New Keeper Signs!!
On Fishy Site..!!
Scottish goalkeeper Kenny Arthur has signed a one year deal at Accrington Stanley, making the move south from Partick Thistle. The 28 year old 6'3" shot stopper was Partick's longest serving player with over 250 appearances, and played against Stanley in our friendly match at Partick last season. He played in the Scottish Premier Division for two seasons with Partick, and was also selected for the Scottish national team by Berti Vogts, on the bench for the home game against Iceland and away at Lithuania. Re: New Keeper Signs!!
He had a testimonial at Partick last year and is currently leading a poll amongst Partick fans of who should be offered a new contract.
Seems like a good signing. Here's hoping. :) |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Hi all.
Just seen that Kenny has signed for you and he will be sorely missed by all at Firhill. A true legend who has been with the club through all the good and bad times over the last 10 years and when he has been offered to go other clubs for bigger money he has stayed true to us. Unfortuntely last season he was treated like garbage by the ex management team and was subsequently not offered a new deal, which was met by anger and sadness by the majority of our fans, after all the years of service he had given to the club, also since the other keeper who he is viewed to be better than by most was given a new two year deal while he was offered nothing. I assume your manager also seen him make a couple of top class saves in the friendly last year as well? :D If given an opportunity to become the first choice keeper he'll definetly do a job for you. |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Got yourself a good keeper there, im raging at the way he was treated during his testimonial season by our ex manager.
Anyway our loss is your clubs gain and i will deffo be checking in next season to see how the champ is getting on. Scotlands Number 1 - King Kenny |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Another Jags fan checking in to say good luck to Kenny at his new club. You've got yourselves a fine goalie and a great pro. Left Thistle very much against the wishes of the fans only because we're broke and he's out of contract.
Hope a few of us will be down to see you guys play some time next year. All the best to Kenny and yourselves for the new season! |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
I got all excited when I saw the headline 'Coleman signs Keny' - thought we'd somehow captured Paddy Kenny :). Anyway, sounds like some positive comments from the Partick fans for our new signing - so fingers crossed he'll be a good asset

Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Sounds great, just a bit concerned that Coley could've confused Scot with Scouse!

Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Trust me guys, I'm a Partick Thistle fan, and have been for just a few years longer than Kenny has played for us. He is one of the best goalkeepers in Scotland and I wouldn't say he was unfortunate not to play for a bigger club, its more to the point that he was too loyal to us to move elswhere. The guy is a true legend and is seen at his best defending penalties. Go onto Video Highlights | Pressbox | Partick Thistle Football Club and check out the highlights in the Peterhead game. We were 2-1 down going into this 2nd leg of the Playoff finals for promotion. We won 2-1 then it went into E.T. then penalties. Kenny won that game for us in my opinion and he will never be forgotton as a true Partick Thistle legend. We can only wish him well and hope that a few of you visit the Partick Thistle forum on ptfc.net - Home and let us know what you think of one of the best Scottish goalkeepers in the game this day. A true legend. And yes, he was our number one on the wishlist but the guy, in his testimonial year, got treated unfairly and dropped out of the squad to a young Northern Irish goalie who is shorter than the average man and isn't a patch on Kenny in my opinion, even tho he has had a call up for the nationals. Kenny never got that high because we're in too low a division and he was too loyal to us to make that leap up.
Get onto the Jags forum, let us know what you think initially and what you think when you've seen this guy play! DJ The Jag |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Looks promising, can we have your No.9 as well :D

Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Quick sour point - Partick conceeded more than any other team in Scots First Division last season....
Partick fans...is it your defence that's bad??? |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!

Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Great signing for you guys, sorry to see him go, shame the way the previous management treated him.
Best of luck big man, there'll be a wee drink at the bar for you next time youre back in glasgow |

so he'll be used to Coley and his tactics then? seriously guys, its hard to lose one of your best players and one you think highly of, we've just lost Andy Todd for nowt as well and it rankles. If any of you guys would like to sponsor his shirt this year then it will go in every home programme as Jags fans or whatever. 10 of you, £10 each (or 5 and £20 etc) and at the end of the season one of you will win his shirt (worn) Interested? |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Wow...seems the bloke was genuinely loved by Jag fans...Should feel right at home with our defence :)... does this mean no Martin?
|
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
:DSounds like a great addition to the squad one thing was for sure we couldn't carry on with loan signings in such a Key Position as Goalkeeper not knowing if they were staying or going sorry to see Martin go, but with Dudek on his way and potentially Carson. Martin will now go up the pecking order at Liverpool Good Luck to him just hope we get Godwin back for the full season the guy is class and it's got to be better than playing Reseve football every few weeks.::cool::cool:

Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Sounds like another good signing by Coley.:)
Welcome to Stanley Kenny - I'm sure you'll be a great keeper for us - good luck ! :D:D:D |

Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Excellent testimonials from Partick fans. Thanks lads. Hope you will continue to follow Kenny on our threads and contribute to them. I have been following Partick's fortunes since the times when Bertie Auld was manager and Alan Hansen and Alan Rough were players there.
A third brilliant signing by Mr Coleman. More please. |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Another Thistle fan here, you've just signed a fantastic shot stopper,if you're ever in a penalty shoot out don't worry about it, also a true modern day legend at Firhill, sad to see him go, your BOD obviously have more ambition than ours.
His burd is an absolute stunner too ;) |

Evening chaps.
Have to say, not only have you signed a fantastic keeper, but a true gentleman to boot. There's also the small matter of the couple of hundred or so new fans you've just gained north of the border. Hoping to make it down with some of the boys during pre-season to show our appreciation to the great man. All the best for the future. One Kenny Arthur, 'mon the Stanley! |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
we've got two friendlies up that way that you could swell the away support for!

Re: New Keeper Signs!!
another jag down to say you got a superb keeper. I am gutted Kenny has left. hope you guys see the best he has to offer. as an earlier post said, if it was not for Kenny we would have conceded many more goals.
on a side note. if you guys go to Brechin I think you will like the ground. one side is a Hedge. |

Re: New Keeper Signs!!
I've been there..way back in 76 while on my big OE...Raith gave Breccy a right old pasting- 4-0. 24 p for a pint at the local and 3p for programme.

Re: New Keeper Signs!!
I'm loving all these great testimonials off thistle fans...will love standing behind the goal now...to see his prowess in goal you understand :D
|
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
a good catch by stanley, will be interesting to see how the big guy copes with the sudden drop of standard of football from the low leagues partick were in to the english 2nd division:rolleyes:;)..:D
I always wondered why he didnt play for one of the bigger scottish clubs... as he's a solid enough keeper...I hope it works out well for him...it may make go to watch stanley now to see how he gets on... |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Brilliant signing by Coley, never seen him look happier than on "Fishy" picture.
Had a brilliant day at Partick last year, and according to a nice piece in tomorrow's Accy Observer that's when Kenny developed his soft spot for Stanley. (Link not yet available) I, also, developed a soft spot for Partick, the fans were brilliant, and had Gary Roberts sussed. :o They also reponded well to Paul Mullin, and it seems obvious we've signed their equivalent. Kenny is apparently the 17th keeper since Jamie!! (Little puzzler for some) Any Partick fans coming down will be well received, and thanks for all the posts. Stanley now have 3 keepers in the goalie's union, hope they bring each other on. (That's 3 more than Bury, BTW ) We've come a long way since Crichton  (16 to go) [I've held back for two days, so that people don't know how pleased I am, didn't work did it, thanks for listening] |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
I'm quite pleased as well Oggy . In fact I'm so pleased that I've sponsered him .
|
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
well from reading the reports on here looks like a cracking siging, great news.
Lets just prey for no injuries. And if dunbavin can repeat his early season form of last season we can have some great compeition for the gloves. |
Re: New Keeper Signs!!
Mini-bus booked for 14 July. At least 16 Jags will be at your game against Burnley.
Looking forward to a great day out. |

Me and 4 others will be coming down as well so make that 20 jags fans minimum for the first pre-season game.
ps. Whoever does your player profiles section on the website needs to correct King Kennys history, he played for Partick Thistle not Patrick Thistle lol. |
