Ipswich confirm offer price for Gary Roberts

See:

http://www.eadt.co.uk/content/eadt/s...A26%3A24%3A717

This confirms the £200,000 figure previously mentioned. How many think that's enough?

Doesn't paint a rosy picture of Ipswich either.

for around £200,000 that means its not set in stone :)
just like the LET reported fro around £200,000 its good press talk, will only be confirmed when it appears on the official site

No. I recall them offering £50k!

It's more likely to mean there is a bonus based on appearances and a possible sell on percentage if they sell him at a profit.

Haggis316 06-12-2006 20:47

Re: Ipswich confirm offer price for Gary Roberts

Big prices are paid by Championship Clubs. But Ipswich have a reputation for being canny in the transfer market.

Seem to recall Derby paid Luton £1m for Steve Howard their Centre Forward.

Striker David Graham cost cash strapped Sheffield Wednesday £250,000 from Wigan and he managed 2 goals in 19 league appearances.

Personally I rate Gary at £400,000 plus.

I take it there will be a decent sell on clause.

we'll get another 200k when he moves to another championship club next season. I bet he gets a shot at the Wales squad andf then Cardiff'll buy him

we should, in my humble opinion, get at least £350,000 for roberts, maybe even £500,000. here's why-

-ipswich fans are constantly singing his praises
-bobby robson singled him out for special praise
-it's rumoured john toshack is looking closely at him
-izale mcleod (mk dons forward) has been the subject of £1 million bids and roberts had more goals than him before he went on loan.

The price was agreed before Roberts played for Ipswich, the fans singing his praises would have had no bearing on that otherwise. It's also common amongst footballers to up their game while on loan trying to get a permanent deal.

As for comparing him to Mcleod you are comparing apples and pears.

Re: Ipswich confirm offer price for Gary Roberts

its not enough to be quite honest, the point of a loan is to have a closer look at a guy and see if he is worth bidding for. If he was crap, or got injured, would they still have given us 200k? no. Therefore because he has done well we should be able to up the price, or recall him or whatever. So what if that aint gentlemanly, Eric aint no gentleman when it comes to money.

The point of the loan was because they weren't allowed to buy him until January. If he was going to a premiership club he wouldn't have gone, it's only football league clubs that can 'use/abuse' the emergency loan window. I'm only guessing but I would say it was a done deal and the loan window was just an opportunity that allowed him to go then. Stanley get the money and they also save a couple of months wages.

....it all depends upon what was agreed upon paper. I haven't a clue about football league rules relating to loans/transfers, but I would assume that as a commercial transaction they would fall under the usual auspices of contract law. The questions therefore are:

1) Was a set (transfer) fee agreed at the time of Robert's loan to Ipswich?

2) Was this put down in writing and signed off by all parties?

3) Were there any caveats pertaining to possible injury, performance failure or interest by third party clubs?

If, of course, everything was done verbally then I am quite sure that the club would be well within their rights to ask for a figure above the 200K mentioned.

Haggis316 07-12-2006 19:06

Re: Ipswich confirm offer price for Gary Roberts

Jim Magilton said that Gary would have potentially cost them a lot more if they had waited to the January Transfer window.

With at least one earlier report and the East Anglian newspaper talking about £200k approx that causes me to think that that's about as much as Stanley will get at first instance.

In the meantime we have got a loan fee reportedly in five figures and hopefully there will be a "Sell On" Clause.

Just to let you know, Ipswich have sacked their Kitman / Coach Driver and are now gonna be using Guess Who......??...Fraser Eagle..!! Yep, for all their coach transport for the 1st Team. Do you think this has been negotiated into the loan agreement?? It's a bit ironic if you ask me, is using a coach firm 280 miles away cost effective??? Gary Roberts on a loan plus use our sponsors for your coach travel and we will cascade some money back to Stanley playing fund..??

Your thoughts

Fraser eagle are nation wide company, they where the ones who helped to evacuate the many people in the london bombings, They sub contract out to alot of companies therefore its probably just by chance that this has happened,

They organise replacement buses for broken down trains on a national basis.

Cost effective, no; but there's a certain cachet.

Gary got one of the goals in Ipswich's 2 - 2 draw at Cardiff.

Jim Magilton was "pleased with him. He got on the ball well and looked a threat every time he ran at their defence. I'm delighted we have got him at our football club".

I would have thought a 'loan' should mean a loan, meaning he is STILL the property of ASFC, to suggest otherwise would imply both clubs have broken strict transfer rules, therefore roberts IS still red and we can dispose of him to any club we see fit(as long as he agrees).

If we are called ungentlemanly for taking another £300k, then so be it, I reckon roberts would prefer to go to cardiff anyway, it's closer to scouseville!

Didnt Jim Magilton say when they signed him on loan that if Ipswich waited to january they may not have been able to affrod him??

350k is alot of money really though paul.m.f.h . However stanley may get money and do a deal for the players we have on loan for cardiff. Who knows:S

According to Radio Sheffield tonight Ipswich have made an offer for Will Hoskins the Rotherham Striker.

A price of £600,000 was mentioned in connection with him.

Apparently they are also considering Billy Sharp Scunthorpe's top scorer.

On a personal issue, IF Gary were to go to Cardiff and Dave Jones let Jacobsen and McDonald stay with us and get say 200K who is going to complain. Both players have had reasonable starts to there loan time at Accy and not paying out any money whilst getting money in for Gary is good business in my books.

Lovely interview with Gary by Suzanne in the LET last night, says he's settled in really well and is loving it. Also says he misses all the lads though so you never know he may turn up again one day when Ipswich haven't a game.
