Re: would you resign evil

A few questions need to be answered:
1) Is his fitness in doubt / question ?(failed a medical at Bradford)
2) Are Wrexham demanding a fee ?( their website quotes that he's been transfer listed)
3) Are the club, namely Mr. Whalley and Coley prepared to take a gamble presuming the above questions are answered to their satisfaction.

Admired what he did here before he left us for Wrexham, but it's one of those should we/ shouldn't we ones.Maybe if he's on a free give him a short term contract to prove himself. :)

Re: would you resign evil

No way should the club re-sign him. He had an unsettling influence on team members last time he was here as a squad player. Anyway, looks like JC has the forwards sorted.

Looks like Kipax is right:

Old Boy Lee A Possible Stanley Target (from Lancashire Telegraph)

AccyMad 13-07-2007 12:48

Re: would you resign evil

How do you get that from "nothing's happened at Wrexham to make me think I will be signing him".
If he does re-sign McEvilly it will be the first time he's brought a player back to the club since he re-signed Gary Williams and we all know what a disaster that turned out to be.

Haz66 13-07-2007 19:13

Re: would you resign evil

Sorry i`ve just tipped the poll in favour of resigning him, but despite his alleged unsettling of other players i really liked Evil and was gutted when he left, and even if just for one game would like to see him in a Stanley shirt again, sorry guys.

I would say the chances have risen dramatically in the last 24 hrs.. and not just because he is a free agent..

My fingers are crossed that it happens

Is that.. THE plum per chance?

Owd Bob 20-07-2007 16:59

Re: would you resign evil

From what I hear, Lee has accepted a pay off from Wrexham of about a quarter of his remaining year's salary, and therefore now holds his own registration. Apparently, he wants to move back to Lancs. If he was to re-sign for Stanley there would be no fee involved.

Re: would you resign evil

If McEvilly lives up to his potential at last and plays the way he can, he will be the best signing we've made in a long time (and I've been very impressed with Miles, Carden and Roberts in the few friendlies I've seen).

McEvilly has the ability to put the fear of God into defenders, even those monsters we were up against last season.

The only concern I have is his inability to get along with people, which has been well documented. However, this is a fresh start for him and I wish him all the best. We'll all be happy if he's successful.

Oldgobbin 20-07-2007 18:04

Re: would you resign evil

Speaking as someone who didn't vote in the above poll,'cos I thought that there was no chance of it happening, I would just like to say that I would be absolutely delighted to see him back. It could be a first-class move, both for the club and for Evil himself.

DAV007 20-07-2007 18:24

Re: would you resign evil

do we actually need him?

this is the year for leyton mcgivern to prove himself - i cant see him getting on the team unless he moved to the wing?

He's been linked with every league 2 club in the North more or less! Bury and Chester mainly, i for one would be very suprised if he was to return..

Re: would you resign evil

well it looks like he's back then!

The Lee McEvilly that earned a move up a league is more than welcome back. Our team looks lightweight at the best of times but nobody bullies Lee off the ball. The Lee McEvilly that was allowed to leave Rochdale and Wrexham due to injury and or fitness doubts we do not need or want. This could be a crucial stage of his career because if he bombs out here then there is probably only a downward spiral to the conference and below awaiting him. If he succeeds again, and we know he can, then we and he have a good chance of playing at a higher level next season.

Welcome back Lee

Tin Monkey 20-07-2007 18:57

Re: would you resign evil

If this is a done deal and people at the club are telling others, why haven't the club made a proper announcement?

Bagpuss 20-07-2007 18:58

Re: would you resign evil

Yet another forward and no sign of some quaility defenders. I won't quote Jeff because we all know what our defensive record was like last season. Personally I think we don't need McEvilly back I remember his gestures towards the Stanley fans, but then if Coley thinks he can do a job so be it.

Ahhh.... so he hasn't signed yet then? I'll wait until it's official, as we've been caught out like that before. :)

Re: would you resign evil

If this is true, and even though it seems I'm in the minority I really hope it isn't, how come Coley has catagorically denied it in the Observer?

maccawozzagod 20-07-2007 20:52

Re: would you resign evil

McEvilly was played at centre back in a couple of friendlies (Lancs Cup) not long before he left, Mully could probably do a job at centre back with a pacier guy next to him. Is this part of Coleys plans to play a 0-0-10 formation?

I have now thought about this and I'm with you, I don't want him back as a forward or a clogger at the back, Wrexham reject.;)

Pendle Red 21-07-2007 06:57

Re: would you resign evil

Time to climb down off the fence!! After following this thread over the last few weeks I think the bottom line is as Lee is available on a free I would sign him on a one year contract and see how he goes, he is a proven goalscorer at this level and gives us another dimension up front. could even perhaps offer a six month contract but then run the risk of losing hm in January if he proves himself. But like Bagpuss I am becoming increasingly worried about the lack of defensive cover I think that needs addressing asap.:)
