thought it was unfair when the ref booked Welchy when it was Leam who'd committed the offence but thank god he couldn't tell the difference between 6ft 5 Welchy and 5ft 7 Leam :) otherwise Leam would've been sent off near the end for a 2nd yellow. Strange refereeing decisions indeed but at least that one went in our favour!

yeh we were getting beat to many times in the air so its simple take a smaller player off put a taller one on :) should have been cav going off and phil being pushed to right back though...cavs seems to be getting beat to many times this season imo

another good away point if we can gte the 3 at home on the return trip then i would be happy :)

stanleyfan 27-09-2006 11:45

Re: Bury Tonight

What do people think of our squad as a whole. i think that there are a group of players that are good enough to win this league eventually. players like boco, craney, roberts and mullin are probably as good a set of attacking players as you are going to get in this league.

boco especially is one hell of a player. i thought his touch before he scored was something else. most players would have taken a touch to go outside as the defender was coming across to cover, whereas boco becuase of his outstanding sharpness has the ability to get a shot off in those situations.

in my opinion, and this isnt having a go at any of the sides commitment or passion for the sport, i think we have a problem in finding a partner for ian craney (who i thought was excellent in attacking positions last night). now whether that could be procter if he really works on that kind of holding midfield position or if it has to be someone else in the squad or a new signing it remains to be seen. but i really do think that there is a lot to be optimistic about with regards to the playing side of things at accrington. being a holding midfielder isnt about running for 90 minutes and flying in to make tackles its about having the positional sense to break the play up and then set your team off again. if it was about running and flying in to make tackles any footballer could be a top class holding player.

if i was in andy procters position i would be watching videos of players such as makelele alongside watching videos of stanley. and then try and improve his game accordingly.

on set pieces i think we are over complicating it a bit. last night early on in the first half every player was well back in our half. this can lead to players not knowing what their job is when defending the set piece. i think that commiting one or two less players to defend might make decisions easier in the box when the corner or free kick comes accross.

anyway i think we should be ok this season and there definitely could be some more exciting times at the club!!!

I thought Edwards was very unlucky to be subbed and he looked a bit p.....d off. We obviously needed more height at the back against their big men but Welchy should have been on from the start, with Edwards a much better bet at right back than the present incumbent.
Harris, I thought, did very well when he came on and is a great replacement for Proccy when he tires after charging about all over the pitch.
Fantastic game to watch with plenty of Stanley heroes, but Bav was incredible last night. I bet Coley is having nightmares about his decision to sub him for the Watford penalties, though I'm sure we can all appreciate the thinking behind that decision.
Well done, the Ultras - what a marvellous non-stop performance. But why did you not perform behind the goal, where I'm sure you would have got more support from the more staid travelling support, instead of hiding in the corner?

In all honesty i thought that we were extemely lucky to come away with the 1 point, there were just far to many times when we were just giving away the ball for no good reason other than us trying to be all flashy and show off our skill (or lack of it!)

Todd gave away the ball far too many times for my liking. I just felt that they just didnt seem to be on top form at all. But the outrageous ref didnt help matters but made the players more frustrated. Was it just me or did the linesman ignore a blatant hand ball by burn in our half?! Ridiculous!

It was a great atmosphere though I always love it when the ultras are there they get everyone going, especially those last five minutes when everyone in the stand was cheering in unison. Fab!

Watford away
Mansfield away
Bury away

inside eight days. Yes we could have brought a lot more. Dont forget we are new to the league and until this season had only ever took more than 600 away two or three times at most. This season we took 800+ to Chester and 700+ to Bury. Four years ago that would have been our average crowd. I remember being made up that we took over 400 to Halifax on Boxing Day first season in the Conference. Just remember where we were and where we are now. Hopefully these good away crowds will translate into better away crowds for other games where normally we would take fewer. It takes time to build a fanbase at home, away fanbases take even longer.

Uncle Mick(whats all that about????). I don't claim to be a club like say Burnley or Preston who have good support, but I no from years of watching the "mighty shakers" that when it comes to local derbies we always seem to pull fairly good away followings(for us any way). Then the following home game our support goes back to normal, for some reason we have alot of fans who only go to the local derbies and no other games. Thats why we had the buckets out, unfortunatly for us.:engsmil: :engsmil:

The figure 764 was the number in the Cemy end.... Me and at least 150 others were in the Main Stand.

We could not have been counted as we where in the Bury/Away area.

Oh and yes it's true.... Bury do have a lot of Main Stand Moaners who did nothing but slag Chris Casper and his team off ??? I personally thought they worked hard and could finish mid table probably similar to Stanley.

Good sports towards us Stanley fans we had some good banter.

I couldn't agree more, Cav is getting skinned far to many times this season and goals have come from it, boston's goal and bury's second..He seems a yard slow but hopefully it is just a confidence thing and he can come back with a bang...We also look very weak from crosses, however when welchy came on he won everything..We have a very tough run of games now agaisnt league contenders..We need to be tight and take our chances more then ever now..come on accy...

I admire Coleys loyalty to his players who have won him things but sometimes you've gotta let players sit one out. Edwards has been fantastic when he's got in but he doesn't win much in the air cos he's a full back! Leam and Sun bed at full back. Welch and A N Other at centre back. Rocky has improved since the start of the season when he looked out of his depth. N'da deserves chances. New bloke? Dunno. Tretts when he is fit has got to start earning his season and a halfs worth of wages for nowt. I fear for Danny Ventre as he got a chance at Notts County and appeared to be made a scapegoat.

Erm, I think this is what I was trying to say on an earlier thread, yes, you've got to admire Coley's loyalty, but it's time we know about N'Da, one way or another. Rocky, I think, has been outstanding since he adopted a no-nonsense approach, but there's too many crosses coming in.

Have to wait and see what Coley decides.

Thought the lads were brilliant on Tuesday, and really battered them in injury time, 5 mins of "Come on Stanley", hands still sore and no voice.

I was well impressed with the Stanley support on tuesday. Not just the Ultras but the whole end. That last five minutes or so when the entire crowd seemed to join in was magic. It will be a long time til we hear that again I fear.

Somebody else commented earlier that the Ultras should stand in the middle (Redraine post 27) so that more people will join in. Tried and failed I'm afraid. Many people have commented that they dont want to sing. All I can suggest is that if you a wannabe singer then wait til the Ultras are in position and then get as close as you can. It wont always be that packed on an away end and the Ultras will be central and you will be able to join in.

Personally I cant wait until the next time we have a large following and a big game so that we can hear that roar again. Rochdale away should be designated a public holiday. Plan the exodus now.

God help Bury if they go down.

At least they'll be able to take their 1500 to Northwich and Alty next season bank holidays!

By the way my brother was at the match on tuesday bumped into him there and he ended up sitting with us. He was mightily impressed with the singing - he said it was like being back in the 70's at blackburn v burnley! Singing for 95mins. We were talking to some friends of ours tonight and i said we'd been to bury on tues night and bro said the singing was for 95 mins. He'd also been to rovers tonight with his daughter and he said when the score was 0-0 it was going quieter and quieter and tension was building nothing like it was on tuesday. He preferred the atmosphere at the accy stanley match than at rovers tonight.

This seems to be about the tenth time I've said this on here:

Foyle looks to be above N'Da in the centre half pecking order. He ALWAYS plays there in the reserve games. Julien plays in midfield unless there's no other defenders available. I expect he features on the bench as, like Phil, he can cover more than one position, which is very handy in a substitute. Foyle is better in the air & a good organiser, so may be worth a try when Coley thinks he's ready. Welchy's good against the big attackers, but Phil is faster, and that's going to be more important against some sides.

Next wo games will certainly be a severe test for the defence - here's hoping Wycombe's bubble's burst, & Wise leaves Swindon for Leeds next week!!

we wont go down, we got quality in the side and if we sort our problems out at the back we'll be fine we look going forward but like yourselves are weak at the back, your forward line is the best ive seen this this season, an ive seen the likes of mk dons, darlington and shrewsbury, ithink we'll both be fine, your you in december, how many does your away end hold?

You might have sung for 95 mins but I was at the other end of the ground and could not here you. Honestly. You made a fine noise when you scored the second but apart from that I thought you were quiet. Not having a go, that was just the way it was. Maybe I should get me ears looked at. Some of your fans have said we were quiet but it was a good atmosphere where I was. Oh well. Good luck at Whycombe tomorrow. By the way what is your nick name?

I've seen his Dad post on here, so can I say that any family resemblance is purely co-incidental!!

It's just that I was impressed with the lad in the later friendlies, but some of the discussions about the defence suggest that Julien is the only option we have. There's him & the new lad Bains who could easily develop into decent players for Stanley, and I think are worth a mention. Touch wood, the good luck we're having with injuries at the moment mean that we keen keep a settled side which will get it's act together.

The other week (I think against Wrexham) the central defenders were supposed to be Welch and Edwards, but at the last minute Welch pulled out due to sickness and Rocky took his place. Since then we've had some decent results, so JC has stuck with those two.

Personally I think we're better when Edwards plays, as his reading of the game is far and above that of our other defenders. However, I'd like to see him play at right-back instead of Cav.
I've heard some very good things about Foyle too, so maybe he'll get his chance in due course?

It's a shame you missed the Watford game Rob as the whole of the Stanley end kept it going for a hell of a lot longer than 5 mins, I love away games.:)

Sorry shillelagh I was so stunned when I came out of the toilet rushing to get a drink to be met by a accyweb crew I wasn't sure who Ian was introducing me to. I know Mel was there as I've seen her before and Tinks, it must be 15 years since I last saw Ian.
