could it be about michael twiss of morecambe the striker who is out of contract at the end of the season, he has got 10 goals so far this season. As he would go on a free at the end of the season he would not cost much to buy in january.

Suprised Twiss hasn't made it further up the ladder. I went to the Stanley v Morecambe ( don't let Doug find out ) and Twiss stood out a mile.

Could be very very good if coley can get him to perform for a full 90 instead of sulking when he doesn't get the ball and becoming lazy..

We could do with defenders before strikers. Scoring goals isn't the problem, but keeping them out is. I wonder if Perkins and Blackburn would come too? :D

you wont get TWISSY or BLACKY,they are staying where they are, anyway MORECAMBE will be swapping places with accy.you are heading for relegation and we are going up :Banane10:
why do you want to relocate your ground? (if you can call it a ground)

According to the Morecambe website Blacky's contract is up in the summer and Perkins was transfer listed in August at his own request.

Re: Twiss

Considering you can't sign players due to wage constraints, what makes you so sure that you can afford Michael?

I've heard this rumour from some of my work colleagues in Blackburn and they seem more concerned that John might be on his way if things don't improve.

If you can't compete in the wages stakes then gates of under 1400 will not help. It's of no great suprise that you are looking into the possibility of a groung move. Sounds like a very logical way of improving your finances?

Re: Twiss

Why would we be looking at conference players? This is what happens to the sunderlands and Watfords of this world, you get promoted and then look at the championship for your players. If you look around I am sure John will find good players without having to drop our standards to the next level down. Twiss is a conference player if he was any better don't you think that a better club would have already signed him, the same way they did with Roberts and Craney? Morcombe arn't even in the playoff places, lets look at some of the players looking for games or go for loan players from better divisions.

Back here again, CC? It seems only a few months ago that you were telling us that our ground wouldn't be accepted as being up to football league standards...and you'd had this information from someone in the know.

So, please forgive us if we take your latest rumour with a rather large pinch of salt! :D

The same pinch of salt that's been doing the rounds about Michael joining you guys no doubt.:D

As for missing promotion....as our Fraser Eagle coaches pass each other this time next year, us on our way to Chester and you on your way to Northwich I'm sure Twissy will give you a wave and wish you all the best for Christmas!:D

Seriously fellas, it will be great for both clubs to play each other in Division 2 next season.

Re: Twiss

There is no chance of this happening for several reasons:-

Twissy left the Conference Champions in 2004 to join Morecambe so playing in League 2 is not a huge carrot.

We are not a selling club. We rejected Chester's £50k offer for Michael and rejected an even bigger offer from Blackpool for Danny Carlton. Our Chairman is a multi millionaire (Umbro Chief Exec) and is determined to see us promoted and will spend what it takes to achieve this and is negotiating a new contract with Twissy ,Jesus , Yates etc etc.

As mentioned with only 6 months left on his contract the fee would not make it worthwhile to sell ONE of our major players.

That was 2 years ago.

May be he wants to give the league another shot before he hits the "big 3 - 0".

Stanley get regular TV coverage.

Does the Nation remember Andy Gouck for his stint Captaining Morecambe or for shooting Accrington Stanley passed Huddersfield Town on Match of the Day live?

Re: Twiss

As Tin Monkey says we need defenders. We are still the fourth highest scoring team in the league, but now we have conceded the most goals in the league. Why are we looking at strikers ? What we need is an experienced defender to organise and control the defence. We need players with league experience not unproven Conference players. Do people not realise we are in trouble and we need to get out of it quickly or it will be a quick return to the Conference, then Coley and Eric will not be remembered for the people who got us into the league but the people who got us out of the league.

Coley said in the League Paper yesterday that he was going to search the market for a defender in January.

He should have been searching the market for the last few years as our defence has been crap for ages.

We've had 3 promotions with a crap defence. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Revived Red 11-12-2006 18:41

Re: Twiss

I don't think the defenders are crap as individual players. The problem seems to me to be a lack of effective coaching to make them a cohesive and organised unit. Let's not forget that we have had defenders in the league's "Team of the Week". Too many goals have been given away because of uncertainty about who should be tackling and who should be covering.

Of course it's broke, and it needs fixing quick. We have conceded the most goals in League One and Two and you don't think it needs fixing. We have scored three goals in each of our last two games (both at home) and not won either game because we have conceded seven goals - and you think that the defence doesn't need fixing. We have had two clean sheets in twenty one league games and you think the defence is ok and doesn't need fixing. Wake up and get real, if we carry on defending like this it will be a long downward slide.

You shouldn't need to score 5 at home to win a game!!!

I agree; we shouldn't be conceding so many goals. I disagreed with your comment of "He should have been searching the market for the last few years as our defence has been crap for ages", which of course is rubbish. :)

I disagree that the whole problem is the defence. Since Craney left there is a huge gap in midfield - which Proccy or Harris can't fill - so that's where a lot of the goals come from.

Re: Twiss

You cant just blame the defence for conceeding goals. The defense starts with the strikers. If they didnt give the ball away then there would be less 'defensive work' for the midfields and so on. Losing Gary Roberts and Ian has had a big effect and i think we need to find a midfielder and a new striker. We only have Paul and Andy who are fit to play (up front) at the moment.
