Consequently precious time is wasted trying either to get the ball to the right foot or to give it to someone else who might have a chance of a right-footed shot. Then, before you know where you are, the chance has gone. I'm sure a left-footer would have buried two or three yesterday. (By the way, this doesn't mean that I'm advocating a return for Sean Doherty!)

You've got a point there Oldgobbin.
We blagged it yesterday because though Whalley can't cross at all with his left, Torquay's right-back had the IQ of a toe-nail & couldn't work out that he was always allowing Whalley to cut in on his favoured foot.
We desperately need an out & out striker, even if it's only on loan until McGivern is fit. Mullin is playing deeper and deeper as his game is coming to an end, and Mangan hasn't got the strength or ability to beat the defenders in this league.

Mangan need's to learn he is a striker and not a winger. If he was to stay in the middle he will have many chances at goal.
As he keeps drifting out of position, the ball gets crossed to nobody, and Mullers knock-ons go nowhere.

I care for none of the problems blighting our team at the moment, for yesterday brought a feeling back to me that I have not felt for some time. Sheer relief, joy and ecstasy at a goal.

Every goal brings a certain amount of pleasure but that goal really meant something and we have not scored a goal like it since Woking, seeing as I wasn't there that day the previous really important goal was at Exeter when the third went in and with it the realisation that we might just win the Conference after all.

I screamed like a girl when the net bulged then fell silent. My mouth was open and I was making as though there were noise coming out but I was empty. The crowd yesterday got behind the lads and gave it their all especially in the last 10 or 15 minutes. The right songs came out at the right times and got the right backing from the crowd. It was probably the same people singing in the same places as usual but with a bigger crowd around you you seem to give it more and a few extras join in.

Yesterday was awesome, from seeing a big crowd again, to hearing the Come on You Reeeeddddddds bellowing out as it should, to scoring a late late late goal in keeping with the script, to seeing Gulls fans turn on each other- then the team- then smashing the team coach up! Then there was the obligatory sing song in the clubhouse - again been missing for a while, followed by more drunken frolics in the Oaklea.

More discount days please.

In a previous thread a few weeks ago, I wondered about the possibility of trying Michael Welch as a striker. Surely it's worth a try. And if he scores a hat-trick, he could always be used as an extra defender to safeguard the lead!

Godwin Antwi - where to start. Class act and mom in my opinion theres no-way in this world we have 1 million to spend on this guy, but what an edition for however long his stay is. Thats what you call a defender, 18 years old coming into a new team, enviroment and bollocking williams and giving the defence direction and leadership - class act. Brilliant loan signing jc. I thought the clayton end sucked the winner in and it was brilliant to see the home allocation taken even though it peed down. Can we have a striker rafa please ? craig lindfield I have heard in the grape vine is one for the future.

Its a shame but there are rules about how many players you can loan from 1 club and I think the most is 2 at any one time. Currently we have David Martin and Godwin Antwi. Was there no-one everton could lend us after last weeks friendly?

From the Torquay forum:-

" It was unbelivably cold and wet. It wasnt just any rain though - it was the kind of rain that blows right into your bloody face! I hate the North. "http://www.torquayunited.net/yabbfil...ault/angry.gif

One of the better weather days I thought - southern softies or what? Mind you, if they will come dressed for the beach................:D

It’s something you tend to forget when you move away from Accrington is how bloody cold it is when the wind blows and the water comes in where the roof should be. I spend most of my walking time in the lakes in the wind and wet (I’m a bit weird like that) and it as to work exceptionally hard to beat the cold of Accy rain.

In response to the chaps from the south and those nice people from Wales due up on Saturday, if you venture north wrap up warm and be prepared to become men on Stanley’s terraces because we don’t mind our open aspect or our inclement weather.
