I think that it is a wonderful piece of artistic licence , which , although not recognisable as any specific player , does seem to show the spirit and tenacity that Paul has brought to the team over the years .

So the bottom line is it's ok to spend £2000 on a few twisted coat hangers because it's been done by a young local lad at Moorhead who named it after Mullers. It looks nothing like Mullin but I suppose to you arty farty types that doesn't matter, stop pretending that its art if Mullin hadn't been mentioned you wouldn't have given a toss.

A local lad hasnt done this it is a commisioned piece and actualy Moorhead are going to erect a plaque when Paul comes up to offically unviel it. Stanley are also looking at looking at this artist for a piece of work at the FES. If you read the Observer.

I also don't give a toss if you can't read a story and understand what it says .

Ok then I don't get the Observer until tomorrow so who commissioned it?

Like all modern art there will be people who like & people who don't but as it seems to have caused a stir then it is doing what it say's on the Tin (or whichever metal it is made from!) My personal view is it is iconic as is Paul Mullin.:)

Re: paul mullin sculpture

Now I have read the story I am now certain that it was a wasted £2000.

Re: paul mullin sculpture

OK, let's clarify one or two things here. The statue was not created by a lad it was created by a lass, well if you can call her a lass at 21. She isn't local she's from Southport. She isn't a student she's a fully fledged artist. The £2,000 to pay for the statue didn't come from our council it came from school funds.

You may feel it is a waste of school funds but personally I think it's an excellent way of promoting the school as a Sports College and of showing solidarity with the local football team (whose ground isn't all that far from the school.) It should be an inspiration to the youngsters and personally I like it.

We are short of a bit of statuary in the town so good on Moorhead for commissioning this and I look forward to seeing what she comes up with for the club.

And just to clear up one other thing that was said earlier in this thread. It wasn't commissioned by the Arts Council. They don't do that. Someone would have applied to the Arts Council for the funding and they would make a decision on whether to fund it or not. Obviously the decision was to fund it in which case it's supported by the Arts Council.

I am not a lover of modern art, and though the statue doesn't look anything like Paul Mullin, I think I can appreciate what was trying to be done here.

I like it ! :D

Re: paul mullin sculpture

Moorhead got mega money for becoming a sports college bout £350,000.

WillowTheWhisp 15-06-2007 13:38

Re: paul mullin sculpture

Moorhead also had to raise mega money of its own before being granted anything.
