First Item on sale at the OSC Do friday night

1 Attachment(s)
Attachment 9252

the picture doesn't do it any justice because I had to use my webcam. Any sort of light just reflects straight back.

Petrol Lighter with engraved " stanleys' supporting Accrington Stanley" logo on the front.

They come in a protective plastic case as well and are priced at just £5.

You will also get your 10% discount if you were an OSC member last year.
They would make ideal gifts for fathers day as well which is only 3 or 4 weeks away so please a couple if you are interested.

We need to sell as much of the first batch of stuff as soon as it comes in as we have paid out over a thousand pounds this week for merchandise, badges and cards. Without the proceeds from sales we cannot order the next batch of products.

Yep, Macca designed and thought up the name/logo.

The OSC members thought it was a good 'un and voted it in.

Didnt want to use the name Accrington Stanley, or the club Crest so as not to confuse it with 'Official Shop merchandise'...........hope this helps Baggie!

Nice macca! One question - you say petrol lighter, are they the real deal?? I mean Zippo's??? At that price I doubt it but thought I'd ask

And if they are, has anyone ever tried lighting a candle with a Zippo? Not the easiest thing in the world!

Re: First Item on sale at the OSC Do friday night

to light a candle you pick the candle up and offer it towards the lighter rather than vice-versa.

stanleys' it is hoped will become the brand of Stanley. The long term goal is high up as possible. The 'brand' can be applied to (example) a Supporters Bar, a shop in town etc. If the people get behind the idea and buy products from us on a regular basis then these ideas can work. We will have cheap, tacky, novelty items and we will have more expensive, nicer, quality items. We will also have a range of products that goes down the middle.

The launch products will be:

3 t-shirts @ £5
A Coley image (retro-similar to Guevara in design)
A silhouhetted image of fans waving flags with 'we are they' underneath.
A 'Cart-On Stanley' design influenced by the Coca-Cola design

An £8 layered t-shirt. A long sleeve shirt really but looks like it has a t-shirt over the top.

A £12 polo shirt. This of a superior weight and fabric than your average polo and is in white with red colourings on it.

£5 petrol lighters. Obviously not Zippo at that price but still a good weight and feel to them. They are highly poilished and the engraving on them is absolutely tip top standard. Come in a plastic display case. Around 10 already sold, 40 left

£9 Umbrellas. 30" round bottomed handle and in red and white quarters. This will be a limited run of 50 and we have already pre-sold around 15.

£4 re-usable shopping bages. Made from a bio-degradable cotton and with long handles. Initial order of 20. These are all the rage at the moment and me mum reckons they'll sell out quickly.

A range of £5 baseball caps in blue, red, white, black. They are a low profile six panelled cap and will feature the logo embroidered on the front.

£7 hi-viz baseball caps. Similar to the standard one but in greeny-yellow (orange may be available later for the railway workers amngst you) with a hi-viz strip across the peak.

There will also be a large range of Supporters Club paper products such as historical booklets charting the progree of the club through the years, stickers albums, posters, postcards, birthday and christmas cards. It may take alittle onger to have these products on the shelf but they will be ready before the new season.

A set of core values has been established that basically ensure that we will only sell quality items at the right price. We do have to make a profit but we are not obliged to make a percentage mark-up as most companies would. Therefore we will add to the range at some point with unbranded products that should be markedly cheaper from us than on the high street. We can also secure workwear at prices cheaper than I have ever seen commercially available. A 50% mark up would still ensure this is cheaper than you would normally buy at.

We also want to be on the ball as regards topical merchandise. If we have a cup run we will have a t-shirt ready to react to that by 2 days after the draw. If we wanted to have everybody on the terrace wearing a plain red t-shirt, we could do that ridiculously cheaper. We would like to fund hand-outs for events like the Carnival (not this time though unfortunately). Hand outs such as red and white stanleys' balloons, whistles, toffees - whatever.

Just remember all along the way - this is our club. Everything we do is for the good of the club, every pound we make is for the development of the club. Every product we shift is rasing the profile of the club. It is not Official Club merchandise but it is Official Supporters Club merchandise. I will stand next to anybody selling hooky gear outside the ground and sell our stuff over his head. Lets not let money and revenue go anywhere other than back into the club.

The logo was designed specifically so as to differentiate from Offical club stuff. It was designed to avoid the complexities of printing the crest and to avoid the cost of the four/five colours of the crest. It was designed to be able to stand alone from the club or the OSC to avoid funding and copyright issues. I can't see our chairman trying to stop us selling but any future chairman might. The people behind this operation are all committed die hard supporters and we shall endeavour to supply our fans with the products they require and to supply our club with the revenue it needs.

Please keep an eye out where ever possible for our new launches. We will have a newly revamped website fully operational before the new season begins. It will feature an online shop where anybody can order from. We will be represented at this years Carnival, Mela and Barrowford Show. We have sanctioned the purchase of a 20' x 10' party tent that will give us more of a presence at these events so please come over and have a chat with us if you see us.

I hate to be picky, but as "there's only one Accy Stanley" it should be

Stanley's

not

Stanleys'

Best wishes from the Lynne Truss society for correct apostrophisation :)

maccawozzagod 17-05-2007 22:39

Re: First Item on sale at the OSC Do friday night

I was ready for this one.

apostrophe after the s denotes belonging to; apostrophe before the s denotes a letter missing as in Stanley is; no apostrophe denotes plural.

the brand belongs to Stanley therefore is Stanleys' brand

maccawozzagod 17-05-2007 22:55

Re: First Item on sale at the OSC Do friday night

didn't get time to edit it.

The stanley branding will apply to many different avenues of revenue (hopefully) therefore would be Stanley brands.

Thats where my multiple comes in ;)

ie Stanleys' brands (now that is wrong because there is still only the one stanley but when the general brand becomes stanley (no capital neither) and there are numerous of them, it becomes stanleys'

It could also refer to a load of people called Stanley :o

You are more right than me Chimer  but I am not accepting incorrectness because it is deliberately ambiguous :p

Chimer 17-05-2007 23:19

Re: First Item on sale at the OSC Do friday night

Feedback comes in two forms, good and bad, to the point I don't like the Stanleys' brand. I want to wear stuff that shows I support Accrington Stanley. I want to wear a t-shirt whether at work or on holiday that people can see it's an Accy Stanley t-shirt, Stanleys' does not work for me sorry to be blunt Rob but that's my opinion.

Apostrophe before the s denotes belonging to and/or a letter missing i.e. Stanley's brands - brands belonging to Stanley
Stanley's not here - Stanley is not here

Personally I would prefer something with Stanley's on it than Stanleys' on it - There's only one Accy Stanley so how can you have a plural Stanley. Perhaps you could give me an example of a punctuation correct sentence with Stanleys' included in it.

on behalf of Accrington Stanley and Accrington Stanley Supporters Club, I would like to present the brand of the Stanleys' ......

clutching a bit

I've already stated that there is a deliberate ambiguity about it and that it is representative iof the many facets of Stanley and that it is an umbrella logo for the hoped for many guises of the brand.

IF...... the people involved in the organising of all this gear think that we should shift the apostrophe then we will (PM please) and maybe if more people had been involved then the debate about it would have been a bit longer than me offering my reason why it was done and everybody being happy with that.

That makes the lighters more valuable now if they are going to be a one-off ;) .

Personally, I prefer it to be wrong (but right for my reasons)

Macca - Sureley it should read 'I would like to present the Stanleys' brand' This would indicate that there is more than one Stanley and that it is the brand of many Stanleys, as there is only one Accy Stanley it should be Stanley's brand, but it is up to you and yours, but personally I don't like seeing apostrophes in the wrong place

Without turning this into an offensive thread, (and I don't know if you have sufficient reason - e.g. location) but if you had made the effort to come to the meetings, you could have had your input?

Re: First Item on sale at the OSC Do friday night

woah tigers - Jeff I admitted that Chimer was right just like I admit that you are right. The laws of the apostrophe can become complicated and grammatically speaking we are wrong. However, as it is 'our' (belonging to many ;) brand that is how we wanted it to read. Ergo we are right too.

And for every Stanleyite that posts a thread saying it is wrong, or right, we get another 'bump' up the threads. For every Herefordian who posts it on Confguide (inbreds carnt even speeak English) we get another plug/advert to the wider footballing world. It's (correct?) blatant Google Page Ranking matey.

JEFF 18-05-2007 12:50

Re: First Item on sale at the OSC Do friday night

All season there have been postings on here about Stanley being amateurish and getting things wrong and now the OSC are doing things wrong on purpose. Maybe Stanley did things wrong on purpose last season just to get the publicity like the OSC. I just don't think things should be done wrong as it gives others amunition to ridicule.

I am not aksing for any input, I am merely joining a thread on the messageboard. If the OSC are happy with things being done wrong on purpose then so be it, I shall say no more on the subject.

Cheers Rob for not slagging me off as you where entitled to do because I did not attend the meetings when the items where discussed. As a buyer and that's what I am I thought because the OSC is taking a risk with these products a bit of feedback might be needed. I asked people at work what they thought, Stanley fans, football fans and non-football people. I got a mixed response some thought it was good, some bad, quite a few agreed with me that they would buy stuff with the name Accy Stanley only, 3 people thought you trying to promote a new bar in town, maybe The Crown if Eric buys it ???
I hope what is being produced does sell because the committee has worked hard on this but the general opinion from my survey was not good on the Stanleys' brand but good on items with Accrington Stanley OSC name.

wooooooo now this has caused a bit of a kerfuffle where none is needed...right...wrong.... it was all decided on a while back by the committee and then passed by the osc (well those that come to the meetings anyway!!)

Bagpuss...below the Stanleys' logo it states "supporting accrington stanley"

and some of the t-shirts with the coley image will clearly demonstrate what we are about.... as macca has pointed out we have to keep the design completely away from ASFC's as we didn't want our merchandise being confused with theirs... hence using the name stanleys'

tbh any feedback is good as we can then build on it for the future merchandising we may indulge in...

we're new at this and we're trying...very trying :D

I know, that's why they thought it was a new business (pub) showing their support for Accy Stanley by producing a promotional t-shirt.
I can see why they thought that, I suppose thats why feedback is important before lots of money is spent.

If it doesn't work then it's OSC money that is lost. The OSC will have the take the brunt of mismanagement, if it was a decision taken by their elected representatives and the wrong decision was made.

Personally, I don't like it and I think it cheapens the product, while enhancing its tinpottedness.

Whatever the opinion u have to give Macca credit for his efforts on behalf of the OSC, saw him earlier in town running round like a mad dog getting the stuff he needed for the OSC do, & sorting merchandise out in his time & the commitment he has put into - you have to give the guy credit for it:thumbsup:

I've sent my opologies for not being able to go [for good reasons!!] but hope it is a success & hope the merchandising takes off, but expect some people will take some convincing tho. Good luck to the committee, cos at least its trying & producing new ideas into the OSC:D

Ok your opinion but not sure why it cheapens the product when we are hoping to produce products that people want and in some cases the club don't provide.... some have been mentioned in threads before...

In my opinion, the product looks amateurish if the logo is mis-spelled or incorrect in any other way. OK, so it gets people talking about it, but they aren't talking positively, they are laughing at it.
Stanley have for so long been a laughing stock and continue to be so. I don't think products with Stanleys' on it are going to change people's opinions.

I am 100% in support of this venture and truly hope that it is successful. I just wouldn't buy a product with Stanleys' on it. That's all.

tbh any feedback is good as we can then build on it for the future merchandising we may indulge in...

we're new at this and we're trying...very trying :D

well if eric buys the crown he can rename it stanleys' then the supporters club can be based there problem solved stanleys' the home of the supporters club..supporting accy stanley hey presto:banhat: :banhat: :D :D

That'd be brilliant, Stanleys' bar right outside the ground with its own readymade merchandise! Sadly, I think the rumour may prove to be unfounded. How about a whipround to raise the £27,500 for the 5-year lease and then install Macca as manager?!! :D

Don't know about figures, but a pub outside a football ground should be real earner!

This is what we really need, people who come up with an idea for stuff and then research it themselves and can then send me the details further down the line. This saves a heck of a lot of time for me and also may help to get somebody else interested in things.

I can't promise we'll buy something just because you have researched it for me, but it will be discussed periodically at the merchandise meetings.

By the way C'mon, that site looks quite expensive as the beach balls at £4 odd I can get for less than £2 with our own logo printed on! But keep up the good work, some Karma on its way ;)
