Goalkeepers

does anyone think that elliot desveres a start... but Bavs has been good apart from one or two mistakes. but has kept us in some games....

Re: Goalkeepers

Yes I do.

But Bavs kept us in it at Mansfield in the League and kept the damage down with some inspired saves not least with his foot at Grimsby.

Re: Goalkeepers

all keepers keep you in games. No matter how bad (apart from Crichts) you will still make saves. IT IS WHY YOU ARE THERE. Even Bossu made a couple of saves until he 'threw' the game.

What is the point of having a perfectly good keeper (Rob was brilliant last year) sat on the bench if he is not being allowed to push the guy in charge of the no 1 shirt? Make a mistake you are out, and may take a while to get the shirt back, all keepers know and understand that so the motivation is there not to make mistakes. Bavs however is leading a charmed existence. Good as he may have been in games, he has still cost us in at least three games this season with mistakes. Rob should play until he too costs us three points.

Re: Goalkeepers

Bavo for me everytime sorry Macca. We are all agreed that Coley is a football genius and he must see something in Rob in training that makes him think Bav is the better keeper and that's good enough for me. I agree that keepers will always make saves but similarly they will make mistakes. Bav has saved us more times than he's let us down this season and with the Defence on the back foot he has to make more saves than most keepers in the league.

Re: Goalkeepers

well after todays performance i think its time coley put rob in the net...
Bavs couldnt command the area at all. he shouts too much... and the layers end up arguing with him. whereas rob is always in control of the denfence

Re: Goalkeepers

yes everyone sings bavs`s praises when he keeps us in games and makes tremendous saves but when he makes a few mistakes everyones against him its rediculous! Bavs all the time for me , two good goal keepers but id rather pick bavs over elliot! :D

maccawozzagod 10-12-2006 08:34

Re: Goalkeepers

how many times did Rob let us down last season?

Tin Monkey 10-12-2006 08:41

Re: Goalkeepers

I actually said a few weeks ago that Dunbavin was costing us goals and I was subjected to abuse on the forum. However, the trend continues and he does cost us goals due to his lack of decision making and silly mistakes. I'm not sure why he is chosen in front of Elliott. It doesn't make sense.

All I can think is that Elliott is not performing well in training, or he isn't really fit enough to play. I know he has been overweight and perhaps he isn't showing enough commitment during the week? There must be some reason why he isn't playing.

fc:stanley 10-12-2006 10:11

Re: Goalkeepers

Tin monkey it is the defence aswell , sometimes bavs makes great decisions and makes amazing saves but sometimes makes mistakes, everyone makes mistakes and just because hes cost us a few goals doesnt mean he should be sub`d! So if elliot comes in for bavs and makes even more mistakes what are we gunna do then! Buy another goalkeeper!

stanleyfan 10-12-2006 10:17

Re: Goalkeepers

well we have 3 keepers.. so perhaps when Francois Dubourdean comes back from loan he might play. Never seen him play before but he sounds good from what i have heard about him !:)

cmonstanley 10-12-2006 10:58

Re: Goalkeepers

its gotta be bavs for me he wasnt at fault for the goals yesterday it was the defence daydreaming again again they just watched the mkdons player go past them and then dived in when it was too late............yesterday just showed the defence has no pace .any team with a bit of pace just picks us off at will...just look at the goals we have conceded at home. our team need lessons on concentration as well cause we had the game for the taking......

fc:stanley 10-12-2006 11:15

Re: Goalkeepers

well said cmon stanley! It is the defence and now lost rocky aswell it going to be hard for accrington`s defence

No one has mentioned Andy Dibble.

Are recent goals against a sign that we are missing him?

Re: Stanley v MK Dons, goals from the championship.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks REDASH...Sorry to rake the mud,but couldn't help but notice another poor effort by DUNBAVIN when clearing the ball as Williams chopped down the Dons player. All the time, all the space in the world and he returns it straight back at the fallen Dons bloke .It could've richoched(sp) into goal or to another opposition player.I have to wonder about this fella when I read about and see his kicking game.Surely its time for a change?

Re: Goalkeepers

I have to agree with Tin Monkey. I thought Bavs was seriously at fault for at least two of the goals yesterday - and it's not the first time! I admire the lad's shotstopping, but his basic problem is that he just isn't big enough to command his area, which is probably why he's never made it before. Shrewsbury found out, Scarborough found out, maybe Halifax did too, which might have made them that bit keener to open the door for his disciplinary exit.I know he's scouse, which counts for a lot at the FES, but isn't it time our management team found out too ?

Re: Goalkeepers

In my opinion Coleman has lost the plot when it comes to this matter. How many more errors and dropped points will we have to suffer before he gets dropped. Won't belong before Charlton realize he will be much better of sitting on their own bench and then thats another genuine quality player lost. This has beome almost farcical now.

You were at the Stanley vs MK Dons match ?

Re: Goalkeepers

I'm afraid Coley has "form" as far as stubbornly playing the wrong keeper is concerned. We all remember PC, don't we?

Oggy 10-12-2006 19:20

Re: Goalkeepers

I suppose Dunbavin is "ours", and Robbie is on loan, and we'll never be able to afford him. That must influence Coley's decision.

Dunbavin has played blinders in loads of games this season, BUT........

Strongly believe we need a goalkeeping coach, but, more than that, the back five need to work as a unit. It's as much about communication as technique, but both need working on.

As for kicking, they're both in the Jamie tradition :( .

Re: Goalkeepers

so has everyone started blaming it on coley now just because of a couple mistakes, what did you think accrington was going to do coming from the conference to the football league , did you all think they where going to be top of the league or something becuase it sounds it. all becuase of a couple mistakes people point the finger! OO its bavs fault , oooo its coleys fault ! Cumon respect what we have at accrington becuause i know that they are playing great football sometimes and to score 3 with injures and key men gone is not bad! so come on people lighten up a little! You can point fingers at the end of the season. in the next game elliot does rubbish and lets in 5 easy goals what you going to do then blame it that he put elliot in! Stop complaining becuase of a couple mistakes!

Oh no, hang on. I missed the point of your post. A bit like you missed the point of a fans' forum and this thread in particular.

of course i was. it might look if it was bavs fault but the indecision of the defence put him in two minds of what to do it would get to anybody even if he blocked the shots there was no defender to clear it........:Banane08:

Have you been to any of the recent matches - Jeez - Coley has seriously lost the plot, not just on goalkeepers, but outfielders as well. What was the idea of taking of Phil Edwards (injured I accept) and replacing with Andy Mangan and thereby putting our best attacking wide player in defence? Then Taking off McGovern, who IMHO had a decent game and could beat attackers and put on Danny Ventre, it just does not add up whichever way you look at it. Andy Mangan is quick, I will grant you, but he wasn't beating too many players unlike both Toddy and McGivern and Jacobson. Yes he scored a good goal, but his work ethics have been found out and he is not cutting the mustard yet. We were lucky against Shrewsbury to get a point, we played well in parts, but having scored 3 goals against a team who were in 5th place, let in 4 - no we need help and fast or else its back to the Conference

surely its time for rob ???

stanleyfan 16-12-2006 12:59

Re: Goalkeepers

There may also be a change of goalkeepers with Rob Elliot looking set to get the nod for his first league start this season over Ian Dunbavin.
"It is a possibility," said Bell.

and we still concede three goals was tht dubavins fault as well

Re: Goalkeepers

I will reserve judgement until I see U-tube and how those goals were scored.Surely Elliot gosen't give up the ball as easily as Bavs did/dose?

Re: Goalkeepers

I was at the game and at first thought Rob was at fault for first goal!!
But i just saw it on tv and it was just a great strike!!!

maccawozzagod 17-12-2006 12:04

Re: Goalkeepers

so, how did Rob perform yesterday? Was he in command of his area? were any of the goals his fault? should Bavs play next week?

jiffy bag 17-12-2006 12:22

Re: Goalkeepers

rob did nothin wrong and pulled off a stunning save first half.

Bavo has done well for most of the season but maybe rob deserves his chance!!!!!!!!!!

so what happens if charlton recall him well be left without a match fit keeper..
is it a risk worth taking i dont think elliot is worse/better than dunbavin so we must play our keeper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could say that Elliot wasn't match fit,but from the bits I saw on the goals package,he looked fine.Dunbavin would have no problem should the situation arise.A spell on the sideline might also work wonders for his psychological thinking re kicking the ball.

Outback Ozzy 17-12-2006 19:10

Re: Goalkeepers

If Charlton were to recall Rob, we still have doubeurdeau or however you spell it who we can recall from wherever he is (Scouseport I think)
