8 Shots On Target 3
5 Shots Off Target 4
10 Fouls (Conceded) 13
6 Corners 7
1 Yellow Cards 1
0 Red Cards 0

Going by these match stats,it would suggest we were on top,or at least had the edge.

Yeah we should have had at least a point out of this game if not all 3

Re: Walsall game

Walsall looked very poor in the first half as Stanley dominated the midfield but couldn't convert it into a deserved lead at half time, as Walsall had scored against the run of play. Different story in the second half without Walsall looking anything special, and a fantastic Craney free kick plus some desperate Walsall defending gave us hope of snatching the win. Instead they scored near the end and we got nothing out of the game when a point would have been just about deserved.
Attendance of just over 3100 was poor after our recent good form, considering 1200 plus came from Walsall.
Feel a bit down tonight, but what a moment when Craney's rocket hit the back of the net!

Maybe, but not the most number of home fans we have had on this season.

I might get slated for sticking my nose in to a Stanley thread but I think you sometimes expect too much. You lost several generations of fans during the league absence, it's going to take time and a bit of success to get them back. As a season ticket holder at Turf Moor we despair at the gates we get but people just have alternatives to do with their money and time these days. This area is struggling to support 3 league teams with the numbers we all want ( and expect !).

Well why don't we all get together and go to the best 1 of the 3 teams in the area then?
I'm going to get my ticket for next match, gonna be busy at the FES :D

To be fair we were without our top scorer Butler and Midfield fighter of Dobson so a good result for us with a bit of a patch up.

These are the games we (Walsall) need to win to get back out of Division 4.

Thanks for today, Your Safety officer (mark) was great letting us in the seats (preggy wife and a Father in law with walking disabilities)

All the best for the rest of the season. Look forward to seeing you at Bescot.

No problem mate, all contributions are welcome.
Was it too much to expect our best home fans turn out considering the good weather, both the "big two" were not playing, we had our first away win of the season last saturday, we turned over another Div 1 team in midweek, and Walsall are flying at the top of the league?

No good trying to figure it out lol, we were 2nd last week and still had 2 **** home attendances and that was also coming off the back of a fantastic away win. There's just no logic to it.

Cheers!!! Support away has been pretty good, Over 1000 to Rochdale, Chester on a Friday night and to Accy.

Our Home support is improving, nearly 7000 last saturday  A big difference to when Merscum was in charge.

Re: Walsall game

I have to say it was a hell of a match, but where were the other 300 or so home supporters. We have been getting 2200 home supporters recently at least, yet today we are down to 1900. What the hell have you to do to get decent support in this town! By rights we should have had nearly 3500 mind you Walsall were saying they would bring 1500 and only brought 1200. Still a hell of an away following. Best bit was in the club afterwards and saw the Rochdale score (7-1 to Lincoln). Thought both Walsall goals came from defensive lapses, Liam richardson got caught napping for the second, missed the first though so I am assuming Bav's fumbled? Great Craney goal though. Matched the one that Leighton Baines scored for Wigan against Man U last week. Matched Walsall for 90 mins and deserved something out of the game. C'est la vie, next week maybe.

zayno14 21-10-2006 20:05

Re: Walsall game

I thought it was a good header for their first goal by Constable which hit the bar. I think it may be a little harsh to blame Bavs, however he may have been able to tip ball over the bar. We should have had a point, we had most off the play but lacked the final ball in the final third. We looked a little lost for ideas when we had it in the Walsall half and we had many occasions when one of our lads had the chance to shoot but didn't. Phil Edwards was my man of the match. He won most if not all of his battles and some of his passes were fantastic. He seems to be there at exactly the right time and must surely start at Hereford next week..

accymel 21-10-2006 20:57

Re: Walsall game

What a good match today despite the result, i think the support was great, especially the singing/crowd participation getting behind the team has certainly increased. I think we played well certainly in the 1st half where i think we dominated more than walsall im sure we had a few goals denied on target gee i was having an attack on whether we scored or not lol. Shame my blaming prediciton went the other way, we certainly deserved a point but was times of apathy within the team before mangan came on.

Hope we do well next wekk at Hereford i'll keep the faith & wont be there to jinx em lol

I've read this thread and I'm very annoyed I do not believe there was only 3100 on today. There was no way on earth we could have fit another 2000 fans on the ground to fill to capacity. I know we've discussed this before and I've been threatened but this time sue me. Today fans turned up and supported us but the club for some reason (I think we know why) chooses to declare a lower gate making us a laughing stock once again.
Because I choose to say what I think I get info in e-mails and PMs and even in brown envelopes through my door, I have nothing to hide all I want is for a more realistic gate figure to be presented, rant over.;)

1200 away fans,
all seats full = 1200,
which means 800 on the clayton end and the cow shed.
It looked very full from where I was stood.

Don't worry about the attendances. We've been struggling with this for years with our 'neighbours'.It will improve with time. We've always been everyone's 'second' favourite club in the West Midlands. Thanks for the hospitality today and sorry we were so poor with a couple of our key players missing. Best of luck for the rest of the season and look forward to seeing a BIG Stanley crowd at Bescot. :)

After reading Rob Heys comments in todays programme I suppose he thinks we might fill the remaining 2000 spaces with "travellers" and "veil wearers", utter crap.

Easy, easy, from what i saw today ther was still space in the old cow shed and a a bit of space clayton end winney hill side.

Better football, better atmosphere, more fans on the ground. The only way is up!

Wynonie Harris 22-10-2006 07:48

Re: Walsall game

Although yesterday's gate was a little disappointing, building up support for Stanley is going to be a long, slow process - a case of two steps forward and one step back. OK, there were only 1900 Accy on, as compared to 2200 for the Swindon game, but don't forget that there were only around 1500 home fans on for the Barnet match. We're making progress in terms of support but only slowly. Don't forget, most of us on here are caught up in the romance of a league return after 44 years, but most local folk are a lot more hardheaded than that. They will come, but only to watch a winning, entertaining team in an exciting and passionate atmosphere. Despite yesterday's result, we are starting to offer them that and hopefully gates will continue, slowly but surely, to rise!

PelsallReds 22-10-2006 10:10

Re: Walsall game

You were unlucky, you deserved something out of the game, we were not at the races, missing our top two players, Butler and Dobson, but when your top (as you know from last season!) and things are going well, the ball seems to roll for you.

There were major problems on the M6 yesterday which could have reduced the number of Walsall fans that travelled, I was expecting more than the 1256 quoted.

I think if you want to increase attendance, a new stadium is in order, or at least a roof or two. As good as it was to stand up at a match again, you ain't gonna attract the floating fans to get soaked.

Best of luck anyway, look forward to a big Accy following at Bescot.

AccyMad 22-10-2006 16:23

Re: Walsall game

I thought our lads played really well yesterday,we certainly matched and quite a lot of the time outplayed Walsall. We definately deserved a draw at least. However, I felt John Coleman's comments on the radio after the game were bang out of order - he slated our players,at one point saying that four of our lads had carried the other seven! He must have been watching a diferent game to me that's all I can say.

Whitworth Saddler 23-10-2006 16:36

Re: Walsall game

We definitely missed Dobson in midfield,to me he was signed for games like Accrington away.We are always going to miss Butler when he his out good to see Sam notch again.
Cracking free kick for the equaliser,i just had a feeling Craney would score from it even before the ball was kicked. Before the game would have settled for 1-1,not a vintage Saddlers performance but when Wright put the winner in,you cant help but think maybe this is going to be our season.
The attendance from your point of view is something that is going to take time to build up,i fully understand the question well what exactly do people want and it applies to Walsall as well a lot of the time.We suffer from the so called big clubs on our doorstep arguement, but with us we have suffered from dross on the pitch last couple of seasons and apathy from the board.Hopefully your promotions and the fact that is obvious you are going to do more than consolidate this season, will help to keep building the crowd.
Hospitality from your end was bang on from the help with parking to help getting seats second half,i had my three girls with me the youngest just a month old. There is far to much Claret and Blue in Whitworth hence the young start!
All the best for the season see you at the Bescot.:engsmil:

Or even fall from the sky onto your prone strikers foot ?

Enjoyed the match, atmosphere was great, what annoyed me most was we conceded both goals when Stanley seemed to be in the ascendancy and the support was maxing out, frustrating.

I did wonder myself Bagpuss when they announced that only 1265 of us travelled.

I saw pics from the Swindon following which was 800+? the terrace looked half empty.

The pics from Saturday it looked very full and we had a lot of people in the side stand as well.

This is a real bugbear of mine, it happens week after week then we get our management appearing in the local papers slagging of the fans for not attending. Like i've said if anyone wants to cook da books at least make it a figure we could live with and not laugh at.:)
