decorating the Crown

I've launched a thread on teh OSC site as well as here asking people if they have any old shirts they would like to donate for the ceiling of the Crown. I haven't asked yet if the club or Hazel would like them as I would like an indication of how many we can get. I would like one of each for as far back as possible.

So far we have my 1993 centenary year Gibsons shirt (sky blue)
AccyMads Russell Payne signed pro star shirt (red?)

any further offers?

We can put a note of ownership inside each one so if they ever get taken down they can be returned to the original owner.

I'd love to see a home and away shirt for the past 15 years, can it be done?

Got two kids ones if you want them
Got white Nike Away one with black collar & sleeves (no sponsor)
Got Red Nike Home one with white sleeves & collar (no sponsor)
Both my lads would be well chuffed if these went up even more so if they had a little board somewhere in the pub saying who had donated them (names)
Also got an Adults Nike Navy Away one with Hynburn Borough Council on as well:)

thanks Pendle Red, will add to the list, we'll sort out a proper list when we have enough.

Keep em coming folks

Don't know if this is much use, Macca, but I've got Phil Edwards' shirt for the 2005-06 season signed by most of the squad, which I'd be happy to let you have.

Re: decorating the Crown

I have a good few shirts (about 5-ish) you can have if this venture goes ahead. The oldest one has Scott Alty as the sponsor (it belonged to Dave Lukevitch). There's also a white away shirt with..... Simon Jersey as the sponsor.

thanks Wynonie and TM, the names are on the list now

TM wasn't it Mike Lutkevitch? little baldy number 9?

Re: decorating the Crown

Macca I have a old red shirt sponsored by Hollands Pies as seen on the supporters around the world website, plus the dark blue Hyndburn BC sponsored shirt, any good, just let me know.

Re: decorating the Crown

Dave Lutkevitch (Defender)played for stanley from 1988/89 to 1989/90
Mike Lutkevitch (Forward) played from 1992/93 to 1994/95

DDevil is correct. Dave was Mike's brother and played at right-back (mainly) during the late 80s.

Re: decorating the Crown

I vaguely (very) remember a Dave but thought Mike was the more obvious one.

Thanks everyone so far, spoke to Hazel tonight and subject to approval from the big man she loves the idea. Lets try to get 10 more and we have the beginnings of a display. She'd like to see it start on the pool room ceiling and work outwards from there.

Anybody with signed shirts, hang on to them for the time being and lets get one not signed first, just for keepsakes sake. If we don't get them then we'll pull em in. Have we any kind of expert on the history of the shirts who could collate some sort of list of gots and not gots?

Sparkie has offered the red version of the Gibsons centenary shirt as well

Re: decorating the Crown

I've also got Jamo's bright orange prostar shirt from when we won the unibond, and a pair of keepers gloves from our first conference season signed by both Jamo and JK. Also have a JK signed grey keepers shirt from that season too.

Now all I have to do is find them!!!

Re: decorating the Crown

I think the shirts and scarfes etc should be kept round the pool table section.....Maybe some nice framed shirts round the front/side along with some good big pictures.

Dont think we can put loads and loads up it'll start to look a bit tacky....the shirts will look better round the back near the pool table. :)

Re: decorating the Crown

nice one Jimbo,

Jimbo decorates the Crown all by himself!!!

Smiffy, the shirts should go along the ceiling out of reach of grubby, souvenir hunting liberators! Very slightly billowed and covering the pool room onwards until we run out of shirts. Tacky or not, its about creating a timeline of Stanley history for people to point at and reminisce about such and such a player who wore such and such a shirt.

When we have enough shirts collected in we'll get some steps out and see how they look in a variety of ways eh? I'll staple - you pull pints?

most people can reach the pool room roof though especially with the pool cues

does it have to be stanley shirts though ? although I live down here, go and watch stanley as often as possible I still go watch my other team:cool:...of which I have plenty of old tops and scarves from years gone by ...dont worry its not rovers or burnley...:D:D:D

maccawozzagod 19-07-2007 20:28

Re: decorating the Crown

I think the shirts need to be Stanley as it is a Stanley memorabilia pub, but it can look good with other stuff as proved with the old collection of scarves.

And we have one scarf to start the collection donated by our new Scottish friends.

haven't a shirt thats not already mentioned - but did acquire the signed interview backdrop from our first conference season, if of any use ?
On a separate note, I wonder if the licence would permit a name change to the historic 'Stanley Arms'.

I agree. How about scarves from other teams supporters who also follow Stanley on a regular basis. I'm sure that a fair few who attend the FES fit into this category, of which I am one.

KIPAX 19-07-2007 22:36

Re: decorating the Crown

Shirts and memorobilia should be stanley.. scarves and especially pennants should/could be opposition we have played... any other teams would IMHO be a bit pointless.

Smiffy16 20-07-2007 09:46

Re: decorating the Crown

But i think it has to be kept to certain section, the shirts i mean. Pictures yes, all over.....but we've got to remember its not just a pub for a Stanley fan. The Crown has lots and lots of local regulars and people who come in at nights, it cant be tacky, or over the top, because people like to drink in a nice looking pub.

I'm all in favour for the shirts on the roof/walls....top idea but we've got to be careful that it isn't too much as I know it will put customers off....

I think thats fair enough..scarves from stanley fans like me who moved here from another part of the country and now follow stanley as well as their first love footy team..so as soon as the word is given will wander down and hand my scarf in - I will even donate £25 to charity of the pubs choice if they put it up in a decent place !

and I have to say that having other footy tops in the pub other than stanley isnt totally pointless - it would show that the pub/stanley fans welcome all football fans regardless of which team they may support...its also a good talking point in a pub trying to guess which top is from which team..

I think you could start now buddy. Ask for Hazel or Smiffy and they'll put it in the right place. I'm not sure whether they are going to put things up as they get them or wait until a few things arrive.

there might be a bottle on the bar by monday full of copper for the Childrens Christmas do that the OSC organise. At the moment it is on the bar at the clubhouse but not much traffic through there these days ....

fair comment I think in a pub other than ours. It is a Stanley pub and as such needs to be kept predominantly Stanley There aren't many shirts to go at in reality with just Stanley shirts. They've only been commercially available for around 20 years at tops. We'd soon be outnumbered with other tops and it would take away the effect of creating the Stanley timeline.

If anybody else wants to start handing in their shirts you could do so either at the Crown or preferably through me. Either way make sure you have your contact details stuck to the inside of it. The only reason I would say to hand it in through me is so that the OSC can lend it to the pub. That way ownership is retained and nobody can claim it as theirs other than the OSC. Everybody would know where to get their shirts back from in the eventuality that it is necessary.
