Incident outside the ground yesterday
Just seen on the local news that a Stanley supporter was beaten up & is in hospital, apparently he saw some bloke abusing his girlfriend outside the ground after the game yesterday and tried to intervene to help her, only for the bloke to knock him to the ground & then kick him till he was unconcious. Don't know who the supporter involved is, just hope he recovers quickly and the idiot who did it gets what he deserves

Re: Incident outside the ground yesterday
Just read about this on teletext... Hope the man involved is going to be ok...:(
Seems police have arrested a 35 yearr old accrington man on suspicion of carrying out the assault. It just goes to show that you're not safe being a good samaritan these days. Also makes you question what you would do yourself under the same circumstances...:( |
Re: Incident outside the ground yesterday
Bad news indeed, AM. It's the lead story on ceefax at the moment. Apparently, a 35 year old man from Accrington has been arrested. Hope the guy who got attacked is OK.

If it was just verbal, I'd keep out of it. There are too many crackers women in Accrington. If he hit her though then he deserves a good kicking. |
Re: Incident outside the ground yesterday
I heard this on century radio this evening. :( Hope the man involved will make a full and speedy recovery. :(

Hey, the 'incident' happened at 1940..........
twenty to eight!!! Two & half hours after final whistle!!! I don't think it's 'football related' as much 'drink related!! |

Re: Incident outside the ground yesterday
I got the impression from the news earlier today that they had been in the club at the assault took place on the clubs car park. Can anyone put a name to this unfortunate chap? Is he someone we may know? Is there anything we can do for the chap?
I accept that you can’t intervene in every incident but if this woman was been physically assaulted then I would hope that most of us would do something to help her, that said the assault on this gentlemen sound quiet horrific and we can only hope the perpetrator gets what’s due to him. I hope his condition improves and that his wounds heal well and soon, we can only hope that there’s not to lasting affect on him as a result of this, |
Re: Incident outside the ground yesterday
Whilst the incident cannot be football related, the fact that it happened outside the ground, mud sticks etc etc. Just hope the guy who is in hospital makes a speedy recovery and the guy who was arrested, if guilty is barred from entering any area within a quarter of a mile of the club - for life. This sort of supporter we can do without.

According to the LET site, neither man had been watching the game.

Re: Incident outside the ground yesterday
It happened in the club car park, according to the LET. "It is believed" both men had been drinking locally, so yep, looks like the only connection with the club is an accident of geography. TV news is showing pictures of the ground eveytime they run the story, though.

Re: Incident outside the ground yesterday
So, it turns out that the poor guy who was attacked was a Stanley fan, after all. He's facing the possibility of "facial reconstructive surgery". Hope they really throw the book at the perpetrator.

Re: Incident outside the ground yesterday
Stories like this are very sad. There was some trouble in a pub near me this weekend.A bloke was shouting abuse his girlfriend and threatened to hit her.An older chap, who did not know the couple, intervened and asked the man to calm down.He was then headbutted and woke up in hospital with facial injuries and missing teeth. It's very sad but it seems it's not worth it to be a good samaritan these days and at the first sign of trouble you should walk away. Not easy I know but these days you could be killed for your trouble. It's just not worth it.
