Old Picture Project
I have been handed a bundle of old pictures.. around 100 given to me by Phil Terry.. Pics from games where you can clearly see the old terrace where main stand is, Pics from barbados, Pics from team lineups and presentations in the clubhouse.. theres allsorts in there and these pictures are taken by various poeple... these are not pre 68 pictures.
Whats the point of these being in someone drawer hidden away? I can't wait to get these scanned and get them online so everyone can see them. I am sure they will be populor. Pics by Roy Gabryzak, Terry Slinger, Steve Allen, Telegraph, Observer and others unamed.. these have been given to the club so now owned by the club.. and I am going to put them online on behalf of the club. The original Roy Gab pics are being given back to his family through Phil Whalley today but I ahve scanned them ready for sharing. Point is... Have you got any old pictures you can share... there just scraps of paper if under yer bed... give them to me for scanning (or better still scan and send the file) and releasing... Where I know the author it will be clearly stated on the picture when published.. Theres no money going to be made by me out of this.. I would like to see the club offer prints for sale.. new and old.. But that wouldnt involve me making anyhting.. so send them in and share them.. Anything over 5 yrs old but post 1968 would be perfect :) email me .... [email protected] |
Re: Old Picture Project
This I’m looking forward too, any chance of getting them on tonight…….:)

Re: Old Picture Project
Sorry to be so impatient, Mr K, but when do you reckon you'll be posting these pics? I for one, am dying to see them!
|
Re: Old Picture Project
No ones sent me any yet.... haa ya mean the ones already got?...hehe :)
Only scanned the first few of roys.. theres about a hundred left to scan and then they have to be put on web and have all the relative info from back of pic on them.... the rush for scanner was for a few originals that had to go back... I think julie (AccyRed) is gonna start scanning this week.. Sorry didnt mean to give the impression it was imminant... |
Re: Old Picture Project

Re: Old Picture Project
Who is Rob Molloy? have pic with 4 people on and thats all there is on the back..
|
Re: Old Picture Project
Not a name I've come across Mr K. Any chance of putting the pic up just in case anyone can recognise the Gentleman.
|
Re: Old Picture Project
Are you sure it's not Rob Mulloy? A very able goalkeeper of ours during the mid-1990's. I seem to remember that he even played for a Northern Premier League representative side. I think his career may have been curtailed by injury.

Re: Old Picture Project
Mr K,
Speak to Phil Terry. He often speaks about a Rob Mulloy, a goalkeeper who was at the club in the early NPL days. Was a Colne lad ( still is a believe) and also played for a sort while at Bury FC. Phil knows him well as they travelled over from Colne for a number of years together.:) |
Re: Old Picture Project
Man of the Match awards. Mulloy in white shirt, 2 sponsors and the Black guy is an opposition player from........ at a guess, Winsford. :D
|
Re: Old Picture Project
southerred.. i know.. phil gave me the pics... but a) i dont want to call him this time on new yrs eve and b) i wanted to give people summat to do :) :)

Re: Old Picture Project
Rob Mulloy - keeper with huge hands who we signed from Crosshills. Made his debut against Chorley in the last game of a season, prob 93-94. Rob drew with them 1-1 and was excellent. Signed for us part way through the next season after much clamour from fans and management.
Played in the same team as Chris Molloy (fit sister) and Stewart Anderson and the three of them represented the NPL in the game staged at Crown 95-96. Retired after about four years with us after seriously injuring his knee and never really recovering. Was kept out of the team that lost at Deepdale to Southport in the Lancs final by a certain Steve Berryman who was also injured and responsible for throwing two goals into the back of the net. Rob also makes my Stanley all time dream team. Was mentioned by Lee Rogerson in No F in Roof issue 2 as the best player he ever played with who should have gone on to better things. Worked in and around farms and tractors. Lee said that he frequently turned up to training stinking of cow sh.... |
Re: Old Picture Project
Macca was Stewart Anderson the blonde right winger that got his face smashed up in one of the home games by the oppositions left back maliciously elbowing him in the face?
He was a corking player and after that he never played for us again. Mind you I think it was a double fractured cheekbone, concussion, and I'm not sure if it broke his jaw too, also at one point they thought he was in danger of losing his eye, oh and to top it off he nearly died on the pitch coz he swallowed his tongue. Quite honestly the most horrific thing I have ever seen in football, including Jonny Smiths broken nose at Droylsden!!!! Oh and Rob is definately the one in the white shirt. Watching him one was of the major things that made me want to be a goalie, I was gutted when he went. |
Re: Old Picture Project
Stuart Anderson was an ex-Colne Dynamo lad. The player your are thinking of was Darren Schofield, the ex-Droylsden striker. He was elbowed right in front of the stand in a game against Bradford Park Avenue. He never played for us again.

Re: Old Picture Project
Thanks TM, I've been trying to work it out since I saw a photo of him in an old programme a few weeks ago, but there was no caption under it.
|
Re: Old Picture Project
Darren Thornton actually
|
Re: Old Picture Project
the guy who did him was called Morris and you're right it was Bradfrod.
About three seasons later we played Farsley at home and they had a big black guy on the bench called Morris. As all these clubs are in a similar area it was fair game to assume that the guy on the bench was the same thug who did Thornton in. He got a 60 minute chant of "Morris-Scum, Morris-Scum". When he finally came on he was loudly booed by most of the ground every time he touched the ball. The guy had a shocker and was subbed himself after about 10 minutes. Talking to Darren in the bar after the game he thanked us for our efforts on his behalf but went on to explain that it wasn't the same guy. To that guy I apologise......probably ruined his career with that one. |
Re: Old Picture Project
It was Thornton yes. We did have a Scofield from Droylsden who looked a lot like him, hence my mistake.
|
Re: Old Picture Project
Turns out theres around 340 pictures to scan... its gonna be a longer job than julie first thought... but she is doing x amount per day so plodding along :)

Re: Old Picture Project
I have now finished scanning all the photos I was given, it took a lot longer than expected. They have now been uploaded and have put in about 1/3 of the decriptions that were written on backs of each photo. I will hopefully have the rest of descriptions done by Wednesday night....So please keep popping back for a look at the descriptions...Please let me know if you spot any mistakes as the writing is quite difficult to read on some of the photos.
You will find them at the link below Stanley Gallery |
Re: Old Picture Project
Just had a quick shufty at 'em. They look absolutely fascinating and certainly bring back a lot of memories. Thanks very much for all the time and trouble you've taken!

Re: Old Picture Project
Well done AccyRed, have had a quick look through and will have a proper wallow later when I've got more time but just a quick look brought back so many memories, Ash Hoskins, Paul Beck - ah those were the days :)

Re: Old Picture Project
Fantastic pictures - great memories of great and not so great past players and some reminders of the horrendous grounds we had to endure in the past. Some of them make the FES look like Wembley in comparison.
There's so many players who I can recall, but also quite a lot whose names I can't quite spit off the end of my tongue. The facial hair on some of the photos are absolute classics. Thanks for your efforts!! |
Re: Old Picture Project
Hi all
I have put in the descriptions for all the photos that had them written on the backs...So some of those tip of the tongue names might just be there.... :D |

Re: Old Picture Project
Just been having a look through myself and I remember quite a few of those games.
I think the lad in this picture might be Darren Thornton, right winger who's stanley career came to an abrupt halt when an oppo right back put his elbow right through Darrens cheekbone, leaving him needing surgery and metalwork to fix it. |
Re: Old Picture Project
Some superb pictures there.
Brian Welch was my 1st Stanley hero I think. He scored the winner at my 1st ever away trip. I seem to remember travelling down on a 30 seater bus to Colwyn Bay with no other than Mt Loweiy amongst a number of others. Good times |
Re: Old Picture Project
Bumped into Lee rogerson this weekend at the Pack horse in Belthorn, he is still a top chap and has some great stanley memories, me thinks he should be on the pitch as guest of the club soon :-)
