I think if you look at the season as a whole we`ve mostly lost by the odd goal, only Bristol have give us a hammering, we`ve also scored 2 and 3 goals against some of the teams up the top. All told it adds up to a goal difference that compares very favourably with the teams around us.
I don`t think we were counting on any points from this game realistically.
But if the Monkey Hanging sided comentator was praising Stanley`s battling performance then I guess they did OK.

Got back around 20 mins ago.

Well done to most of the lads today.

Jay Harris had an awful first half which was disappointing, Doherty his usual uselessness, & Mangan - well I'll have to see his incident from a closer angle but I for one can't wait til that hot headed little turd is out of here.

David Martin, Rocky Williams & Andy Proctor - ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. These three inparticularly outplayed Hartlepool throughout, I'm extremely proud of the way they battled til the end.

Unlucky lads - 1-0 to the ref :(

On no it wasn't a penalty. It was a flaming swallow dive worth about 6.0.
If that was a penalty, why wasn't God sent off as he was last man and clear on goal. Not even a booking. The referee was conned good and proper as he was all afternoon. Paul Mullin was nearly throttled on a couple of occasions and we got nowt for it. Yet everytime we tackled (and I mean legally tackled) the Monkey Hangers fell over like a sack of spuds. Not one booking for diving to them. Methinks BBC radio Cleveland, if that is the correct radio station got it spot on, we maybe did not boss the game, but I think we gave a good account of ourselves. Never mind, rant over - Bring on the mariners for a damn good thrashing.

Re: Hartlepool game

I thought we may have done enough for a point. Looking back on the game Hpool had a few close efforts, hit the bar twice and missed a pen and how Barker missed the open net only he will know. We also came close, Sean had two efforts well saved and mangan should have done better with his one on one. First penalty was a penalty for me, no need to challenge like Jay did when the ball was going away from goal. The second one was no way a pen. But to be fair to Richie Barker he didn't dive. If you look at the Tv replays he was just outstrengthend by Godwin and got up an his reaction was of suprise when he saw the panalty was given. I also have sympathy for Mangan. He didn't kick Nelson, he tripped him and Nelson should be ashamed firstly for saying something to mangy and then rolling over like he'd been shot. A yellow would have been suffice but mangy should never have made the ref make a decison, he should have just walked away. All in all a good game from the boys in red especially proccy, rocky, dave martin and cav. Keep going boys and we'll surely be safe..

Do you actually believe anything that you have just wrote there?

We hit the bar twice, went clean through once, and your keeper made a superb save that Barker would normally put away 9 times out of 10 PLUS two penalties, we had 8 corners to your 1 and our keeper didn't make a proper save all match. You were never in the game, you made it hard for us admittedly as you packed the midfield like lots of teams do but not once did you seriously look like you were going to score.

As for Nelson, he is a superb player, probably the best in the division and you will see this when he is named in the Team of the Year. Opposition fans every week compliment him on what a player is, if he played for you he'd be the greatest footballer to ever grace your horrible little pitch. In November one of your players spat at him, yesterday one of them kicked at him because he didn't like something he said yet we're the dirty team. This season you have had 90 bookings and 9 sendings off, we've had 45 yellow and 2 red. I think we know who the dirty team are out of the two, don't we?

For one, Nelson is not a brilliant player. He's little above average. However his and Hartlepool's experience at knowing how to play the ref shone through yesterday. We'll get it with time, however for now our style of playing to score, not to win penatlies, will have to do.

Paper Boy 10-04-2007 17:53

Re: Hartlepool game

I've got to say that I think we are in danger of letting our hearts rule our heads with some of the comments regarding yesterday's game.

We got absolutley bombed by Hartlepool in the first half and could have easily gone in three or four down, but for some last ditch defending and a large slice of luck.

Second half was better, but they were still the stronger team, whilst our best chance looked like being on the break or from a set piece.

Overall they deserved to win, they were the better team, but the fact that victory was only achieved due to an inept bit of refereeing for the penalty makes it hard to swallow. We had battled hard all afternoon and I thought we had ridden out the storm, but that pen was a real kick in the teeth after what I felt was a 100% committed performance by the lads.

Yes, Hartlepool did play the ref, but you see this at every level of football (unfortunatley). We didn't help ourselves when Mangan kicked one of their players and got sent off when we had a set piece in a good position. In my opinion, he's doesn't posess the ability required and has a crap temperament. We need eleven players on the pitch in games like this and he should be severley reprimanded for his actions. I for one, will be totally gobsmacked & gutted if he's still with us next season.

Re: Hartlepool game

Well I came away from the match thrilled with our battling performance but with a sense of injustice because of:-
1) The fact that were charged more for entrance than the home fans.
2) The biggest steward I've ever seen (belly like the front of a French TGV train) who confiscated my mate's plastic horn then referred him to the boss man who said "We don't allow musical instruments". When asked why he said " We just don't". When pressed again he said "We don't allow noise!" Then we gave up.
3) The 2 Accy fans being reprimanded by 2 more jobsworths for smoking on the concourse outside the stand, even though other stewards had said it was allowed.
4) Jase being marched off - what was all that about?
5) Only 2 minutes of added time (should have been more like 5 or 6) just when we were throwing everything at 'em, including Martin up for the last-ditch corner.
5) Oh yes, the bloody ref who was busting a gut to get the diving monkeyhangers' promotion party going.

Fair enough, they battered us in the first half but we got to half time level due to some good luck and heroic defending, and in the second gave them plenty to think about. In my opinion, and I hate to criticise anyone wearing the red shirt, we effectively played with ten men for the whole game. Leam made more of an impact down the left in his few minutes on the pitch than we managed in the previous eighty-odd with the starting eleven. He should start as our left sided attacker at least until Whalley is available.
Hartlepool are strong all over the pitch and will be promoted, but their theatrical prowess belongs more in the Premiership than Div.1. The Stanley boys did us proud yesterday, though.

That would be against league rules but the home end opposite the away end at Hartlepool is £18 admission which is the price they should have charged you.

Have you actually considered that we're not a bunch of divers, and that you're just a bunch of horrible, dirty, non-league cloggers who played a superior side and could only compete by kicking us at every opportunity?

Watch that sending off again and tell me that you believe, hand on heart, that Nelson dived for the sending off.

If you are 'proud' after that performance, it sums up your team as you were very very average and deserved nothing.
