Sean Doherty

so anybody know yet why Ipswich have offered him a trial? or if its true - I haven't yet been to the ground to ask for confirmation

trying not to be rude to the lad, becasue he IS better than he has shown us, but he wasn't pulling up trees at Port Vale and can't even get a regular place on the bench here - despite our lack of left footedness.

I hope he goes there, does well but not well enough and then comes back eager to prove the world wrong.

But I'd still like to know why ......

Re: Sean Doherty

He'd have done well to hit a seat in the stand. there 3 milesfrom training ground!! Mind you the way our strikers are playing that would have been quite close!! I think he was there with Gaz as he was poncing around in the new kit having his pic taken!!

Hope ur well mate..!!

Re: Sean Doherty

I'm just wondering how they knew anything about Sean, he's hardly played in the first team, for obvious reasons. Ok he played a few minutes on Saturday but surely they haven't handed him a trial on that basis - I mean even he couldn't cause any damage in the time he had on the pitch. As Toyah said 'It's a mystery'????

In East Anglian Daily Times today. Magilton states that "he knows Sean's dad well and he is mates with Gary Roberts but not the reason for the trial, the main thing is he feels he has a good pedigree"

Yea - sorry I couldn't resist. To be honest though, when Sean came to us he was gonna be the best thing since sliced bread and there's no doubt he has skill but he's scared to death of tackling or being tackled. Whether thats because of the injuries he's had I don't know but he's just never lived up to his 'pedigree' here.

Here is the full article from the East Anglian: (couldn't find a link)

A former Everton youth team-mate of Wayne Rooney is today on trial with Ipswich Town.

Sean Doherty, who played alongside Gary Roberts as Stanley earlier this season, is looking to clinch a deal with the blues in the summer when he becomes a free agent.

Town Manager Jim Magilton who was last night working with BBC Northern Ireland said, " I know Sean's dad well and he is a friend of GR but really we invited him down because he is a lad with real pedigree. He was in the same youth team as WR at Everton and he went to Fulham but never really got a chance. Sean is a free agent and this was a good opportunity for him to have alook at us and for us to see him at close quarters.

Left winger Doherty was a promising youngster who won seven caps for England youth teams but after failing to make it at Fulham after a controversial move there from Everton, he had a spell in Holland at ADO Den Haag.

The 22-year old also had stints with Blackpool and Port Vale and a loan spell at Southport b4 making the last of his 18 appearances for Stanley as a late sub V's Hereford last weekend.

That concludes the Story from down 'ere. Watch this space for updates.

Does he become a free agent in the summer? This is what Coley said when he signed him.

Sean can play on either wing and can also play up front, and has signed an initial one year deal with a second year's option depending on appearances this season.

That says it all really - he's fine as long as there's no other player around who might potentially hurt him in a tackle. Good luck to him if he makes the move but I really can't see him making it
