Best moments of the season
Currently trying to get a fanzine ready for Macclesfield game, want one article summing up this season...so come on whats your best or worst memory so far this season?
mine has to be that weekend in torquay....that my best weekend or at least what i can remember of it was good :drink::alc::cheers::alc::drink: |
Re: Best moments of the season
the march from Peel Park at the begionning of the season was excellent. Watching the look on residents faces as we chanted our way past was great and seeing the kids running alongside was also heartwarming
The Notts Forest game was also good as we had our sights set much higher than a relegation battle at that moment and we truly believed for a rose tinted moment that we may trouble the top end of the league! But the highest point of my season was Cavs' goal at home against Torkey because that was the goal that kept us in the league. I hadn't felt emotion like it for a long time and that goal meant as much to me as the first I ever saw, or Mully's goal at Woking, or Goucks' goal against Huddersfield. It was the icing on the cake of an action packed game that 4000 people saw for free. |
Re: Best moments of the season
For me, as I only got to one game this season, it also has to be Cavs freekick v Torquay. The relief when it flew in was just something else and I believe it was the start of the team being able to believe that we will ensure that there are 2 worse off teams in this league come 4.45pm on May 5th.

Re: Best moments of the season
Enjoyed the march, but from my 3-games-so-far season, tops for me was the last 10 minutes chanting along with the drum at Watford. Sheer footy mania, even got the missus going !

Re: Best moments of the season
There are a few for me -
The chant at Chester "He's got his mums knickers, on his head" to the gobby Chester fan. The Groundsman at Bury who didn't want the subs playing on his pitch at half time. The fleet of Buses to Rochdale. Welchies goal against Stockport. But Like Macca said, Cav's goal against Torquay, in front of a full Clayton end. and taking 1 relegation place away from us. |
Re: Best moments of the season
Torquay away was a great weekend, but I think Coley doing a Brian Kidd run into the centre circle after Toddy's last minute winner v Posh, is the one for me. That said it all, a celebration and shear relief knowing you are staying up.:dogrun: :dogrun: :dogrun: :dogrun: :dogrun: :dogrun: :dogrun: :dogrun: :dogrun: :dogrun:

Re: Best moments of the season
For me the 2-1 home win v Barnet-our first goals and points of the season which proved we would be competitive.
The announcement that we were to be charged re player ineligability was a real low and the subsequent clearence a real REAL relief. |
Re: Best moments of the season
The equaliser at Macclesfield.

Re: Best moments of the season
Best moment hasn't happened yet, I'm hoping someone will stick their leg out and trip Ince up when he's walking on
|
Re: Best moments of the season
A close second for me was Steve Evans' face after the last minute winner at home to Boston.
|
Re: Best moments of the season
Cav's goal. Last minute and we get a freekick. A season full of almosts weighed heavy on any optimism that dared to escape me, however surrounded by 4000 a glimpse of hope sneaked out, the returning Stanley captain stepped up with quiet confidence. He hit the ball around the wall and senses stalled. For a few seconds I was stood still. Then the atmospere swallowed me, the relief of months of disapointment vanished in an instant. Pure bliss.

Isn't one of the female Stanley fans from round Harwood way specially trained for that sort of stuff ? :D |
Re: Best moments of the season
The Peel Park March and the opening speech by some bloke called Macca, tear jerker for the faithful or what.
Welchies Cannonade at Stockport. Stanley’s belated recovery to form. |
Re: Best moments of the season
Best moment - Our first League game away to Chester, nearly brought a tear to the eye
Worst moment - Losing so badly to Rochdale after taking so many fans and singing like buggery. We were awful on the pitch Bittersweet moment - Getting my Stanley Tattoo done, so painful, but yet so great at the same time |
Re: Best moments of the season
been alot of memories this season, our cup run, the trip to watford, wlechys goal, stuffng wrexham 5-1, cavs last min goal against torquay, just a few to think of

Re: Best moments of the season
what about the first 'STANLEY ARE BACK' at Chester? Sung with gusto, pride and passion.
|
Re: Best moments of the season
The JPT games against Carlisle and Blackpool would be high on my list, as would the Notts Forest and Watford games.

Re: Best moments of the season
I think my best moment was the weekend in Torquay and especially Gary Roberts scoring that brilliant second goal.:D :D :D , although the fantastic atmosphere at the Carling Cup away match at Watford has to be right up there (and incredible that Diesel could keep that drumming going for so long and generate such an amazing atmosphere, as Chimer has said).
My worst moment is easy - the 4-0 away defeat at Bristol Rovers two days before Christmas, when just about everything that could go wrong did go wrong (Mangy was sent off in the second half) and we really struggled to fill the subs bench. What is more, there were very few Stanley fans there (unsurprising with it being just before Christmas) and it was freezing cold !!!   My feet took a couple of months to thaw out ! ;) Gary Roberts leaving was also not a great moment (just 3 days after the Torquay match) but Stanley have managed without him and Ian Craney and I am sure that next season will not be as angst filled as this one ! :) ONWARDS AND UPWARDS STANLEY !!! :Banane06: :Banane06: :Banane06: |
Re: Best moments of the season
The weekend in Torquay is special for me and seeing John in the dugout with a helluva hangover. The Torquay game was great as well as the huge sigh of relief when the goal went in. Also a plus for me is the way we have played these last 7 or 8 matches, even if we have lost by the odd goal away from home. The whole team pulled together.
On the down side, The referees in this league are pure crap, except for the guy last week against Grimsby. Like others, I was at the very first league match at Chester and home match against Darlo. I mourned the loss of Gary Roberts and Ian Craney, however, after some tough times, we seem to have turned the corner. we have all worried about the possible points deduction, but all sighed a huge sigh of relief when it all came to £6,000 plus the same amount suspended. All in all, I think the majority can live up to John Colemans favourite saying WE ALL KEPT THE FAITH! Onwards and upwards for next season. |

Re: Best moments of the season

Re: Best moments of the season
For me, travelling to Spotland in a fleet of buses and showing the Dale what it means to be a supporter by outsinging them even though it was probably one of the worst Stanley performances I've seen this season.
Also, the Torquay match. Even before Mullin scored, it was obvious that the team were on form again and owning the pitch like a pack of terriers. The three points just made up for the fact that I got soaked to my undercrackers. The final high came as my mate texted me with the verdict of the football league hearing at Preston. |
Re: Best moments of the season
Oooh ****** how could i forget the hearing ...... add that one to my list - cheers growler:D

Re: Best moments of the season
Agree with all of the above. The late winners at home to Wycombe and at Barnet were also good moments, but something that sticks in my head is something more personal, before the Watford League Cup tie. I work close enough to Watford to be able to catch a bus to the ground, and when I first moved down south we were in the Unibond First Division, so the idea of watching Stanley at Watford was almost inconceivable. We were playing at the same level as the local side Northwood FC and getting roughly the same gates of a few hundred or so. Anyway, having caught the bus from work, as we approached Watford town centre I saw a couple of lads in Stanley shirts walking along the road, on their way to a pub no doubt, and this momentary sight served to emphasise again just how far we had come in such a short space of time, to be playing a Premiership club – and having beaten ex-European champions to earn the right to do so. The sight of those two lads in their Stanley shirts gave me a great sense of pride and it’s a moment that I cherish.

Best Moments For Me Making So Many Friends At The Matches And Of Course Toddys Winner Against Peterborough
|
Re: Best moments of the season
Personally the crowning glory to this season was David Brown belting in the 1st goal against Hereford while the Clayton End were all singing Cart On.
Dreams DO come true ! Worst moment would have to be missing the Freebie, more the ground packed, because of St Patrick`s Day in Derby. |
Re: Best moments of the season
Apart from all the great match moments, like Phil, my most cherished memory is a more personal one. I was on a train from Piccadilly to Nottingham, travelling to the Notts County match. As the train went along, various supporters got on...Stoke fans on their way to Barnsley...Rotherham supporters going to Chesterfield...and an exiled Sunderland fan en route to Derby. We were all chatting to each other, asking the usual questions...who are you playing today?...how do you think you'll go on?...where are you in the table? As we talked, it suddenly occurred to me that, after years of having my nose pressed up against the sweetshop window, I was now a member of that most coveted of clubs - the magic circle of football league club fans. What a fantastic feeling...and long may it continue!
