U aint the only one Doug - very depressing indeed!! I dont know how we or the players can raise the bar [except the pub ones in commisseration]:(
Very sad indeed! |
Re: vs Swindon
rightio, next week I'm in the cow shed. We need some morale boosting atmosphere at the FES. The Clayton End is not capable at the moment of making the right sort of noise because there aint enough people on it.
Anybody with me? Lets have the whole ground going for it next week - if we dont do Torquay we're done for IMHO. |

Re: vs Swindon
Bit more optimism required I think. If you start thinking you need to win loads of games it looks bleak, but if you think that you only need to match the results of the 3 teams below you for the rest of the season then things look a bit brighter.
|
Re: vs Swindon
its about the noise Cowboy, we know it doesn't work because it didn't at Rochdale, but after a long travel for Torquay the last thing they will want is the atmosphere right on top of them on the line. They'll crap themselves getting a throw in down there

Re: vs Swindon
It's really worrying ,
The team are full time but there does not seem to be a single professional amongst them. The current team just aren't good enough for the conference let alone the league. How many teams have we beaten on the way up who were bottom of the league. Are the current players happy to admit it was only a two men team that got us up here in the first place, or are they going to show us the Accrington tenacity that we have continually supported through thick and thin. |

Dunno but it could have involved Leam's fingers seeing recent events, Shrek must not have liked it :D
PS - Shrek's the keeper - Przemyslaw Kazimierczak, which would you rather pronounce :) |
Re: vs Swindon
Just got back from the match - and sad to say,we were very poor and in my opinion, never looked like scoring.:(
Swindon outclassed us in almost every department and from where I sit, it is not looking good. Let's just hope we can put this behind us and beat Torquay next week, though with their 3-0 defeat of Wycombe today, even that must be looking doubtful. |
Re: vs Swindon
Also just returned from the game. I totally agree with Urban Spaceman. There is something clearly wrong - and let's stop blaming the loss of Craney and Roberts. I accept that Gary Roberts was playing well, but Craney looked very ordinary in some of those early games this season (how quickly we forget!!) and only showed signs of a return to form when he took on a more forward role.
But they've gone - they are history. Individually, the present players are giving their best, but it is not enough. In the games I have seen in the latter part of the season, we have been tactically inept. We resort too quickly to the long ball through the middle seeking a flick on from Paul Mullin. I have yet to see evidence of any move worked out on the training ground. A player in possession has to look where colleagues are - there is never any suggestion of playing the ball into space knowing that someone will be ready to run onto it. So, too often we are caught in possession while waiting for and looking for the movement. I also have to say that I am growing very weary of Messrs Coleman and Bell constantly sniping at the officials. I would like them to spend more time and effort encouraging the team, and changing tactics as the game progresses. Defenders have learnt how to snuff out the threat from Paul Mullin. There is much more to be said - but maybe not here and not now. |
Re: vs Swindon
We were in trouble before jc put roberts up as a striker. He never made the signings in summer, never mind january. Craney, Roberts and Elliott minus them from the squad all last season - we would of been lucky to make play-offs.
|
Re: vs Swindon
It's not Coley's fault for the lack of signings.
Transfers are difficult things with no finincial backing. |
Re: vs Swindon
I wonder if any of the Stockport fans who visit this forum could tell us why there has been such a big turnaround there. Is it new players? Is it a new manager? They were in a precarious position at the end of last season.

Re: vs Swindon
John Colman was on Radio Lancs. this evening, he stated he’d never felt so low and depressed since his Mother and father Died. His voice and tone was of a man suffering from great disappointment and despair.
He made it clear that we needed to import new players if we are to stay up and that was is aim although he said it would be incredibly difficult to find them. When asked if the club could remain in the league he basically said not unless he could find a couple of new players. This was a grime message and a blow to hear. We need to get behind this man and his team and press home our wholehearted support and just pray that the existing lads gel together and they work with any new players coming in and keep us up in the league. Everything is possible to those who believe. |
Re: vs Swindon
Then if that is accurate its erics fault.
If jc cant lure players then who is to blame? Powers of persuasion seems to be an attribute mr coleman does not have. He picks the team, He picks the players brought in, He decides who goes, he decides who rotts away without having a chance, he decides who to release, he decides what formation to play, he decides to stick with utter ****e, he decides to go to spain for a treat for playing so crap, he decides to play tennis in afternoon training ( Granada Reports ), he decides on training methods, he decides they dont do any upper body work ie weight training, he dosent rate david brown (prefers mangan?)etc etc etc etc. So mr coleman is entirley faultless. He took us from the unibond to conference to league - forever gratious. But this season has proved he isnt up to this level. |
Re: vs Swindon
Jc seems an honest hardworking man. He admitted months ago that maybe he had let sentiment rule his decisions. But still continued to play them to this day. I like the fella, its not personal its football. Its a tough game and can leave people totally dejected when they are rejected, or sacked - thats the game. Its a mess, but if Jc does leave im sure we will find the truth out about him being financed to make moves etc.

I also continuously notice a lack of creativity at dead ball situations and an inability to change tactics. We play one way and that's it. Much of that will be due to the quality of the players and their ability to play in different ways, but a large proportion of it must also lie at the feet of the management team. And before people start screaming, I'm not calling for Coleman's head. The problems at the club lie much deeper than at the level of one man. |
Re: vs Swindon
Let's stop the post mortems and try to enjoy what remains of the ride. I am hoping to get an exeat to attend the Macc and Milton Keynes games as the last Accrington league and league fixtures respectively.
There is a strong correlation between league positions and team's wage budgets. On that basis John Coleman has done a reasonable job. We go down with him and Jimmy at the helm. Marvellous though the supporters who come through the turnstiles are the town of Accrington has not shown much of an appetite for league football. As with the old Stanley there lies the root of the problem. Whenever I arrived I was dismayed by the number of young people travelling out of the town in the opposite direction instead of going to the match I had travelled over 80 miles to see. Against this background I think the club needs to hang onto the most successful non league management partnership it has ever had. I for one was not one of those people who considered the Conference Trophy an irksome reminder of a non league past that Stanley had put behind them for ever. No one who attended the Chester away game could think that. I thought it was quite possibly the pinnacle of Stanley's achievement. |
Re: vs Swindon

Therein lies problem one - we need to attract more support for the last 5 home games of the season. It aint over YET! Herein lies the second problem. Yes both John and Jimmy are the best Stanley managers for a long time, and yes they are both excellent non-league managers, however, we are now Football League, even if it is for another 9 games only. Things have to improve if we are to survive. |
Re: vs Swindon
The fact is we are in this situation because the club has less now than what it had when we won the conference.
If we do get relegated, which is very likely, we will struggle in the Conference and will have to rebuild yet again. I for one feel let down. |
Re: vs Swindon
BUT THINK OF THE POSITIVES!!!
Half-time pints again and we'll all be happy and the Dingles and Darreners will be flooding back through the gates! |
Re: vs Swindon
macca you're deluding yourself buddy, the segregation thing now it has been imposed is likely to stay, so you're gonna need that much talked about clayton end bar still I'm afraid.

Re: vs Swindon
I reckon the club will take the money first Sparkie. Bar shut next season equals club shut pretty much!

Re: vs Swindon
I forecast on the thread we'd lose by 2 clear goals at Swindon.
At least we didn't concede 4 as I feared. Any one who saw them under Wise at the FES will know that they are a strong team. When Wednesday were in League 1 a couple of years ago they beat us at the County Ground and were generally play off contenders. They should never have got relegated. They have since acquired Wednesday's management team, the most successful in Leagues 1 and 2, who rebuilt Plymouth from League 2 to a Championship outfit and turned Wednesday from League 1 relegation contenders to a play off winning Championship side in the space of six months on very little money. Stanley need to treat all their home games as cup finals and accumulate as many points as they can on their travels. If they scrap for everything they have the ability to pick up some points away and even the odd win there. Unless the points deduction makes it inevitable I trust Coley and the players not to accept that MK Dons' programme could join the Ebay picture frame as our last in the League. |
Re: vs Swindon
Exactly haggis316!
Its down to the players on the pitch to pull things around, only they have the skills to do it. Despite everything wages, amateurish attitudes or whatever, its the men on the pitch who are the ones playing and who we are paying to see. They should be playing for there own pride, for their own place in the football league. If they just aren't good enough or don't think they are good enough they have no place playing professional football at any level. Accrington has always had a reputation for never giving up no matter how long the odds may be and now is not the time to start. |
Re: vs Swindon
yesterday was not good but its gone.....the main thing that strikes me is looking at yesterdays programme and seeing our squad numbers in the 40s....showS we havent had a settled side all season which cant be good for morale or team spirit.
3 points next week are essential ON STANLEY ON |
Re: vs Swindon
Whatever happens, just enjoy the ride. Of course if we stay up it'lll be wonderful but it's no the end of the world if we go down. A club like ours has no right to be in the League, and we should be over the moon to be here. Crowds, stadium etc show this. Last season we won the Conference with the 14th highest wage bill. We have been punching above our weight for the last 6 years. Essentially we're (at best) a mid-table Conference club who struck it lucky and got a once in a lifetime opportunity. If we go down, we can do it with pride. When teams like Barnsley and Swindon talk about their brief stints in the Premiership they talk with pride. Pride that their little club shook the establishment. So should we. How many Conference promotees worked the way up like us. Very few, the majority are all League drop outs (Hereford, Carlisle, Shrewbury etc).
If we go down we can say to the likes of Alty - "look, at least weve been there". Finally how far do you realistically think we can go. Were any of you really expecting play-offs this year? I think our recent succcess has gone to some peoples heads. People who preffered winning in the Conference to struggling in the football League need to sort their priorities out. Coley will be hear next year. Get over it. |
Re: vs Swindon
It’s true that we were very poor going forward yesterday, but we’re not being helped by some of the decisions that come our way. I know that some of you on here are fed up with the management team griping at the officials, but yesterday was farcical. Coley set the team up to defend with men behind the ball, and it worked for 48 minutes. We knocked Swindon out of their rhythm, and for a period in the first half looked settled in the middle of the park, with Jay, Rommy and Toddy combining well. We didn’t create much, it’s true, but we were competing well and the home crowd were starting to get restless with their lot.
<O:p</O:p Then came the incidents. Firstly, their No.10 Peacock, a tattooed thug masquerading as a centre-forward, launched himself into Kaz, and concussed him. The home fans bayed for Kaz’s blood on the basis that they thought him time-wasting. The ref gives us a free-kick but does nothing to punish Peacock. Just minutes later, the same player does Almeida with a similar challenge (I’ve heard that our lad might have a fractured cheekbone?). Again the home crowd boos Almeida for time-wasting and does nothing to punish Peacock. Net result? Two injured players (who both carry on after perfectly reasonable amounts of treatment time), no disincentive for Peacock to carry on the dirty play – and (here’s the killer) FOUR minutes of extra time for Stanley to survive. In the fourth minute of this, the ball hits Leam’s hand (absolutely no intent on his part) and the ref gives the pen. By this time its 3.55 and we should be back in the dressing room geeing each other up after a good 45 minutes, but because of two vicious challenges and resultant injuries to our players, we’re still out there and get a harsh decision with seconds to go to the break. <O:p</O:p You might think this just another way of finding excuses, but I can sympathise with Coley when circumstances combine like this. We’re playing in big stadiums with home crowds well-versed in pressurising referees, and with experienced opposition who constantly niggle away at the officials too. The refs give the easy decisions. Peacock even had the gall to whinge incessantly when the ref did eventually pull him up for yet more foul play. The gamesmanship is brazen – and it’s something that we just haven’t learned to combat during the season. |
Re: vs Swindon
Peacock will be conscious and feel under pressure that Sturrock (see my current Avatar for the get up he wore as a dare against Reading on 22/4/06)transfer listed him owing to his low scoring rate at Sheffield Wednesday in January 2006.
He must have been dismayed when Sturrock (six weeks after signing a new 3.5 year contract despite Wednesday's bad form) was sacked by Dave Allen and followed him to Swindon. He will recall that Sturrock shipped out his co striker Onebuji who caused us such problems and created their goal at the FES as almost his first move. After the Stockport result Sturrock had a few sleepless nights and had the team well geed up for Stanley. |
