Any transfer gossip yet?

Thought I might as well kick off with something....

I seem to remember a rumour at the end of last season linking us with ex-Woking striker Justin Richards. Richards of course went to Peterborough instead, but has now been told he isn't required for next season.
I know it's unlikely that he'd come this far North for the kind of money we pay, but Coley does have a reputation of never giving up on a transfer target. ;)

Sean Doherty comes from Basingstoke doesn't he?

Re: Any transfer gossip yet?

We might have more luck attracting players now. During the last transfer window a move to Accy looked to be direction conference to glory hungry youngsters with any talent. Now we`ve confirmed our league status for next year I think more players might want to start a new campaign with Stanley.
Hope so anyway.

shakermaker 06-05-2007 23:01

Re: Any transfer gossip yet?

Hate to seem so pessimistic but I don't see any established league players wanting to come here unless they're on their way out.
We obviously can't afford to spend anything & we won't get any transfer fees coming in.
Hopefully we can poach a few talented youngsters from the lower leagues.
Who needs a transfer budget when you've got sell-on clauses.

Re: Any transfer gossip yet?

We'll possibly never spend the kind of money that the fans want us to spend unless we buy unproven but class players from the lower leagues. We are probably better off spending the money on facilities off the pitch that might entice the better players.

But Eric has said the money is available though we wont pay stupid money. We went for players like McClean who commanded a silly figure and most likely silly wages - hasn't done much at Peterborough though has he? Same again with Justin Richards, one good season for Woking and then Peterborough come in with a bid of around 200k! now they are offloading him. He could maybe be a good acquisition but not for fee's anywahere near that. There would be uproar if we spent 200 grand on aplayer who turned out to be crap. I'm not knocking Sean Doherty per se because he has had problems, but a player of his calibre and reputation could have cost us a lot of money, its just a good job he didn't

Tin Monkey 07-05-2007 07:19

Re: Any transfer gossip yet?

My understanding is that there would be no fee involved for Richards. Posh are releasing 5 players, 2 of which would command fees. Richards was not one of those players.
I'm not even sure Posh paid money for him in the first place, but I stand to be corrected.

Re: Any transfer gossip yet?

There is a general opinion among Burnley fans that Graham Branch may move to Stanley, although Blackpool may also be his destination.

He does qualify for Stanley because his nationality is scouse :)

Re: Any transfer gossip yet?

Branch wouldnt get in the team. But if he will be a squad player for 50 quid a week get him. He would be nowhere near the blackpool first 11 either.

I guess you have seen him play a lot more than me so I guess thats one off the list then.

Tin Monkey 08-05-2007 17:51

Re: Any transfer gossip yet?

Well Branch has been released by Burnley and on Radio Lancashire tonight he said he'd only heard rumours, but no firm offer from anyone. He said he definately wants to carry on playing, so there may be a chance.

He's been a very good player, but didn't play much last season. If we could get the best out of him, I'd definitely have him in our team.

I'd prefer Tugay, if he doesn't sign a new contract (wishing);) . He is class! :D

well David Dunn was at Clitheroe last night and Steven Garrard was at the FES earlier in the season so if we could land those two it would steady the midfield a little for next season :D

Branchy would be great for us!

I am a Burnley and Stanley fan because I was born in Burnley but live in Accy, Branch can still do it and I think he could well get 10/15 goals down at League Two level!

Still has pace, he is an excellent target man and can put the ball in the net. Burnley have tended to play him as Left back or Left Mid so he doesn't get too many goal scoring opportunities.

yeh we did. also blieve Ian Moore is not at Leeds anymore, if he could discove the form he had at Burnley he'd be an ok signing, but i think he was one of leeds so called big boys wage wise, and to be quite honest dont think he'd drop to league2, although he was quite dissapointed not to be offerd new terms at Leeds so who knows. We need a young goal scorer with pace and i cant think of any one. (that we had a chance of getting)

Seeing as Coley likes to scour the lower leagues ther's a brilliant young midfiellder at Clitheroe at the moment. Has scored plenty of goals and is being tracked by much bigger clubs. The names Joel Byrom...Oh no hang on...;)

Seriously Branch IMHO is over the hill.

Another classic example, Joel wasnt given a proper chance as he was injured.

The guy doesn't need any more money he is absolutely minted with his football career and property portfolio. Maybe a club like Stanley would be a good stepping stone to a career in coaching.

Re: Any transfer gossip yet?

I noticed mention of Ventre and Mangan in the Accy Observer, but it seems to have gone very quiet about Browny - anybody any news/rumours about him yet?

Its Kenny Arthur you guys are interested in
Arithmetic Keeping Ian Busy At Jags (from Evening Times)

Thistle keeper for the past 10 years and still only 28, would be an absaloutly fantastic signing, fans who travelled upto glasgow last year may remember his double save at the near post.
On the bench for Scotland a few times while we were in the SPL and its just coming into his prime in goalkeeping terms.
Also has an astonishing record at saving penalties, best save ratio in britain for a few seasons, saved 4 in a penalty shoot-out 2 seasons back!

Anyway best of luck to the big man, cant help but think that league 2 is a bit below his station though, no offence intended

will be sorely missed

nice one, sounds quite good.

But I was under the impression we were signing somebody to work with Fearon and Dunbavin (ie an older guy who would be doubling up as coach) rather than somebody to keep em both out! Never mind, a quality addition is more than welcome.

Realisitically I can't see both clubs chasing the same player. :)
