When Accy come to Shrews in September.
Hi guys. You come to us on September 15th. We are at our new ground now. Parking for cars is very poor. The ground is on the edge of town. If you can, I would urge you to come by coach, as it's much less hassle. Buses also have priority when leaving the car park. Because it's a new ground, government legislation means we can only have one car parking space for every fifteen supporters, so as it's 10,000 capacity, there are 680 spaces, (even though there is room for more), and is by permit only. People have been parking at a local retail park, but I've heard there is a new two hour rule coming in, and local streets have "no match day parking - residents only", signs. Also, the stadium is very poorly sign-posted. There have been titanic battles between the club and the local Council, with the club breaking off all ties with them. I hope I haven't put you off coming to the game! I just wanted to warn you of the perils, so you can avoid the hassle. If you go to the official Shrews website, it has details of the park and ride, should you want to use that. It's £2.00 per person. Best regards, John.

I'm working on answers to your questions, I'll post them on this thread.

Re: When Accy come to Shrews in September.
Right! Now as I don't live in Shrewsbury, I've had to ask. When you come out of the railway station, the bus station is a couple of minutes walk. (I knew that bit). When you exit from the railway, you will see some traffic lights. Just go straight over the lights, and it leads you to the bus station. No-one has come back with a number, but you need the sutton farm bus. Get off at The Charles Darwin pub. Very friendly locals, will show you the way to the ground. As I understand it, if you come by car, you can park in the C.D. pub car park, as long as you buy a drink. They give you a raffle ticket to put in your car, to prove you've bought one. Bradford fans were also drinking in The Brooklands Hotel, in Mill Road, with no trouble. Our Chairman owns it.
You can get a drink at the ground, but it comes in a plastic bottle. 500ml Carling is £2.90. Smaller bottles are £2.50. Local catering firm Jenny's, are the caterers, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Pasties, £2.00, pies are, I believe 2.50. If I get anything else, I'll put it here. John. |
Re: When Accy come to Shrews in September.
I've heard that it's a £3.00 fare by bus. If there's a group of you, you'll probably be better off getting a cab to the Brooklands. You can see the ground from there, but you have a traffic island to negotiate. We don't have a supporters bar, I'm afraid. More good planning, eh?

Buses. The bus runs from opposite the Albert at the main bus station every 15 minutes, and is £3.00 return and takes 7/8 minutes. The service is run by Tanat Valley. There are several pubs in the railway station area, if you prefer to drink in town. I also have the number of the Charles Darwin pub if you want to check out the facts on parking, but I won't put it on the thread, but PM me if you want it.
