Hyping up Rochdale

right folks, we took over 800 to Chester, around 900 to Bury on a tuesday night and used to take about 800 to Morecambe every season. How many should we be taking to Rochdale?

How many home fans do we have? about 1300? right then, we need every single bloody one of you. Lets nominate this match as a 'bring a friend' game. I know that technically you should have home matches for this type of initiative but a good away game is theee best drug for a prospective new fan. You lot provide the numbers - the Ultras will provide the noise. Rochdale spouted loads of guff about how many they were gonna bring to the FES, well bully for them they brought a few, fair play to em and thanks for the money. YOU DID NOWT WHILST YOU WERE HERE THOUGH. I have honestly heard more noise in Accy library than what 1200 first time, new derby, away fans made. It was pathetic, it was a shameful effort. Can you really see the Ultras failing to rise above their feeble offering?

You bring your mates, fill a car instead of just your passenger seat. Better still - try to raise a minibus from your local. See if you can get 10 to go. Whoever you stand or sit with at the FES, have any of them intimated that they are not going? Do not let them back out of this. It is a potential dogfight, a six point shootout between the old Lancastrian, perennial losers who have occupied the 89th spot of the Football League for 34 years, and the Pride of Lancashire, new boys in town who absolutely must maintain their hard won Football League status.

Every man, woman and child of Stanley blood needs to be at this one with their heart on their chest and their scarf held high and held proud. Ultra display of the very highest order is required and will be given. After the Bury game (in which almost everybody joined in the singing towards the end) one of the criticisms of the Ultras was that they were not directly behind the goals to help everybody join in. Well this time we will be in the ground earlier and will sit more central. Anybody who sings at all will be most welcome to stand with, beside, in front or behind us. Anybody who doesn't sing but has been known to join in with the occasional chant as the games demands - sit a lot closer to us. Anybody who doesn't want to make any noise at all - sit a little further away just to allow all the noise to be central and not having to bridge gaps.

The drums will be there, the horns will be there, loud hailers, streamers, confetti, every flag known to man, lets have the kids getting their faces painted in the pub before hand.

Can we do this?

I'm there already, something like Bury away with bells on. :Banane51:

Could I suggest we all take cricket style cards, with 4,5 or 6 on, to judge the diving with ;) , or has he changed?

[I believe the scoring can go up to 10, but he was crap at it :) ]

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

Superb post Macca.

99% sure that away supporters are housed in the Wilbutts Lane stand which is opposite the main stand ( ie: not behind the goals) and seats 4000.

Get Mick Schultz on side to speak to their safety people so they know our travelling numbers and to see if drums will be allowed.

We will be close to the left winger for one of the halves, and we wouldn't won't him to play to well;)

Every game is vital now, we need 20 more points asap and we may be running out of "winnable" games. Rochdale dispite their new signings falls in the "winnable" bracket IMHO:)

Even better :D . Triple pike with a twist gets added difficulty marks, BTW.

Unless there is a drastic upturn in performances, I'd be surprised if there's 200 there from Accrington in a month's time.

We will be there Macca - should be a good day out. Just one thing though, the more stick our lot give Rory, the better he's likely to play and as SouthernRed says we don't want that so probably best to leave him alone :)

Don't think it's in Rory's make up to respond in a positive way, pity really, he'd be quite a player if it was. :(

Anyway, slight distraction from the main point. Could be the biggest, and hopefully best day of the season, let's fill those seats, well, a lot of them .

Tin Monkey, you brighten my day ;) .

I'll try me best to make it there, and if I do, I'll be joining in with the noise. Ill try and get a few of work-mates to get off their lazy behinds and come along.

Should be good, now lets show them Rochdale lot what a real set of fans sound like!

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

Macca comes up with great ideas and enthusiasm constantly, but does the club entertain his ideas ? majority of the time i think the answer is NO. I will be enticing at least 10 mates to this game who dont go religously but have stanley in there heart aswell as man u, rovers, liverpool etc. I dont want to attack the board but it has just left it as common knowledge that 'stanley are back' and not took advantage of for instance 'the mansfield replay' fiver admission would of possibly got more on. ew pockets must be bursting while we still cant get a pint at the back of the clayton end ,or a roof ,let alone spending anything on additions to the squad. Round and round in circles it seems to be. I think we will take 800 easy ,its closer than bury probably.

if and when we ever get the OSC moving then organising transport to Rochdale is something we should definitely do. Rossendale Transport will take anybody who gets the bus from Accy to Rochdale centre for around £3. I am sure that if we were to book 5 or 6 buses with 75 people on each they would do a cheaper rate!

Makes sense. I'm up for that idea...

top idea the thing that gets me is were not involved in the pubs we should sponsor a few events like pool comps and things just make part of their prizes a couple of stanley tickets there mates would soon follow...

Copied this from Rossendale Transports website:

Off Peak & Weekend

(Valid after 0900hrs Mon- Fri £3.00 £10.00 £3.00 £9.00 £8.50

plus all day Sat & Sun)

When you get on the bus just ask for a day rover. The bus driver will know what you mean. Dont chuck the ticket away and use it on your way back. That way its only cost you £3.

maccawozzagod 04-02-2007 23:48

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

cheers Shillelagh. I knew it was around that price. Need to speak to them about laying on extra buses - that way we dont get shoppers getting in our way and we dont have to keep stopping!

There will be a few of us coming up on the train from wolves ive read that the ground is a few miles from the station any body no if there are any decent pubs around the ground for a drink or would it be better drinking in the town and getting a taxi to the game.

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

Have spoken to Rossendale Transports Logistics guy, he was glad of the call as he didn't fancy 500 or so football fans disrupting his saturday service. He is putting together a plan and will come back to me.

Apparently it is quite a trek from the bus station to the ground so he would rather take us straight there (good), however the unmitigating factors are that no stops and going off the public transport route makes it a private hire and needs tachographs, drivers having the correct time off during the week, different prices, separate license etc.

I have explained that if the cost varies form the £3 then people will just use the 464 service and make their own way anyway so it would defeat the object. Hopefully a plan will be formulated today and I will let you know.

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

Have spoken to Rossendale Transport again, the message is that we WILL DEFINITELY be running a fleet of double deckers from Accrington Centre (prob bus station) direct to the ground. The price will be as it would be on the 464 service. The service will be numbers pending. I will be taking names and deposits at the next home match. Could anybody who wants to go this game on the buses please ensure that they seek me out in the clubhouse priior to the Stockport match and give me names and money for anybody they want to take with them. Exact details will follow as I get them.

Good work Macca.

maccawozzagod 05-02-2007 16:25

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

yeah should be Shaker, if there is any variation it will be minimal, but would be due to the bus going all the way to the ground rather than the bus station.

Good work Macca.

This may go a little bit too far, but what if the bus ticket got us into the Bristol Rovers game, say £3 cheaper on the following Tuesday?

(Suppose that's up to Eric, not you, pity :( )

Kiwi John 05-02-2007 16:38

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

Ummmmm...how come you ain't using Fraser Eagle ??????????

maccawozzagod 05-02-2007 16:54

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

I've just sent a grovelling apology email to ASFC explaining that there was no intent to upset Fraser Eagle but as this is a one-off and only just down the road it is far easier for Rossendale Transport (who operate that line anyway) to utilise the buses that aren't used on a saturday (they dont run the double deckers on saturday) at the standard operating cost. Fraser Eagle were asking £10 for the travel on their luxury coaches. RT are asking £3 for their less salubrious but perfectly nice, new and clean, double deckers.

Most fans I have spoken to over the last few weeks have said they would drive, taxi or whatever rather than pay a tenner. I agree, for Bury away (£10 on the coach) 6 of us got a taxi minibus, return to the gate and back to a pub of our choice for a fiver. If people were going to use the 464 anyway then it makes sense to make it official for this particular occasion and avoid all kinds of problems at Accy and Rochdale bus stations and across both town centres IF the maximum amount of people travel.

I expect to get some flak from certain quarters for upsetting the sponsored apple cart, but people would not have supported that coach in numbers. I have a responsibility to the supporters as Chairman of the OSC to try to help where I can, and I have. This should go a long way to ensuring that the maximum possible number of people are in that stand come March 3rd, and hopefully many of them will be new fans who will get bitten by the bug the Ultras will spread. All we need now is for the team to start helping us out a bit with a few points between now and then.

Paper Boy 05-02-2007 17:13

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

Well done Macca. This is the kind of proactive thinking that has been sadly missing from the Club and the OSC for some time. It's win-win for everyone involved. I'm sure this kind of forward thinking will benefit us all going forwards. I will certainly be on the bus and, will also subscribe to the OSC purely based on your efforts.

I understand Fraser Eagle may be a little put out, I guess they could always come back and match Rossendale Transport's price!!

Every credit to you for your efforts.

maccawozzagod 05-02-2007 17:59

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

still a bit shaky on the exacts John, but they would like the buses staggered so as not to overwhelm Accy bus station. I would imagine from 12-12:30 and then every ten minutes until they are all away. Depends on the numbers really.

Will need volunteers for the Stockport game to ensure we offer the bus to every available person. Also if anybody wants to knock up a poster and take to their local (KSH any chance of something for download?) then that may galvanise a few. RT said they would put a poster up on their 464 buses for a fortnight beforehand. That should rile a few Spotlanders!

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

right, official word is that the buses will be arriving at 1pm for a departure of no later than 1;30 from Accy Bus Station. I would imagine it will be Infant St.

As soon as a bus is loaded it will be away so those who want a drink at the other end can get on the first buses and those that dont can wait a little while.

You will pay on the bus as you would normally do for the 464 service. Adults and children (sorry) will be £3. Senior Citizens and disabled will pay £1 (50p each way - may have to pay separate trips not sure yet) on production of their NOW card. Their will be a mention in the Observer and Telegraph regards this by the end of the week and I will be taking names at Stockport just to gauge how many buses will be required.

The buses will collect almost certainly from right outside the away end immediately afterwards and will leave as soon as the police allow. There will be a latest set off time issued and any stragglers will be left.

This price (OAPs a £1!) is too good to miss so make sure you are booked on!!!!!

AccyMad 06-02-2007 10:15

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

Well done Macca, will definately be booking the 3 of us on. Thirty quid on the Fraser Eagle bus was a bit steep so this is a brilliant idea, I'll give you the money at the Stockport game

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

pay on the buses Accy mad. For £3 it would have been better for me to take the monies, but RT want to do it 'on the buses'

maccawozzagod 06-02-2007 12:08

Re: Hyping up Rochdale

right slight change to how we'll make sure everyone is informed of the travel plans, its pointless taking names and deposits because then I would have to find everybody on the buses and refund them! The Stockport match we will hand out leaflets with the full details on them and a mobile number they can ring to confirm numbers. All I need is willing volunteers to hand out leaflets and make sure that everybody has one. I need somebody to man every turnstile so that is 6 people. I'm one, who is going to be number 2?
