Re: Roberts 1st Goal for Tractorboys
He's been substituted tho' and we've had a bloke sent off... Holding on to a 1-1 scoreline..
Bout time Stanley's luck changed innit..?? Obviously can't get to games being nearly 300 miles away but kept an eye on forum, website etc and since all the departures it's gone a bit pear shaped especially with Mannix returning for treatment.. |
Re: Roberts 1st Goal for Tractorboys

Re: Roberts 1st Goal for Tractorboys
i saw the goal last night on sky sports news. during the game on gillette soccer special the reporter at the derby vs ipswich game said roberts drew "special praise" from no less than bobby robson at the weekend. i just hope we didnt agree a fee of £200,000 when we loaned roberts out, as thats looking a poultry sum now he's lighting up the championship. i'd be happy with us getting £500,000 plus the usual sell on fee.

Re: Roberts 1st Goal for Tractorboys
saw the goal on Sky, top quality volley. He even got interviewed after the game!! Sloppy business if Gazza has gone for any less than £500k in my opinion.

Re: Roberts 1st Goal for Tractorboys
we should be getting 250,000 minimum for him

The goal was not for Stanley. We are just getting loan fees. I cannot see him playing for Stanley again. Why should we be bothered about seeing it? Frankly I was highly delighted when my long term league team Sheffield Wednesday beat Ipswich 2-0 at Portman Road the other week.   |

He may play for stanley again. If he breaks his leg tomorrow where will he end up? And with our injury problems this season I wouldn't back against it. Just getting loan fees??? maybe at the moment, but come January we are in the money and that is why we are still talking about it. £200k is a pittance for somebody is now mixing it more than adequately in the second best tier of English football. That is more than worth talking about. Sheffield Wednesday aren't. Although I see that you were being sarcastic. |

I was one of three Sheffield fans I know of just at the Swindon game and as is apparent from these threads a lot of fans have Stanley as their other team. I travel nearly ninety miles to home games and have seen Stanley 8 times already this season. Expressing an attitude towards other people's northern clubs is not going to encourage the dual team supporter Eric Whalley is on record as saying the club needs. Its going to alienate them and a lot of us have wives perhaps unhappy about us being away at matches every Saturday. Say similar about Blackburn Burnley and Man U and see what I mean. Its good that clubs with money can see Gary Roberts play well ahead of the January window. But the likes of me watching is not going to make any difference to the eventual fee. The fee may well have been agreed anyway. Sarcasm does not come into it. I was on Kingfield with Gary Roberts on 15 April and I think he's a top bloke. |

You will have a lot of fun because being the top supported Football League team last season (despite struggling for most of it) there are a lot about. Doesn't bother me though. Nine years later in Dec 1977 I saw them get knocked out of the FA Cup in the Second Round at NPL Wigan and they finished the year a win and a draw adrift at the foot of League 1. True support gathers strength from these experiences - same as Grimsby on Saturday. They revived to finish mid table and beat the Divisional Champions in the last game. Within this League Stanley have not sunk to those depths and I am sure they can do likewise. Like the tongue in cheek remark about the name! :banhat: :Banane57:  |

Coming from near Skem United I was able to follow Stanley's progress from reformation in the Ormskirk Advertiser. The name David Hargreaves was featured a lot. Stanley were from c. 1972 my favourite non league team and from 1976 the Owls my favourite league team. Now they are both in the league I have a potential conflict which I cannot resolve. I suppose it would depend who needed the result more. A few weeks ago I had John Coleman's interview with Radio Lancashire on my PC in my left ear and Paul Sturrock's interview with Radio Sheffield on my radio in my right ear. I could not bear to turn either of them down even though it left me not being able to hear either of them properly. All I can say is whilst I am delighted at the Owls' recent upturn in fortunes I am not enjoying the season at all because of Stanley's recent run of results and my worries about replacing Craney, Roberts and bolstering our attack. It must be great just to support Accrington Stanley but with the club 44 years out of the league and the support supplemented by a good few people like myself coming from outside the club's natural catchment area I hope you can put up with us dual supporters at least until enough people from Hyndburn are prepared to fill the FES and the visitors' ends at the away games. A Stoke supporting friend who was at the Swindon game commented on the cosmopolitan atmosphere with quite a few other clubs' supporters at the FES. Amongst these were Liverpool fans and supporters of both Sheffield clubs. |
