Re: vs Lincoln
One goal in 3 games and it doesn't look like it's going to get any brighter, with Boco away for the next 2 weeks on international duty.
I don't see where on earth the goals are going to come from. Mullin isn't in form, McEvilly never will be, D'Sane won't play and Brown is in midfield these days if he ever plays. It doesn't stop there! We still have no more defenders. Edwards has a howler first game he plays, Rocky's had two already and Branch is ill. Refind the magic Coley, quick. |
Re: vs Lincoln
Quote:
At least Boco is not absent injured like he was last season. Why shouldn't Lee regain his later Wrexham form? Let's encourage him and stop knocking him. Phil had a bad day at the office but he was up against one of the trickiest players in the division. Keep the faith and Stanley will finish at least mid table. The Lincolnshire sports journos couldn't see much wrong with us. From what I heard we were pretty bad there last season. |
Re: vs Lincoln
Trying to be positive......
Let's face it, we're a bottom half team/club. I know people were being very positive before the new season, but in reality we're always going to struggle. Being really honest, we're a bottom quarter club/team. That being the case, having 3 points from games away at Lincoln and Wycombe, and home to Darlington, should be seen as a good thing. In reality I expected us to lose all 3 games, so the 3 points we have now are a bonus. If we're still not scoring/winning when we play other bottom half teams/clubs, then I'll start to worry. I still think we are in for a long, hard season. |

Re: vs Lincoln
Can't believe we played McEvilly again today, he couldn't even make an impression in the reserves on Wednesday and yet he gets the nod to start and is left on for the full 90 minutes while the three hardest workers in the team are brought off, leaving an injured Miles on the pitch! Coley can be so bloody stubborn, it seemed today he'd rather us lose than admit he's wrong. Let's have a forum in the Crown tomorrow, I'm sure a few of us could think of questions to ask now!

Re: vs Lincoln
As I couldn't get to Lincoln, I had decided to watch the scores coming up in some pub in Manchester as usual. But then I read the blurb on t'fishy site "...if you can't make it to Lincoln on Saturday afternoon, why not come and join us in the Crown, with instant goal flashes from the match to the bar staff...". Mental images of a pub packed with eager Reds fans listening with keen attention while the bar staff breathlessly relayed events from Sincil Bank as they happened sprang into my mind and I decided on impulse to jump on an X41 and make my way up there.
...as I walked into the pub at 2.55 I noticed that there were precisely three other people in the place and they didn't look like Stanley fans. Never mind, maybe it would fill up with latecomers soon. Half an hour later the other three customers left and I had the place to myself. The barmaid, an extremely pleasant young lady, didn't look like she was receiving goal flashes from anywhere but fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately) I could follow the scores on the TV screens behind the bar. When I pointed out to her that we were 1-0 down her comment was "Who's that, then?..Liverpool?" (Possibly she thought that the "Stanley Til I Die" legend on my T-shirt referred to Stanley Park). Obviously, no chance of any goal flashes there, then. Things looked up in the second half when another real, live Stanley fan arrived to prop the bar up with me and we commiserated with each other in the deepening gloom. All in all though, a disappointing day in more ways than one. The only bright spell in the afternoon's events was noticing the netting up on the framework while I was waiting for the bus home. So, my question to local Stanley fans is...you've got your own pub...why don't you use it? |

Mr Harris I must just have missed you which is a shame because I'm sure we could have livened the place up with a debate about something. |
Re: vs Lincoln
Missed you by ten minutes, Bagpuss, that's a pity. Actually, if you'd been around, the discussion could have got even more interesting in the second half as the Stanley fan who came in was an acquaintance of Eric's. Never mind, maybe next time...

Re: vs Lincoln
Whilst I can sympathise with most things said on this topic, what everyone seems to be forgetting is, we are playing the supposedly 4 best teams in this league for the first four league matches. But by all accounts, what happened to the form we had when we played Leicester. That night we were unlucky, but things seem to have gone downhill since then. I too am of the opinion McEvilly should not be playing, give a chance to David Brown and let Lee stew in the reserves/on the bench. Or if Roscoe D'Sane is now fit, play him up front with David Brown coming through the middle to feed the forwards. Things can only get better. Lets face it, Coley is THE manager, he lives and dies by his decisions. Lets hope for better things next week against Peterborough.

Re: vs Lincoln
We entered the league last year with no experience of the way league 2 football was. Things are different now, things should be better - not the same.
I agree but let's take the positives - they are 2 points better at least. We shouldn't be giving him 90 minutes every game, sitting around waiting for him to get back to some mystical form that appeared in a few matches last season. As Karen on 2BR said yesterday, he should be playing in the reserves to get his fitness back, not playing in important first team matches. Again I agree when I say let him regain his form his fitness has a lot to do with it and may be that should be in the reserves. Meantime give Brown and D'sane their chances. Let's not destroy the lad's morale by constantly knocking him. It's not down to us though, it's down to the management to make changes when things don't work, instead of hoping they'll get right in the end. I am not saying it is. Keep the faith in the management who got us where we are today. Its only a couple of weeks since some of our number were worrying that there were scouts at the Leicester game noticing how good our players were. |
Re: vs Lincoln
I was there.
went via the leeds festival with 2 mates who are 'half interested' liverpool fans. i thought vs darlington - we where alittle unlucky and lacked penetration and a quality ball against a well organised team. on saturday - we where terrible IMO. A quick run down Arthur - did ok. one good save, havent seen the gaol re-plays to judge him. Edwards - looked short of match practise. had a cracking link up run with miles in the second half, but struggled in the first against a very impressive Lincoln winger. Rocky - i though he was poor all round. Big gap in quality and effectivness between him and Lincoln's centre half Moses. Roberts - lotss of last ditch tackles, but lost to many headers in the first half. Got bettwer as the game wnet on IMO. Richardson - was poor. Caught ball watching, very poor crossing - out of position and showed it. Harris - i thought he was well below his usual standard to be honest. poor passing, second to the ball - no link up play. He had the one chance - but never looked confidewnt in taking it. Proctor - The guy was crap - and a big reason for the defeat. always second to the ball - couldnt pick up the runner or protect the back two. Lack of creativity which surprised me. Miles - worst player, absolulty useless (again im sorry to say). He is simply not a winger. He is a striker and it clearly shows. V.poor fitness rate, showed no passionn - head went straight down - no work rate. cant corss, only remember him 2wice dribbling at defenders. He was very poor. Boco - looked the only quality in the midfield. Lively, they had 2 men marking him at times in the first half. Made runs, creative, tracked back and supported his full back - oneo f the few players who can hold their heads up. Why was he subbed? Mulljs - probably won only 60% of headers, didnt stop trying, tryed to link up play - he found it hard with no midfield support. Why was he subbed? McEvilly - evil was poor. I actually think he did better than he did vs Darlo - but was still off the pace. I was suprised he stayed on the pitch - it was easy work for the Lincoln defenders to play against him. I thought a few of the ultras where out of order for shouting 'f**k off back to wrexham'. Its not his fault he is getting picked - and he did put in alot more effort than Miles. Brown - out of position and it showed. Alittle more inventive - but didnt turn the game. McGrail - poor. physically not ready yet and he didnt look that fast. I dont understand this one? Whalley -better than most. Inventive and generally positive. Good ball control. Coleman - tactically clueless today. He came up against a better team, but didnt change his team or tactics to frustrate or stop them. And after going 11 and 2 goals behind - still didnt change his tactics - and made IMO some poor substitutions. V.gutted. As we showed vs Wycombe we have real potentail (especially J.Harris). Coleman was poor tactically, and his team selection was poor. Miles is not the answer as a winger, and the defnece is simply not good enouh or imposing enough. Long hard season ahead. |

Re: vs Lincoln
Wasn't at the Lincoln game but followed it on Radio Lancashire. From what was said on the radio, it must have been pretty grim viewing from a Stanley perspective. According to the reporter, only two efforts on goal worth mentioning, both from Boco.
The commentary of Lincoln's second goal just about summed it up when he said that the Stanley defence had "fallen asleep". Coley sounded deflated in his post match interview and promised that the squad would work harder in training to sort out the defensive problems and even went as far to say "that if certain individuals weren't up to the job he'd be looking to bring in players who were." I respect that everyone is entitled to voice their opinions, but I feel it can only be counter productive by slating certain players. If the players can sense this "negativity" their heads may drop and the situation worsen.Wouldn't it be more beneficial to get behind the lads?? One thing is for sure- we need defensive cover by bringing in TWO experienced defenders. With the deadline looming large on Friday it's going to be an interesting week. If we don't sort out our defensive problems I fear it is going to be another long hard season.:( |
Re: vs Lincoln
I genuinly though Miles is not upto it as a winger, but more worrying his head went down and he seemed to give up and not want the ball.
I also though proctor and Harris where up against 2 midfielders who had done their homework and had better vision and movement. as i said, i thought evil had improved since the darlo game but still was short. I love coleman, and think he is the right man for the job - but he is still leaning at this level. Its just a shame to go from a tactically mastermind against Wycombe, with a well organised and marshalled team - to a 1 tactic disasted against Lincoln. Lets hope for an improvement next saturday and a chance to see Carden and D'sane. As for the Ultras shouting it - the reason I thought it was out of order, was because there where other players on the park showing less commitment and less invention. McEvilly IMO had a decent go - his pace and fitness was lacking, but he had no support from the midfield - but did link up well at times with Mullins. |
Re: vs Lincoln

As for Carden, I was with a seasoned Chester supporter when he signed for us, and he said, "good player, but you'll be lucky to get 60 mins from him ". I've still not seen him. :( |
