welchy up front
welchy played up front last night for the reserves he scored one of his trade mark 25 yard free kicks and was involved in both other goals any comments?

Re: welchy up front
Tell him to make sure he scores a few on Saturday - from whatever position he plays :D

Re: welchy up front
yeah, don't tell Revived Red - he's been advocating it for weeks!
Didn't see the first half but in the second half he looked a handful without actually doing anything. Hard for the defenders to deal with because he can mix it with em but his footwork let him down. You can tell he is isn't a forward because of it and I don't think that League 2 defenders would have the same problems as Carlisles' young lads had. However I think he did enough to prove that he would be useful to throw up front alongside the regular strikers if we desparately needed a goal. |
Re: welchy up front
Surely with 2 big men up front (Welchy and Mullers) then the wide men would have some wonderful targets to aim for, and he has a wicked free kick as a back up.

Re: welchy up front
Still no out & out striker though.
Bringing Welchy on up front for the last 15/20 could help, but I think the more favourable and glaringly obvious option of starting David Brown is too quickly looked over. |
Re: welchy up front
David brown played the full 90 minutes in the centre of midfield at the reserves game last night. Make of that what you will.

Re: welchy up front
Yes I agree with you shakermaker, David Brown is to easily overlooked by the management, in fact I was suprised that there was no substitutions last week, but hey what do I know, I am only a supporter of the club. Maybe have Browny and Whalley out wide to aim at Welchy and PM, now that might just be the start of an attacking line up to fear, especially now Jay Harris is out due to suspension.

Re: welchy up front
David was all stripped and warmed up to come on on saturday, then we scorded and he sat back down!!!

Re: welchy up front
How can I let this pass without comment??!! I think he and Paul Mullin would be a real threat. I can agree, Macca, that his footwork may not be ideal but that problem seems not to have held back the career of Peter Crouch. And at least Welchy can head the ball.

Re: welchy up front
Not sure I agree with your besmirching of Crouch - if anything Crouch is the opposite of what he should be, i.e. no body strength and poor in the air but tidy on the deck!
|
Re: welchy up front
im going to have to agree with the charming man on that - crouch is dreadful in the air but decent with his feet.
by the way this charming man, have you still got that light that never goes out? |
Re: welchy up front
We'll have to agree to differ on the merits of Crouch. This thread is about Michael Welch - sorry I introduced a red herring. Oops, back to Crouch there!
