Crown

Will the crown be an Home fans only pub , mixed or mainly for away fans as it was all last season ?

KIPAX 26-06-2007 16:42

Re: Crown

But it wasn't mainly for away fans last season.. Benny and Barbera had an open door policy and it was home and away fans.. They never made it away fans only.

However you do ask a good question..

Away fans get to the ground a lot earlier than home fans. Just like we do when we go away. They go in the crown because it's nearest and everyone tells them to go there. They fill it up. Then when the home fans try to get in it's full. Thats not the landlords fault..

What will change next season do you think ? Do they not serve away fans and lose money or let them in and it fills up so theres no room for home fans.

Even when we where not getting many away fans the crown wasn't packed pre game.. With no clubhouse anymore the chances are it will be busier.. But not from 11 or 12 am and thats when away fans start to arrive.. If you don't serve them you lose 2 or 3 hours busy custom waiting for stanley fans to arrive.

Whats the answer?

Jesus_was_A_red_ 26-06-2007 18:29

Re: Crown

I think they will more than likely make it open doors. Saturdays when i have been in the crown recently was like walking into a pub at an away day so i will probably stick to a quick one before game at either oaklea or crown rather than spending dinner onwards there now the sports bar has gone prawn sandwich.

Re: Crown

I have always been Crown then Clubhouse but all the time in the Crown it has always been good banter with the away fans, not forgetting there is quite a big outside space at the side of the Crown which is where I normally head if it is a semi decent day.:):)

Nice post Mr. K (see above)

At Walsall we paid £1 to sign into their clubhouse, and were warmly received once in. Away supporters may be glad to pay a quid to see the memorabilia, and then have the banter with the friendliest supporters in league football. ;)

KIPAX 26-06-2007 21:04

Re: Crown

The problem is still there.. What happens when the pub is full of away supporters before we even get there..Paying a quid doesn't mean it wont be full to the rafters at 2pm.. The one at walsall is massive (brill grub) and we paid to go into many others... FGR for example :)

Yes, agree. It's an issue for debate, and ultimately the club. But now the Club get the income, it's better to maximise turnover, doesn't matter where the shekels come from. But if home supporters feel pushed out that's another thing. Would £2 keep the hordes at bay?

Would all home supporters have to be members of OSC?

Points for debate Mr.K, not solutions. :) (welcome back BTW)

I shouldn't get involved anyway, I feel if I drink before a game I'm letting the team down. (Sad but true :o)

Afterwards is obviously very different. :drink:

This could be the answer to your pray's,put a large beer tent up and have a snack bar on the car park behind the away end stand for match days this way you have away fans all in one place and stanley make money and the crown remains mainly for home fans:Banane45::Banane45::):)

Re: Crown

The club are in discussions with the Whittakers about taking on away fans. From a traffic point of view it is ideal as it is straight from the motorway and has suitable access for coaches. It also keeps the rabble awya from the town centre but is close enough for the more behaved daytripper to venture futher down the road. The police could then shift all the coaches at once and close down the Alice st junction for ten minutes whiolst all traffic has passed.

The club are happy with this arrangement as the point of the Crown is to develop a place where the fans can drink all week long as well as matchday.

Re: Crown

they would make a lot of money out of it but would upset there food customers who have gone for a quite meal.

Smiffy16 28-06-2007 16:59

Re: Crown

Why not let away fans in the Crown?

More than double the takings behind the bar which then will be pumped back into the club.....get as many people in as possible both on matchdays and during the week.

maccawozzagod 28-06-2007 17:20

Re: Crown

but then home fans won't go in the same numbers as they otherwise would!

and then they wouldn't feel as obligated to have a few pints during the week etc

or after the game.. 100% agree...

Smiffy16 28-06-2007 17:29

Re: Crown

I agree with you both but it's a catch 22 situation. The majority of our fans turn upto the ground, maybe half an hour before the game, on average, others stop for a pint and others start a dinner time.....But with the away fans they spend a hell of a lot before the game and why not spend it in our pub, were the money goes back to our club. The Crown isn't massive we all know that and it does get crowded on match days but if you get in there early enough then I'm sure it'll be fine.....

Its not a bad problem at all to have because home or away fans? The money will still get spent behind the bar, but I just feel there will be more money spent behind the bar if away fans are allowed in.....

maccawozzagod 28-06-2007 17:30

Re: Crown

an away fan might have four or five quick pints and then move off whereas the home fan might only have two before the game but then three or four afterwards. And they are more likely to behave.

Plus with the clubhouse being closed I would imagine we will see another fifty or so drinkers in there anyway. The downside to the Crown getting all the trade is that the queues around 2:50 will be horrendous

KIPAX 28-06-2007 17:35

Re: Crown

Your right smiffy.. thats why I dont agree with everyone saying benny and barbera made it an away fans pub.. they didn't..They would have loved it to be full of stanley fans from dinner time.. its just the way it happens and will again next season..

Well if they do that then that's fine, thats £10 each 4 pints....get it packed before the game with as many home and away fans as can fit in. Then get it packed with our fans after the game as the club house was after every game last season, then both before and after the game its packed and the money is being spent behind our bar from both sets of fans. IMO if away fans aren't allowed in at the Crown then a huge amount of money is being lost.

This one is a tricky one the cricket club suggestion to me makes the most sense as it would be a big help throughout the year for the cricket club from a finacial point of view, create ties between cricket club & Stanley, logistically it's probably the better option and parking would not be an issue the only downside could be April/May when cricket is perhaps being played on a Saturday.:):)

Re: Crown

We need a place we can call our own. Most clubs have an Home fans only venue. Get Scarfs, shirts, players and fans pictures plastered all over the gaff. I have often walked in and out because it is packed with away fans and how many others dont bother because it was known as away fans similar to the fernhurst at ewood. They can have a host of other pubs that would welcome there money. More stanley fans will go in if this becomes the case. At least have a 6 game trial as home fans only.

cmonstanley 28-06-2007 19:49

Re: Crown

or stanley could get another lease for another pub and make it an away pub on match days .one closer to the motorway or train station;):)

Re: Crown

why not give accy fans a loyelty card that gives them 10% of a drink beetween 11:00am and 1:00pm this might get home fans in earlier and would not break the law on happy hours

The Crown pub will be for Home fans, We have announced to the supporters club that the whittakers arms will be the place for away coaches and fans.

I dare say some away fans may come along to the crown and be well recieved, But we are planning that the crown will be a Home pub.

Whats to stop the Crown filling up at 12-1pm with away fans making it impossible for home fans to use at 2pm onwards...as it always has done?

Thats the question :)

JEFF 29-06-2007 12:27

Re: Crown

Surely the object of running a pub is to get it as full as possible as early as possible thereby selling as much beer, etc as possible. As said earlier in this thread, away fans tend to turn up at the ground earlier than home fans so what is going to happen. Are they going to be refused entry and then directed to Whittakers on Burnley Road? What's the point of running a pub if you are purposely going to turn away custom and keep the place empty until about 2pm. I say get it packed as early as possible so making as much money as possible, after all it all goes to Stanley.

I don't think you can! unless the pub employs security staff with a "your not coming in here in those colours mentality" there will be the porta bars behind each stand which may help to alleviate some of the problem? The only obvious thing that can be done is what has already been done to update the visiting fans section on the Fishy site the problem there is visiting fans will be made up mostly of ones who came last season who have already been to the Crown.:)

We were going to be home fans only last season. But on our first home matchday, we had 20 Bury fans waiting to come in for some food. The first Stanley fans didn't turn up until 1:30pm. If we'd stuck to our guns & not let any away fans in, then we would have lost out on hundreds of pounds. It's the same every home match. Stanley fans either call into a few pubs on their way to the game, or, they come out later. Away fans tend to arrive a lot earlier.

Kipax, we still owe you a couple of pints for letting us use your photo's last season.
